  • RTÉ News announces the death of one of Ireland's best-known and most successful businessmen, Tony O'Reilly. From Glasnevin in Dublin, O'Reilly first achieved fame as a rugby international, earning 29 caps for his country between 1955 and 1970 and taking part in two tours with the British and Irish Lions, as well as setting a try-scoring record with the Lions that still stands to this day. As a businessman, O'Reilly was best known for establishing the hugely popular Kerrygold butter brand, for his involvement in the Independent News and Media Group, which he led from 1973 to 2009, and for his time as CEO and chairman of Heinz. He was also, for many years, the leading shareholder of Waterford Wedgewood.
