Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world. - Hudba
My dad was there. Drove from Italy with his friends to see them and I will never be thankful enough to him for introducing me to the greatest band ever, and the main reason why i play drums.
I was there too, I was a student in Munich at the time, took my big brother who worked in another state in Germany, he introduced me to them when I was 12. Still my all time favorite hardrock band. I still get excited thinking about it!
They sure were getting their crap back together in '79 and '80
What's especially sad is that they seem to be hitting another grove or stride in their performances. They were getting into another level and then sadly, soon after this, tragedy struck.

Led Zeppelin in the 80's! It's still hard to wrap my mind around that. 😒
They were still on fire in 1980! Awesome
Plant sound really GOOD in that tour.... his best singing since 1973 IMHO !
Have you not heard Robert's singing from 77? It beat his singing on the 73 tour since it didn't sound thin and strained. Better control as well.
@@joeyhuebner10 : depends on the shows... MDG was the last of that long 73' tour . Everyone was exhausted. Worst timing for filming a movie IMHO!
Nothing I love more than listening to the heaviest band ever playing rockabilly.
In an interview when asked about shows from the latter years that stood out ofr him as being particularly good page stated that he remembered Munich 1980 as being quite good .
I was there, front of stage right under Jimmy P.! -- amazing that this footage exists
All we got in late 1980 were a couple of stills of the band playing in Germany! What a treat to see this!
For four guys, they really had a complete sound
The Mighty Led Zeppelin = There will: Never be Another. True Rock Stars = Raw Talent. One Love from NYC.
I've gotta say, for 1980, page is playing brilliantly!
Seems like he was hiking his guitar up a little higher than the old days. Maybe wanted to play a little more accurately.
Yeah, he's really good here
plant singing so strong in here, specially stairway to heaven and bonham it's just fantastic!
They all looked and sounded great here! Jones looked very happy with his crowd wave and eye contact and smiles with Jimmy. Roberts vocals were powerful and Bonzo was thundering. Jimmy sounded pretty damn good for 1980!
Bonham was phoning it in. He and Plant didn't want to be there anymore. It was over after Knebworth the year before. Yes this show along with Dortmund, Cologne and Frankfurt are good shows but it lacks the true Zeppelin magic from earlier years.
@@dylanwatson1287 If JB wouldn't have died...they'd still be making music and selling out arenas and stadiums globally, they wouldn't of broken up, as Page himself said..."we'll keep going until one of us punts off".
@James Schaidt Pagey most certainly would've OD'd died in either on the fall American tour or the spring of 81. The man was absolutely addicted to herion at that time. Bonzo was smart enough to quit that shit before drinking himself to his death that fateful day and night in September since he was into herion himself for his increasing anxiety and depression away from his family.
@@jamesschaidt1096 The band was an off and on dumpster fire from 1975 to the very end of it in September 1980.
@dylanwatson1287 Your comments are trash. No one is phoning it in. Plant never said he didn't want to be there. It's clear that you're not understanding what you're seeing here at all - or you didn't watch the footage.
John Paul Jones said this tour reinvigorated the band and everyone was in good spirits. You're *projecting onto the band what your imagination is telling you to.
Bonzo does an insane fill in Kashmir - the third fill in and Robert backed up to *watch him do his Kashmir outro fills and that fill is so crazy *awesome - Robert laughs and turns to Jonesy to laugh with him. That's what they used to do in the studio back when Bonzo would do something crazy on the drums - they'd all look at each other and laugh.
This was a very spirited performance as were most of these these last show.
There's a famous quote from this tour from John Bonham in which he said: "Over all, we're dead chuffed with the way this tour has gone." That means extremely pleased. Have a seat in the back of the room.
I was at the concert. Wonderful memories.
jealousy at its finest:
A band on the mend, on the great come back...alas no one was able to see the tragedy that was soon to come....it was a way of life....Sadly it ended a great life...
It's both amazing and awesome to see footage like this...
Long live TMLZ!!!! A band like no other!!!
The 80s would have been kind of a fresh start for them... I think their playing is much better here than in the late 70s.
Yes !
So sad !!! That next album would have been a breath of fresh air for them, more guitar driven hard rock....Can you imagine Carasolambra treated up for a live presentation !! I think we really missed out !!
