    I run 30 psi on delphi coils 760 whp with 1625cc meth , a client of mine runs 33 on nitrous makes 850 whp with 2kcc meth, stock style coils,zero issues. I find that with the right gap and fueling(enough octane and hpfp not crashing), ure good. If you have an injector seal leak it'll misfire too. The coil choices are interesting, just can't justify them unless I'm fixing an issue...

    Hey Andrew, I remember when I upgraded my coils on my n54 at the time. I think they where benchmark coils, I bought them with the connectors and about 10cm of wire. I used crimp connectors similar to the crimps telephone company’s use with gel inside. Fitted them into the factory plastic connection/ wiring cover the original wiring goes into.

    you dont want to be soldering wires in a application like that. you might find that the terminals for the b58 coils come in a different gauge wire size.

  • @br4d101
    @br4d101 Před 3 lety

    I run PR coils on mine and are faultless to be honest, vehicular diy on here made a diy for the Audi R8 coils, he made all the harness himself n didn’t look to bad!
    The one issues with the PR coils is all the extra wiring and making it all tidy again, I like everything to look neat n clean on my car so took me ages routing everything so it fit perfect! You could just get some different gauge pins for the connectors so they crimp on the wire correctly, are you sure your crimping them on correctly, as should be crimped to the outer covering as-well as the wire, takes a little practice to get them right n solidly onto the wire so they don’t fly off, I redone all my Landrover defender wiring n trying to get them on properly is a chore haha

    Interested in the brake bleed. I see that with the F30 you can do the entire bleed using INPA alone cycling the ABS pump, no special pressure bleeder. Can the same be done with the E90?

    What tool are you using to crimp them? Could you get the same terminals for thicker wire?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 3 lety +1

      Its a semi expensive crimp tool. But you are on to something. The terminals are made for thinner wire. So maybe if there was something made thicker wire with the same end to go in the connector we would be on to a winner.

    Just read up on the b58 coil conversion on E90Post. I don’t see a problem with crimping and soldering to make it work. It did for the guy who’s making retrofit kits (of which I assume is who you possibly got yours from?).

    a bit off-topic here , but I noticed you got rid of the 666m replica wheels, thanks to you I've been obsessing over getting them :).what size were they, and any reason why u ditched them?

      @ZeroTo60Tube  Před 3 lety

      I picked up a set of genuine 437m. The 666ms have gone to a mate of mine, actually had his car in today. They are 19x9 and 19x8. From memory they were atcually offset for a F30 but say really nice on the e92.

  • @mallea666
    @mallea666 Před 3 lety

    I don’t think the conductivity of the wiring will get altered if you solder the connector. I’ve soldered the Delphi connector to run the precision coils with no issues related to the soldering job. The crimp connectors you got have a standard, I haven’t had the chance to check a b58 coil but surely you can find the same connector to crimp on a thicker gauge wire, seems like the n54 is 18/20awg I have a precision ignition kit and I refuse to use an adapter wire for the same reasons you mentioned. Also have you wondered what’s the function of that 0.5 farad capacitor right on the middle of the ignition wiring?? Well this electronic components are sensitive to the heat and they fail overtime, capacitors are basically a battery. I’m going to test a few that i have around to compare their values but I’m positive this will have an impact on the constant cyl6 misfire that i get at high rpm. Keep us updated your approach on this matter is very informative

      @@ZeroTo60Tube You’re welcome, I’ve been passionate about the n54 since i got my e92 5 years ago, so much that I started working on bimmers full time 3 years ago. I really like your channel I think your approach and description of the work you put into the cars is more technical than any other youtuber, and you do it with the intention of helping the platform instead of selling your channel. Let’s keep in touch and try to figure out this ignition out mate 🤙

    Why though when S55 guys are making north of 1200WHP on stock pencil coils? IIRC the 1000WHP N54 Billiam owns is on stock style coils as well.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube

      Maybe they would be making more with better coils. Leaving the BMW platform for a second you realise the stock pencil coils are no good. These instantly made my cold starts better, that alone makes them worth it.

    Where I live (and from what I gather most of eastern Europe) Eldors are freaking expensive, i.e. $100~$120 a piece! NGKs with the same part # are 1/4 of the price and B58 coils are 1/2 the price of the Eldors... So a kit for B58 coils is a viable solution around here.

    • @TML34
      @TML34 Před 3 lety

      I run NGK coils with hybrid turbos at 20 psi, they’re fine. It’s way more important to make sure you’ve got the right plugs and gaps set.

  • @Nico_335i_DCT
    @Nico_335i_DCT Před 3 lety

    That's a bummer. But I don't see a problem soldering the wires. Solder, with a minimum of lead, has a melting point above 300 degrees Celcius. So what can go wrong? Dutch regards, Nico.

  • @tighematthew

    Benchmark coils apparently good for 800whp. Got some one the way

  • @jasonscicluna4016
    @jasonscicluna4016 Před 3 lety

    One option you have is to cut the standard loom in a spot where the all the wires are in one spot and install a Deutsch DT connector, then you can change the wire on the other side to the right size for the B58 plugs.
    You might need some Mil spec wire as well depending on the current draw from the coils
    Not exactly plug and play though if your planning to try to get to a point where you can sell kits.

    First, don't apologise for a lack of videos, you guys have a life as well. Secondly, well two part. Andrew, you're better than me with electronics, but straight away my brain says not to pull strands of wires out of the harness to make the crimp fit, and don't make an adaptor that drops from a bigger wire to a smaller one. The resistance change and heat load could be a problem (unless you're talking low voltages and signal wires). And (for the second part), I wouldn't solder any connection in an engine bay. The heat, along with vibration, may eventually lead to the soldering cracking, and an intermittent electrical fault that is an absolute nightmare to track down. The latest research is completely recommending crimp connections when they are done right.
