All these comments complaining about certain models not being included is getting tiresome. Maybe some of them weren't available or just weren't interested, alot of them aren't interested in being front and centre anymore. At the end of the day, these 4 are the ones who decided to do this, and thank God they did. This documentary, for those who actually sat down to watch it, is made with so much love and honour to the ones who've passed (Azzedine, Gianni, Tatjana..). The most emotional moment was Linda talking about her health issues, depression and triumphant return to the runway for Fendi.
This was about the original 5 that came about a few years ahead of the others.

So many uniformed comments. The Trinity + Cindy were the original supermodels from its official 1990 start. Look to the Vogue Italia cover of the Trinity on motorcycles, British Vogue cover with Tatjana, & George Michael music video. That's it. Claudia, Helena, etc. came later or weren't a part of the initial scene that would generate the Supermodel moniker. Kate Moss came during the later waif era (a la Shalom Harlow and Amber Valetta) which would then bring about heroin chic in the late 90s.
There are models, there are Supermodels and there is Linda.

Claudia is not part of this group and this group isn't only known for being casted in a George Michael video. Yes, Claudia and Kate Moss were huge, however, both did not receive the enormous media coverage that these 4 received.

I never said the other models were bigger than Claudia. However, the other girls were bigger in the USA when it came to media coverage and fans.. Just because Claudia booked major campaigns and magazine covers does not mean she was more popular in certain countries.

Gia was dead in 1986 the same year Cindy moved to NYC where she instantly landed the Vogue cover USS within the month and the best selling cover that year. She followed with two more Vogue USA covers that year; she also landed 50 covers for the year.
I wish Claudia Shiffer and Helena Christiansen were included. This was the era when modeling was an art form.

Its not about Claudia.. These 4 girls started in the mid 1980s and became friends before Claudia was on the scene getting attention..
Claudia was always a solo act, she rose to fame without being in this group, she is not part of the 'Trinity' and or 'I Don't Get Out of Bed For Less Than $10,000 A Day' group.
It was The Guess Jeans campaign that give Claudia the media attention and it was her contract with Chanel that made her a superstar in fashion. Her relationship with David Copperfield also kept her in the spotlight. When you think of Claudia, you don't really think of Linda, Cindy, Christy and Naomi. Not all 1990s models are tied together.. Truth be told, Claudia's Revlon campaigns and American Vogue covers were very lackluster and very forgettable.
However, her European work trumps everything she did in the USA. It seems the USA just domesticated her looks with the exception of Guess Jeans.
to me they were the symbol of the new generation of liberated woman. powerful, capable, and celebrated.

She wasn't. she never will be. She was still good, but definitely a step down. She wasn't included in the Freedom 90 video by George Michael. It was Linda Christy and Naomi at the top, then Tatijana, Claudia, Stephanie, Helena and Claudia came towards the end.

right. If you watch the documentary, all the girls talk about how the legendary photographers they worked with like Steven, Richard, Patrick, etc, helped mould them into the supermodels they became. They would instruct them like directors. Nowadays, these girls aren't trained in the same way. It was a craft back then because it was revered more.

The iconic British Vogue cover, photographed by Peter Lindbergh and the "FREEDOM" video by George Michael, launched these '5' to dizzying heights. Claudia then Kate came after this.

Kate was there and agreed, the big six and Schiffer happened to be the most famous and successful of them all in fashion and mainstream. Plus she lives in England so I don't know if she doesn't want to be part of anything or she is disliked by someone who makes sure to exclude her. While all the ladies are iconic and legendary IN fashion, the undisputed superstar of the bundle was and still is Claudia. After her Cindy and at a distance Naomi are known worldwide by name everyone including people who have no idea about fashion and heterosexual men, one of the main requirements of the traditional definition of a supermodel. Claudia is not apart of that group, the other woman who was apart of that group has passed away, Naomi is just as Iconic as Cindy and Claudia, and is not at a"distance" in being iconic, Cindy isn't as relevant as she once was in the 90's, and neither is Claudia...Naomi is still considered extremely Relevant in 2023 and is consistently booking major work.

As for Schiffer, not saying anything about the 90's and her is like not mentioning Brigitte Bardot when they talk about French sex symbols and Saint Tropez. Schiffer was the first on Time magazine, the first on Rolling Stone, the first to make multiple multimillion dollar contracts for mainstream and high fashion simultaneously, holds the record of most magazine covers until today and the list of firsts and accomplishments goes on. So again, I love Naomi, I love Claudia,, that is not the issue, the issue is leaving the leading 90's star out of the 90's show when she even happens to live in the country it was done is just ridiculous and obviously biased for whatever reason. The one I don't care for or agree with the supermodel status is Evangelista who I don't consider versatile, changing hair color and cut 575 while still making the same face with half open mouth in every picture is not being a chameleon in my opinion. Why was the biggest and most iconic '90s supermodel, Claudia Schiffer, not included in this? It's weird for them to do a documentary about 90s supermodels and exclude the woman who was for many years the top earning supermodel in the 90s. If I had to choose one supermodel from the 1990s that was the most iconic and truly defined that era, it would be Claudia Schiffer.
um... everyone who knows about 90s supermodels knows that the official Supermodels are the Trinity. the others are good too, but the Trinity is the pinnacle of Supermodels. They are fashion Royalty. The rest were secondary. Simple as that.
Schiffer wasn't a part of the Trinity, she wasn't in the George Michael Freedom video, nor was she in the two most iconic photos that became emblematic of the Supermodel era. Simple. It's Linda, Christy, Naomi, & Cindy followed by everyone else.