I was there. 5 people back from the stage. Insane! I ran into some friends who had seats. They said that it looked like there was a cloud over the entire GA crowd. This was definitely one of the most epic days of my life.
musiclover
Very cool !
All of my love at 1:33 woww woow this is gold ...
This version and the studio version where Plant is obviously missing and mourning the loss of his son by singing the lines of "I get a little bit lonely".He's All of my love." makes me sad and cry at the same time.
Those drum fills were getting insane towards the end of Kashmir, absolutely incredible. This is a fantastic show!
Wait, this is the last footage of all four original members playing together. Wow
Thank you Led Zeppelin for refilling my mind with you!!
♥️LZ🎥🎶🙏
Just 2 months before the world of Rock N' Roll, as we knew it, changed forever. I only hope through the power of our modern technology that we may soon conjure up many more great videos of Zeppelin on their final tour.
i know i commented already but they sound perfect.plants voice is so strong and thick.page sounds amazing.wish this was a better recording.jpj and bonzo sound locked in.if zep didn't end the 80s would have never arrived
Watching in 2020.
COOL. FOOTAGE ZEPPELIN FANS MAKE MY QUARANTINE SO MUCH BETTER❤
Looks like one of their best gigs.
Would've been awesome to see.
This show reminds me a lot of the ‘73 US tour, they’re really in form here and sound fantastic, thank you Zeppelin for existing and making my life what it is
TRAMPLED UNDER FOOT!
July 5th, 1980 - Led Zeppelin's 2nd from last ever live performance. Pay close attention to the insanely awesome fills that John Bonham does at the ending of Kashmir starting at 5:00 mark !!! Plant starts watching & was in such awe of the fills - he starts laughing & looking at John Paul Jones - like "did you see that?!"
Cool indeed !
JohnBindon I did the same
JohnBindon yea they are nice alright however the last fill he does comes in way out of time.
And to think his brain was probably fried/pickled at this point! Proof of that is in what Plant said about his last day alive! They rode together to that last rehearsal and Bonzo wasn't happy and told Plant he was quitting because he wasn't a good enough drummer that there were many better than he was and that Plant could play drums and he would sing!!
Best Eva
@@OliverPatrickLoughnan Not correct at all - nice try though
2019: Just now seeing this.. so exciting 🔥🔥
Simon Kirke of Free and Bad Company playing drums to whole lotta love, in 2nd to last concert. Awesome 🤘
BadCo great band.
why am i hearing songs ive never HEARD BEFORE?!!! i thought i had everything...... WHAT THE HELL ... i need it all
ITS A SHAME THE WHOLE CONCERT ISN'T AVAILABLE PRO SHOT !
They sound great. Its like they were going to be better than ever.
PROBABLY ONE OF THE LAST CONCERTS THIS FOUR KINGS!!!
I cherish this footage
the best stairway to heaven since 1972 ! Robert in great vocal shape!
Best band of all time! Jimmy Page is unbelievable on guitar the best of all time! All together they are a force that no other band even comes close!
Watch Robert at the 5:11 mark step back to watch what John Bonham's going to come up with for his next drum fill ! Robert looks over and just smiles in amazement of what Bonzo comes up with-it was an amazing fill for sure. Then Robert turns & smiles at Jonsey - Bonzo was getting better & better even w drinking - he didn't screw up & still played with power and might !!! Long Live the memory of the hedonistic tribute to Rock and Roll that Led Zeppelin represents!
John Stephanski
TEARWAVES Drummer
With having Bonzo as your bands Drummer, How is it even possible to not get distracted while sharing a stage with him, I would be so hypnotized by Bonzos sound and performance that Id forget my role completely
5:11
6:06 what a great way to sing the last verse of stairway.
Of all the 1980s bootlegs I've heard, this concert is the most solid. Page plays very well and Plant has awesome voice. JPJ and Bonzo superb, as always.
Nice to hear 'Hot Dog' live. I'm like one of only about 10 people on earth that loves that song.
Well, now there’s at least 15.
Loved that one from the minute I heard it
Include me, too! :)
Love that song too
Guess I'm part of that 10
I was on a high school Europe trip this summer, we saw tour posters all over, but were never in the right city on the right night to catch a show (yeah right, we would have actually scored tickets...not). We came closest in Munich, so it's fun to see this 30 years later. Thanks for posting.
