If that's what the book called for, that's totally fair. Still funny lol
Dealerships be like
10:40 you beat me to it, I'd half typed out the comment when i saw 😂😂😂
I laughed too! 😂😂😂
Priceless comedy LOL
I have to applaud Chrysler for releasing such a wild concept to the public.
Agreed. This stood as one of the most polarizing designs in production automotive lore for what, two decades?
Yea it would be great if they combined their current power trains with more of this retroish styling
I agree to bad they did not follow through with it and make a great car
They spent so long working to see if they could being it to market that nobody stopped to ask if they should.
@@engir63 they did the best they could for the time. Chrysler wasnt in a good way at the time and nor did Mercedes benz help much. It's funny how many automakers such as Toyota are sitting on literal mountains of money, yet they still half ass their sports cars every bit as much these days.... despite joint ventures that take eons to materialise.
I just learned on Jay Leno's Garage that Chip Foose was the designer (perhaps inspiration is a better word) of the Prowler back when he was a student at the Art Center College of Design and before he worked for Boyd Coddington.
I once saw Prince driving his purple Prowler. Greatest day of my life.
The country music star, George Jones, had one, too -- saw him driving it once in Nashville.

Is there room for a supercharger under the hood?

WOW! Well done! This Prowler definitely went to the right owner. Before modding it beyond recognition like some CZcamsrs do, you made some very tasteful mods that enhanced what was there. Definitely a dream car of mine. Well done! Can't wait to see more.
look for viper V10 prowler!!!
Tyler: “that only took what? 30 minutes? “
Wizard: “ima charge you 2 hours”
😂😂😂
@deadend facts
Classic
That's how it works. If something takes 2 book hours, that's what you get charged. Whether it takes 30 minutes or 6 hours.
I highly doubt wizard actually charged Hoovie as much as he says. Because hoovie gets wizard more views and more fans
“Anyone need a prowler OEM gear set?” everyone: Nope.
Tyler does so much right, but you can't buy a since of style. Some of the things he does makes me shake my head. example... the seats in the ferrari.
@@TinS0lder Those seats are fantastic!
Lol he dosent even go here
Since the transaxle was just a 42LE put in the back, couldn't you use these gears in, say, a 300M or Concorde? Or any LH platform car for that matter? Lol
Candisa that’s facts
This was a dream car as a kid. It looked so modern yet so old school.
yeah, I remember being put off by the Automatic, But given the amount of engineering love that went into it I am truly a fan of them now.
Always knew V6s can make a great sonorous sports car engine if not too muffled by turbos. People who say V6's cannot sound sexy think they only exist in minivans, even Hyundais little delta V6's in those old tiburons and ofcourse the Volkswagen VR6s sounded amazing with just an intake and exhaust.
Modern yet old. Can't argue with that !
It's a car that still commands a lot of attention on the road, but no one buys them because they came with a V6 which is sad, because the only ones available for me are collectors with 4900 miles on em!
Still my dream car as an adult (32)
Alfa Romeo Busso V6 makes a gorgeous noise with a performance exhaust..
That's a real mechanic when they can jump from repairing a 200k mile Kia to a Lamborghini in the same garage
the Wizard 🎉
It’s cool seeing how much more comfortable the Wizard is in front of a camera nowadays. He’s so relaxed now, compared to the “deer in headlights” look he used to have. 😂
Facts. The wizard has really come into his own. We have seen him grow up right before our eyes.
In all honesty though this is what CZcams was supposed to be all about. Just creators putting out cool content.
We love the wizard. Realest YT mechanic out there
Tyler: Do you need help?
Wizard (0.0001s): NO
That was funny
I heard that then hit the comments to see if somebody else caught that; so I could give it a thumbs up.
The fact that the Wizard hesitated at all is slightly concerning.
I'm pretty sure if he was making eye contact with the Wizard that before he even asked the wizard anything he would have just blurted out "NO!" 🤚😮 LOL!
"Ima charge you two hours" with immediate edit to another scene. Freaking hilarious.
Edit out the rebuttal 😂😂
Now that was funny!!!🤣🤣🤣
That Chrysler 3.5L was a great engine. I had a 2002 300M Special with the same engine and transaxle. Absolutely intoxicating exhaust note. Best and most reliable car I’ve ever owned. Chrysler was on fire from the mid/late 90s until Daimler sucked the life out of them.
You are correct and like BMW who sucked the life out of Rover for 4wd Intel, Daimler ( the Chrysler was silent) did the same. I had other people rave to me about Chrysler products I recommended in the 90s to them.
We have had our 2000 LHS for 21 years and 278k miles. Still runs great. The Prowler does as well!!
There were still some pretty good Mopar engines up until the early 2010s when they really went down the drain
My dad machined the brake rotors for this car. I remember being in the machine shop in the 90s watching him work and being in awe
