  • In this episode disaster strikes again and leaves us stranded for 4 hours 100 Klm's out of Alice Springs. We then camp on the Finke River offgrid in the amazing West MacDonnell Ranges. There is plenty to do here. We explore Ormiston Gorge, Redbank Gorge, Glen Helen Gorge and the Ochre Pits. What an amazing place to be as we continue our Tour of Australia.

I am so pleased I traveled through all these places in the mid 80's before they became part of the outback tourist trail. Palm valley was filled with palm trees and other sub tropical type flora. Caught and released fish in the Finke river at palm valley. Spent a couple of days there with seeing another soul. I think I proffered the Aussie outback when it was wilderness. There is no way you would have been able to tow caravans back then. It breaks my heart to see all these areas now. I don't think I will watch anymore of these outback videos, I prefer to keep my memories when it truly was the outback. :)

Tourist /campers will always be around like you were one yourself. Times change so there are a lot more now. Finke River is a paid campground run by the National Park. It’s just a shame when these places are mistreated. However it was well kept when we were there.

@@lappnitup Oh yes, I was definitely one. :) There were no camp grounds, no defined trails, we had to carry everything we needed especially water, extra fuel spare tubes, 4 spare tyres, winch, and all sorts of recovery gear. I saw the odd caravan abandoned along what was once call the 'camel track' around the Gulf of Carpentaria, all the rivets vibrated out of the external cladding, all internal fittings vibrated into bits and pieces. I was taught from a very young age that the only thing you left in the bush were foot prints. Burying all fire pits and carrying all other rubbish with you. When I first traveled in Arnhem land, Kakadu was still very remote and you needed to notify police of your travel plans. Now days Kakadu is called Kakadon't. The courtesy of calling into a station homestead, or contacting the station by radio was all that was required for permission to camp. The maps we used were military style, no mobile phone service or GPS locators. Port Douglas to Bamaga on Cape York took many days. I really hope you enjoy all your outback adventures. Thanks for sharing.

Oh Mickey, you were so fine hey Mickey hey Mickey. Sorry about that damn expensive that blowout that hopefully the BFG's will be better in BFN! At least there are plenty of good people out there that will do anything to help the stranded. Love to Fink River drone footage just stunning. Thanks again Brenton.

Hi Guys, fantastic episode once again, oh and extremely timely as well.
Just planning our next lap, across the Nully and up through the Flinders and McDonald ranges. So now we’re convinced to go West McDonalds on this trip.
Hoping to do some of it with my Son and his family this time so should be a lot of fun.
Keep up the great editing Fiona and just keep the camera rolling Tony.
All the best Kim and Carol

Great vid guys. Vet in a Van had Mickey Thompsons and the same thing happened to them when they were up at the Dampier peninsula. Did 2 tyres in as many days

Oh really? We were told by Tyrepower that because we’d been on the Gibb River Road with lowered pressures that we’d weakened the walls. Funny that 1000’s of people do the same road with no problems later on with their tyres!! Even the front tyres had cracks on the inside seam when we replaced them so they would have blown at some stage too !! Scary stuff. A lot of money for 6 months usage 🙄

Vet in a Van hadn’t done the gibb. They had done corrugations but they put the spare on and I don’t think they really went anywhere once the tyre was changed. I will have to rewatch. We have done a lot of corrugations with our pressures up and down and not had a problem with our tyres they are the original A/T that came with the cruiser.

And that’s how they should be! All Terrain doesn’t mean some terrain!
I’ll have to find that episode too of Vet in a van. We’ve had Mickey T’s for quite a few years (different sets). We also had a blowout without the van on about 4 years ago. The walls just seem to let go. We had not been on the gibb then either!!