That 🎸 solo in Trampled Under Foot was wicked!!!
Kenneth Warren - My fave Led Zep song🔥 So underrated!!
I think Pagey calmed down on the smack and wanted to put on a good performance in Munich for two reasons. 1. Munich was the city they recorded Presence. 2. Their friend from Bad Company Simon Kirke was in town to jam with Bonzo and them in Whole lotta love.
That guitar solo is my favorite part of the whole Munich show...I have to rewind it repeatedly whenever I listen to this boot! 😂👍
It's crazy that there's NO official video or audio recordings from this tour.
+Ffej Uadlos Not really. As a tour it was a minor footnote to the North American that was planned that year. This was just get their feet wet as they hadn't toured since 77 and get going again before the larger tour.
Still a tragedy.
It was a warm-up tour for the US tour.
The tragedy is that Jimmy Page's sounddesk recordings from the tour were stolen and bootlegged.
+Ffej Uadlos I thought I said that RE: 1980 Europe? They weren't documenting this full stop because it was just a short warm up jaunt. In regards to the stolen soundboards. The theft was that, a theft and a violation of Jimmy's home and archives. The civilized person in me finds that appalling. The selfish fan in me has enjoyed those soundboards, but I've never paid for any of them keeping the people who did it without any of my money.
+Ffej Uadlos Oh there will be. Jimmy Page recorded everything Zeppelin did.
Nigel Fortune And the 1980 tour recordings were stolen from Jimmy.
My Favourite era of Led Zeppelin 1979/80 and what could have been ,prefer them in that period than the main period of their career
Karen Warwick- There's something special about these performances. You could even hear it on the ITTOD outtakes, like Darlene and Wearing and Tearing. The rawness...
Wow ! What a gem !
This is why the internet is freakin' awesome.
i would have loved to hear there next album
This is, hands down, the latest and greatest of the live stuff availiable. I would love to see it enhanced and released for more folks to enjoy.
if that awfully singing guy during _Black Dog_ would eventually shut the F up...
one of the best ever performances by Jimmy Page! he did one of the best achilles last stand i ever heard!
Wow what a show! The energy is nuclear!
Love this! And the soundboard recordings of the 1980 Tour. Long LIVE ZEP!!!
The is the most complete and unedited clip of Munich that I have seen so far. You got to live the dueling drums at the end. Jimmy was on the money this evening as was Robert too~
Rob/Boston
I was at this show. My sister, brother and I all scalped tickets as we were traveling and just drove over to see if we could get it. Saw them in Frankfurt just days before this show. Who else can say they saw Zeppelin twice in one week?
Were they amazing to see live in 1980? I'm a particularly big fan of Zeppelin's live shows in 1980.
This is absolutely priceless footage of what seems like a great show! So refreshing that it's not a damn soundboard recording, which is the worst way to hear Zep. Wish there was hours of footage like this...
Richard Burton technically there are. Zeppelin have released 52 videos of rare footage. They’ve got a playlist of it on their channel so I recommend you check it out if you haven’t already
Were truly on this eve!!😁😎📻
It’s amazing that this exists thank u to the person for recording it
so great all of my love stuff
I had bought tickets for this tour on their only Canadian date of Montreal (I was in Toronto at the time). The bus was part of the ticket price also. Then (as we all know) tragedy hit, and the tour was cancelled. I will forever regret never seeing Zep live (along with Pink Floyd, but that's another story). They will always be the greatest combination of four musical geniuses to ever grace a rock stage!
Damn, I cant imagine having tix to see zep just to have john pass
Believe me, I understand. I was planning to go to the bufello show. Was absolutely devistated and still am 41 year's later. My condolences to his Family, Robert, Jimmy, John Paul and all who knew him. Greatest drummer of all time and one of four members of the greatest band of all time. Great video! Mind blowing drum rolls that separates him from the pack.
we love you LED ZEPPELIN......FOR EVER AND EVER...AND EVER ¡¡¡
GRETTINGS FROM PERU ¡¡¡
Great band!!! Sadly Bonham left us in this year .. what a band!!!
1978 50 years no reunion thanks a lot Robert all your fans appreciate it 👎
what a powerful and dirty distorted one. Love that record! I hope Pagey digs this one out one day and offers it as official release.
