Well he made up for it when he was off his head....if you don't play you might not know he was a very sloppy and messy player sometimes...still a legend none the same.
It doesn't seem like he was playing on the beat as much as the beat was keeping up with him tbh. He's always played loose (or 'sloppy' as purists would call it) but here, at times, it seems Bonham and Jones have to reel him in.
So true. After seeing this in 1995 by Page and Plant and the various other versions. A proper Zeppelin version, the song just takes off as it's intended. The later versions operate with it's heart and soul stripped from it. I look at this way - this is the song as the band envisioned it. Not some Egyptian ensemble with a terrible dragging tempo that guts JPJ's synth solo - those are just bad news in 1995. "Plant-ified," and the greatness ripped from them.
@ Jeff Higgs The 4th, was pretty damn good save for a few nerves. August 11th, I'm sure the band would've wanted a mulligan on that show with the technical problems, string breaks and Jimmy and Bonzo being "off."

To be fair they did have the very best technology available at the time. Look at that telephone on JP's keyboard.
@@Jlipnicki😅😅😅😅
Bonzo was really doing extraordinary things at this point in his career and coming onto something even more incredible. Not to say he wasn't before, but my God he's magnificent here.
That's not even playing the drums.. Its so incredible there's got to be another term for it..
1979 was his best. Listen to copenhagen concerts. Best ever
To me all of them were at their best point that night.
@@dortega12 6/21/77 is certainly a contender for Bonzo's hottest night
When I saw led Zeppelin live I could have swore there was five drummers when John Bonham plays
love the roughness of plants voice in this song..what a great band they were
I remember hanging out with my my buddies and asking 'hey do we like this album now?' What a relief because the answer was affirmative across the board.
Page's playing is out of this world here.
Robert Plant, best “ ohh” in the business.
The phone... on Jonesy's piano... LOVE it!!!
That first chunky note Page plays at the beginning of the solo is the best...it's like you're entering into his dimension, his little world...welcome and prepare to have your face melted.
This track is insane . One of their best ever. All 4 musicians awesome ❤❤❤
these guys were not normal, not for a minute... never were, never will be
Led Zeppelin is the Best Fucking band in the world! !
No Shit!!
Absolutely!!! 🤘🏻
zoso baby...
Usted tiene totalmente la razón!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Always has been always will be.
~ 6:30 I like how jimmy was imitating Roberts voice with the whammy bar....the greatest band to exist. untouchable
So cute hahaha
Bien sûr , à bien écouter le groupe on se rend compte de l’énorme potentiel
When John Bonham transforms noise -- mere sound -- into music, it is the mark of a true genius.
The greatest ensemble band in Rock history
Led zeppelin is the best there is the best there was the best there ever will be
Yes they are. True Rock and Roll Gods forever !!!
I agree 100 percent
End of story!
Yes sir !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Led Zep had the best musicians and singer in the Universe! Beatles had the guitar chords and chorus that shocked the world!
I love this performance so much. Every one of them just reeking with talent
People think zeppelin was past there prime nonsense in the evening great live performance they were just gearing up here ready to to expand zeppelin and become the best band in the universe again the music 🎶 us zeppelin fans were cheated out off because of the tragedy of John Bonham's death Zeppelin was getting better expanding so much great music ahead of them a shame but thank God we have these old videos to realize how truly great they were and would have gotten better
My father bought me in through the out door when i was ? 14,was only albu. I owned i played it over and over .loved it thn. This live version is great. Dad passed in April. Tribute. R i p .c.j.s!!
This will always be my favorite song by Zep. It reminds me of the summer after graduation partying with my friends. My brothers. Many gone now. Great times and great memories. Thank you Zep.
Me too. The memories.
'80 grad agrees.
Plant was so good on stage...his presence... thanks to u tube...an Internet....he moves and acts like he sounds on radio what an awesome front man...the ultimate going way back...coolest part is they really sound like that live not a lot of over dubbing... Jimmy had the sound dialed in... always upgrading...he was a Master...
Robert sounds amazing here!!
They strode the planet like musical monsters. All four of them individually & collectively. No one comes anywhere near them. Headed by the best manager ever Peter Grant.
A year before Bonhams death. Tragedy but still remembered
7:15 -- that build up to the ending man….🤯
Bonham and Page
The Lord of the strings and sounds of the hammer of the Gods - Led Zeppelin !!!!
1000000000000000000 procent true
I'm glad that Jimmy Page found peace within himself and got his act together to this day where his real talent shines.
I'm glad Jimmy was able to save himself, so many can't. I've never hear how he accomplished it. Surely he must have had some help.
Indeed but it's a shame he trashed himself later on around the time of Live Aid. He was wasted and played terrible at that gig.
Clapton never really recovered
pretty sure his 'real talent' has been shinning since he fist picked up a guitar, SMFH. He was the top Sessions player way before he founded, started Led Zeppelin
@@theresacarmen9847 he actually said because of what happened to bonham that he got straight
Anyone else notice Plant looks right at Jimmy and his tone changes when he says "It's got to stop, it's got to stop" almost like pleading with his brother to stop the hard life with drugs when they were beginning to take over. Maybe I'm just reading into it?
