So many died for Ireland, so it would be free and the hunger strikers, among them. I don't know what you all think, but to me the hunger strikers were murdered by the brits and old maggie just as much as if she used a gun and shot each one. One word from the old bag was all it would have taken and 10 lives could have been saved, but she chose to not do the right thing, so their blood is on her hands.

The Troubles still is living in me even if i am from sweden and the period in my life when i spent time in Eire was in the last part of the sixties. The catholic family i spent time with did not like to talk about what was happening in Northern Ireland. There were a discussion about the background to the violence in Derry. Some means it was of religious backgrund, other meant it was political wih great britain involved. And others meant it was a political fight ot class origin where the catholics had no support from the republic of Eire while the protestants where supported from London and Great Britain. Today it is a lid on the kettel and in my mind its a boiling conflict in the minds of them who were a part in the period thats called the troubles. You will find the same boiling kettel in different parts of the world today

"The Irish Republican movement has always been left wing, as it is an anti-imperialist nationalist movement IRA or Irish Republican parties have been outright Marxist.
The Provisional IRA (PIRA or 'the Provos') were the largest and most influential Republican military. They held socialist ideals, and their political wing Sinn Fein has ranged from democratic socialist to social democrat, but nationalism was always the focus of their campaign. Definitely the more "centrist" within the movement. They disarmed in accordance to the Good Friday Agreement."
Official IRA (OIRA) was the militant branch of Official Sinn Fein, also called Sinn Fein - The Worker's Party or in modern Ireland just the Worker's Party. They were the solidly Marxist faction of the Republicans and are often seen as the second most prominent behind the Provos. The Worker's Party today continues to campaign on a basis of socialism and anti-austerity, based on radical socialist republicanism.
The Irish National Liberation Army (INLA) was another player in the Republican stage. A splinter from the OIRA on account of opposing a ceasefire in 1972, the INLA was more focused on insurrectionist actions than electoral politics and committed a series of bombings and assassinations including a successful assassination of Margret Thatcher's close associate and cabinet member Airey Neave. They're still active today. Their political wing, the Irish Republican Socialist Party, has run in a few elections but hasn't since 2011.
Finally is the Continuity IRA (CIRA), a Provo splinter who rejects the peace process and continues to wage guerrilla war against British forces in the north of Ireland. Their political wing Republican Sinn Fein is more radical than regular Sinn Fein but doesn't appear to be avowedly Marxist, similar to its predecessor.
Overall most IRA groups or splinters do hold to some form of left wing ideals, mostly in an anti-imperialist sense and sometimes in a directly Marxist sense. Many position themselves in the lineage of the Easter Rising of 1916, which was lead by the Irish Citizen's Army and its leader James Connolly. Connolly was a Marxist and a Syndicalist, so many of these influences can be seen in the ideals of all Irish Republicans.

The more I see out of the 6 counties, the more I see Macha’s curse on Ulster.
She’s said to have made the curse in about 500AD, and said it would last for 81 generations. Depending on how you reckon a generation (either the life span of person, or the space between the birth of parent and child) that curse will last 1620-5700 years.
500+1620 = 2120. Which means we have almost another century before the earliest point at which the Ulsters will be free of the curse. Will be interesting for those of us alive then to see if that’s when 26+6 =1 happens.
