Love Patons. At £42k a pop, they are not cheap. They have the best sounding 650 on the Island. (Looking forward to hearing them again for real next week!!)
I ran in to one of these in the early 1970's in Vancouver, WA I had just started roadracing, one of my friend has one of the 500's in his garage, it was owned by a Swede named Bo Gustafson or something like that, he was a engineer and had ridden the bike at the Isle of Mann it was a basket case at that time. I being a machinist was very impressed by the machine work of the engine, I remember that the cams had a taper on the end that fit to the drive gear so there was infinite adjustability for the timing, Well to make a long story short old Bo put it together and took it to PIR (portland, or ) the next race and got it started, it was about the loudest 4 stroke I have ever heard. I think he sold it to a guy called Wheelchair Larry from Portland.
WoW I had no knowledge of the Paton history at all and very impressed with the enthusiasm of the team. Oddly enough I used to look at the "Hannah Paton" most Saturdays when I was in Liverpool (UK) Bill Hannah MC's had a really big shop and it was on display in the window when not out racing. Wish I would have paid more attention now. I think it was a 250 but have no idea why I would think that. This was the mid 60's.
lifes like that.. think we all live through milestone moments without realising we were witnessing historic moments.. old age sometimes brings wizdom.. 👌👍 from NZ
There are two current Patons, both win races. One a new production run of the Paton 500cc air cooled vertical twin, a pure pure race bike that is very successful in Classic Racing. The modern Paton is powered by a Kawasaki 650cc water cooled vertical engine raced raced with great success in modern Super Twin races.
Wowsa! Awesome video, I've never heard of this manufacturer before which is surprising considering the achievements! New subscriber and looking forward to the next one! Can you do one on that British frame/chassis manufacturer, idk their name but they've been around for some time now.
@@ducaduke 👌 love your channel .. great research .. would loooove to see you do a vid on our Ken MacIntosh's developments incl Robert Holden & the Hiscock brothers & Steve Roberts monocoque f1 bikes.. the first all carbon fiber rockets that were beating all the factory machines in the 70s & 80s .. 🥂 from NZ 🤜🤛
I am also seeing this gem from the Ride 4 game. Too bad I'm only on pace with the CBR 300R for the Southern 100 at the moment. While the game doesn't come close to doing the SR1 justice for a proven race winner, its suspension settings have proven invaluable
Hey, thanks for the video. I’m going to have to look up Paton Motorcycles. I’m not super knowledgeable about motorcycles but I kinda thought i would have heard of Paton if Mike Hailwood had ridden for them. Anyway, thanks again, and good luck with the CZcams channel, I subscribed.
Nice video, thank you. I'm an old guy, so I did know of Paton. By the way, in the 60s and 70s there was no GP racing. You had 4 classes (from 50cc to 500cc) and sidecars. And you had a worldchampion per class.
Where you getting your information from? Motorcycle GP Racing started in 1949 & has never missed a year! There has been various classes over the years 50cc, 80, 125, 250, 350, 500, 750, 800, & 990 & 1000cc machines, also 350 & 500cc sidecars!
Do a video on the ROEHR 1250sc Supercharged Harley liquid cooled v-twin in a frame crafters chrome moly box section chassis . 180hp 115lbs of torque at only 8500rpm handled better than my 1198 ducati .. Acceleration dead even with my buddies 1299 ducati . Only USA superbike that could honestly beat Suzuki gsxr 1000rr on a track day or honda cbr 1000rr . google it . I owned as part of my superbike collection of all new japanese and euro superbikes. Sold it to Barber motorcycle museum .
@@pabloperez4063 Yes for the Isle of Man TT Races they got apprx. 100 HP and around 155 kgs with bigger fuel tank , carbon fairing etc and open exhaust and pipes ! Mine ( Street legal ) has race pistons with Power commander and they claim around 80 HP.

You must do some more research. Paton won again at the TT in the Isle of Man this year using a Kawasaki 650 engine. I am sorry I cannot tell you the winners name only that he is an Italian.
@@pashakdescilly7517 My first really decent dirtbike I owned was a brand-spanking new 175 cc Penton back in 1973. I was all of 20 years old at the time. Anyhow, they used KTM engines on their bikes, starting with the 175, then their 250. Their 100 and 125 bikes use Sachs engines.
Not bad, Ducaduke. You did, however, leave quite a bit out of the story. In the 'later' years of the story, you stayed with GP standings/performance as your reference point. you used primarily IOM footage, but spoke rather little about it. You spent no time with the transition to Kawasaki engines. You barely mention, if at all, Patton's place in the Lightweight TT. And no mention of the great later riders, a notable example being Michael Rutter. Study harder. Dig deeper. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

Great video. Never heard of these. Wonderful story!
Interesting, never heard of these little guys before.
Good job on this piece, keep at it, you'll get better.🙂👍
Thanks for this. Paton bikes are still an absolute legend.
Truly said Jose and i am a proud owner of one S1R Lightweight . Sure the old bikes are living legends .

Looked it up rode TT in 1967 DNF, If i remember the story he just got it and holed a piston, it had those Del Ortho remote float GP carbs.
Are you aware of the late 90’s - early 2000’s Kenny Roberts KR Proton Moto GP bikes? A short video on the development of that bike would be awesome.
That sounds like a awesome idea! Thanks for that I’ll start digging into that!