We all hope - but he is so obviously high here, I think he is ashamed of himself. But he is still playing better than today's sober stars 🔥
Thank God for cameras and bootlegs
I Need This Full Show!
I love John Paul Jones' wave during Stairway To Heaven lol.
Yup, it's a - I'm going this way, follow me boys!
@@zoso1980 nah!
_'hey roadie, where is mah beer! sitting here on dry soil, hurry up mate!'_
NO ONE can or ever will be able to sing "LZ" like Robert Anthony Plant.
+Hard Rock Master freddie mercury
Freddie wouldnt be able to sing some lz songs just due to the tone of his voice compared to plant. same goes for plant trying to sing queen songs. Actually plant completely fucking butchered Innuendo at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert.
That Guy On The Street ever heard queen's cover of the immigrant song?
That Guy On The Street- Plant did crazy little thing called love. His performance with queen was rock solid at that show. I heard he was ill when he did innuendo, maybe he should have rested his voice.
@@sarat10ms58 How in the fuck could Freddie Mercury sing Zep songs better than Robert Plant? Wake your ass up loser.
The clips are nice. Would have nice to see 1 song all the through. Greatest of all time.
I had a tape of this concert years ago, great to see it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Simon Kirke appearing blew my mind.
wow his voice sounds great!! they look good too bad no pro tape of this but very lucky to see this
I only wish we could have had at least one LIVE performance of the incredible Carouselambra. That was to be the next showpiece into the 80's but not meant to be.
Outrider V yeah that’s a shame. It wasn’t performed with page and plant or by either of the surviving members on their own or with separate individuals, ever.
A small part of Carouselambra's mid section was played almost nightly during the Page/Plant tour of '95. Check out the live version of 'In The Evening' from that tour.
Tragically however, it was only played for about a minute, but that minute was one of the highlights of the show for me!
@@MJEvermore853 oh yes I remember the shivers going down my spine when I saw them live, first at the Forum May 16... incredible feeling. Just wish it were louder ha ha.
Chris Zangara me too! I saw them at Target Center in Minneapolis. Been to tons of concerts, but none of them topped that show. 👍
you make me feel good!
I was at this concert
Robert Plant ..most gorgeous rock star of my generation...under rated vocalist. I still love this band and listen to my favorite ablbums a lot! Still!
By no stretch is Plant UNDERrated.
underrated?? you know what the word means, eh?
Awesome!!!!!!
Wow this recording quality is very low but you can tell they were at about their tightest ever, thanks for posting! Oh for what could have been if they'd have been able to continue...
Pretty great sound for 8mm film!!
I am sure the footage was mated with an audio source separate from the audio (if any) on the film.
I was there. It was my first big concert. I was 16.
wow!!! two drummers in the end... just got the link for this vid, from the lucky man who was their chauffeur for their stay in munich...he had some crazy stories to tell... he saw the show from the back of the stage... some people are simply born under the right star i guess ;)
ProfDrDrN0 thats second last drummer is simon kirk from bad company
Robert looks like he did during the Principle of Moments era, and Jimmy looks like he did for the Death Wish soundtrack. Practically the same time period.
I was there, they stopped the show three times to tell everyone stop pushing up front.
U were there, seriously ?
I'm so jealous, they sound good here
then why was Plant during Trampled Underfoot like this at 3:02:
_'pUsH...pUsH...pUsH, pUsH, yEaH!'_
Who was on drums for Whole Lotta Love?
@@the_rover1 i mean… he does say that all the time
Great gig, EidenSportsHalle Berlin. Bootleg sounds great, always play this one in the car when driving.
Bonzo at 5:00 to 5:40....holy shit!
I thought the same thing!
+Flowing Ananda That's such a tragic tale each time I hear it. Bonzo had some crippling anxiety and depression there at the end. And especially, as has been alluded to in other sources he was one some new meds to help with addictions. I firmly believe those meds weren't good for him and you saw the depressed anxiety WORSEN due to it.
?
Wow. Great footage. And it sounds good too! Most bootlegs from their last tour are horrible, unbalanced soundboards... Page's guitar sounds 'off' - but not here :) A lot of good vibes and energy captured from this gig!
it's very cool to see jpj at the front of the stage on this! (and the drum fills in kashmir are the best!)