Still my favorite band of all time!!!!!! ❤
Yep - think you are, Not that it's inaccurate but......
Looks that way to me too!!! Glad he got better.
It is nice to hear songs on the phone
Robert looking right at Jimmy singing,"it's got to stop,it's got to stop,"
What an awesome live version of this song.
That drum fills... this is why I keep listening this
Many think Bonzo (Bonham) is the greatest hard rock drummer that ever lived. I gotta agree.
Dear God. It don't get better than this.
I WISH I COULD HAVE SEEN LED ZEP LIVE. I JUST MISSED THEM. THE CLOSEST I CAME TO SEEING THEM WAS , SEEING THE FIRM 2 X LIVE WITH JIMMY PAGE. AND SEEN JASON BONHAM , THE MASTERS SON.
Best band ever..love this live version..ROBERT PLANT is the man!!..
Oh...Hell Yeah...... forgot about this one...Mr Dilly was Blown away when LZ came out with this Masterpiece in the late 70's.. It was Fantastic to hear them on the Radio... Again!!!! Thanks CZcams and Whomever......Led Zeppelin... Rules !! In 1979...2024 and Forever !!!! 👍🎸😎❤️
Marry a music man don't cut yourself short their mindset is like no other a life filled with poetic events that's only found in lyrics ..live laugh and love ❤
Was there in 79 at 19 yrs old incredible can’t explain blessed I am …took me weeks to get over the amazing time I had …unbelievable experience in life ..the world was mine ‘✌🏻love ya mr plant and zeppers u truely r the most incredible musicians … mind blowing wish I cud back to those times again …wot a life for rockers a wealth of amazing gigs we did see that’s how it was for us … life changing stuff let me say … life was real and grounded ….and wonderful wot a time to b young 😁
One of the best songs by Zeppelin.
It is truly amazing that while Jimmy was going thru the withdrawals he still never missed a beat. That is how he did it. So beautiful to watch and see
Well he made up for it when he was off his head....if you don't play you might not know he was a very sloppy and messy player sometimes...still a legend none the same.
@@123emser in his heoin days he was!
@@123emser Was the yardstick all other guitarists were measured by.
All of zep gave it their all. Remember that. Giants
It doesn't seem like he was playing on the beat as much as the beat was keeping up with him tbh. He's always played loose (or 'sloppy' as purists would call it) but here, at times, it seems Bonham and Jones have to reel him in.
Now that’s rock n roll ladies and gentlemen. Dammmm. That was great live performance. By the MIGHTY ZEPPELIN. !! Absolutely awesome !!!
Best Rock band in the history of music. Period.
So many versions of this song on CZcams yet this is the only one that really gets off the ground !
Such an Incredible Performance by the Late Drummer, John Bonham! He Died Way Too Young!
Knebworth was one of the best shows they ever performed
@ Jeff Higgs The 4th, was pretty damn good save for a few nerves. August 11th, I'm sure the band would've wanted a mulligan on that show with the technical problems, string breaks and Jimmy and Bonzo being "off."
@ The Beach Guy. That's nice.
Led Zeppelin! Gods of Rock N Roll! The 70s will always be their reigning decade! No one could touch them!
John Bonham, not Joe...
@@rhythmista7707 You're right, sorry the typo came out.
I love the way Jimmy smiles at about 7:31. It likes he knows they nailed it.
Same thing happened during achilles as well on that night
He's smiling because he knows it was a miracle that his guitar stayed in tune. 😄🎸
@@MarcoPolo-je5ej without a locking nut, it's a real miracle
I noticed that also. Love this song. Best version/ video of it, period! Thanks for the post.
I love this version way more than the album studio version 🤘😂🔥😎😎
This is kickass, killer, and awesome. Very catchy, as well.
I am lucky enough to see zepp live in 73, 75 and two nights in a row in 1977 (when they played six nights at the forum here in L.A.). I think the shows in 77 we're my favorite, in particular " Achilles last stand" where Bonham was frigging relentless on the drums.
Congratulations.
I wish that I could be there too
Love how JPJ has a phone on top of his keyboard as if he’s expecting a call mid show.
Probably there in case Page needs heroin.
What a version ! Bonzo at his best with great great great fills ! I have been playing drums for just 9 months in this guy is my pure drumming inspiration ! RIP my friend you were way ahead of every drummer !
I've been playing for 35 years, and he's one of my all time favorites. Every stroke he plays, it seems, is pure magic. Doesn't matter what the track is. One of the Greats.
Luis Terrero z
Hey no one can ever come close to Bonham. He was Paige’s anchor for sure!!
Beatles,Stones then came Led Zep and taught the world what real music was
It is all music, we like what it is to take us away
@@innis52carra you pathetic son of a bitch
Actually without the blues there wouldn't be any Beatles, Stones or Zeppelin 😁😁
They kicked ass for a solid decade. RIP John Bohnam!
I want to go back to August 1st of 1979, ......and begin that month all over again.
Zeppelin had a magical mysticism about them. Lyrically, and musically, no one compares.
