My coach always says “every match starts standing up - takedowns are worth 2 points”

I used to until I saw a guy get his knee destroyed attempting to avoid a takedown. After that I'll either start down or just let the guy get the takedown. I'm doing this shit for fun. I don't want some lifelong injury.

Yeah but the point of starting from the feet is that you have to learn how to pull guard, you can't start down in a real match under most rules

I understand guard pulling sometimes. If the guy im rolling with is some big ass guy whose been rolling for 2 weeks i am sitting my ass down and not getting my knee blown out

Seeing as a real street-fight would start on the feet that would potentially be a good place to start … 🙄

Okay I'm reading the comments but isn't that a given. People actually start a sparring sitting down 😮🤔😂

In jiujitsu with no striking being on bottom isn't always bad. A lot of people who are really good on the bottom prefer it. I sit with people whp are either way bigger than me or new and don't know how to wrestle

@@pilot.wav_theory- Thats bullshit. There is Wrestling schools everywhere. In many BJJ schools they have Wrestlers teaching Wrestling classes.