8:53 *"So this will make my rear end a little more snappy"*
-Tyler Hoover, 2020 😂😂😂
I should buy your Plymouth prowler
Do it
Not your style, it’s not broken! @Tavarish
And make it a manual
Not if it isn't totaled
Easy to cut in half🤣
The Wizard is like the automotive Bubbles from trailer park boys.
That fun to read that, because after seen many time the wizard on CZcams I make myself the same thinking today watching this video.
Instead of kitties he collects hoopties lol
Barking 2nd is the most satisfying thing in the world. Mine is down at the moment but thank you for putting a smile on my face hearing that.... Thanks for the videos, cheers!!
This car seems like such a cake walk to work on, never would have guessed.
Most Chrysler vehicles of that period were easy to work on. I've done the absolute quickest timing belt and water pump replacement on a car with this 3.5l engine, that I had to double check I didn't miss anything. It was also the cheapest timing belt job, which included everything that should have been replaced.
Sides of the engine look pretty tight....
The sides don't matter, there is not much on the side
I love the 300m and lhs 3.5 LH platform great cars unstated now I wonder if the diff tricks on the LH cars too.
The diff trick might work, I do remember they were chain driven, but I never opened one. I never needed to open on, those cars were reliable, with only minor issues.
You know someone is a car salesman when they claim they loose $ on every car they sell, but keeps doing it.
Just because he sells it for less than he has into it doesn’t mean he’s not making money. Don’t think tyler is being deceitful. Guy is pretty open about his financial situation
Ha, it’s true. they lose money up front but make it all back on the trade in/manufacturer kickback or in Tyler’s case CZcams views!
The phrase I've heard is "we make it up in the volume."
He makes the money off CZcams, not the cars. Its a dream job,he already has a couple bucks, crazy credit limit and then he gets to buy cars he has always wanted, drive them and make money even off the worse examples. I don't know how long this business model can last, but he still has a day job.
Do you really think someone with 1 million subscribers in a video with 250k views is worried if he gains or looses a pair of dollars in the car?
Ive had 2 of those first gen Sorentos including my DD today. Good solid trucks. Smooth, lots of room, great value. It's a tank up here in the great white north winters.
When the Plymouth Prowler came out, they were hard to come by and they sold for thousands over sticker price. A 253 horsepower engine was pretty impressive at the time.
i know yet today they are cheap %$$% to buy usually
@@KrGsMrNKusinagi0I remember them coming out back in the late 1990s. You didn't see many in the Nashville area, so you could recognize most of the owners. It was mostly well off folks like George Jones. A base car was around $40K -- that was two years of income for many people.
Tyler: “This (Prowler) is a hoot.” So that makes it Hoover’s Hooptie Hoot!
Hammering Hoovie's hoopty's a hot hoot.
Lmfao
And he's re-wiring it. So that makes it Hoovie's Hotwired Hoopty hot hoot
The prowler is literarily a concept car that went into production. Similar to how the chevy SSR looks like a concept.
Other way around
Ssr is just a Corvette with a truck body
I'd add the Solstice to that list too. 🙂
Except the Prowler actually looked and still looks awesome, unlike the goofy (or ugly) cartoon-ish SSR.
@@corionh4775 true, the prowler has some cool design characteristics.
Love the relationship yall have. "That only took half an hour", "I'm gonna charge you for 2!" Hilarious
It just seems to go over everyone’s head that the Prowler was made primarily for Chrysler to gain knowledge and experience in producing basically an all aluminum car. Many of those involved were lost to Ford in the crash and went on to develop the aluminum F-150.
Also, it gets overlooked that the Prowler basically is an Indy car design and weighed in at roughly 2,800lbs. At the time of production, 250HP in a 2,800lb car was a pretty damn good power to weight ratio.
I always felt the same way about the power/weight ratio with these Prowlers when they were new, and back in the late-90's even Vettes only made about 90 more horsepower than this... But most auto publications called these "underpowered" which was weird to me. I've never driven a Prowler but I did lease an '01 Chrysler 300M brand new right out of college with this same drivetrain in about a 500lb heavier car, and I remember it feeling pretty quick for its time.
Prowler looks really cool without the hood side panels.
Shame about that front bumper though.
It just looks like there are panels missing...

The best part of this video is how genuinely excited and happy you are with the results.....Oh, and grabbing 2nd.
Awesome prowler you turned it from a notrod to a hotrod like it should have left the factory. Great job.
I love that the intake is buried in the fender. A whole lot of air in there, for sure!
The ECU is in the worst place!!!!
I haven't seen that part of a Prowler in person. For the ECU, generally not as good as having it in the interior. Still, if they provided a path for cool air to get to the intake in that area, it will probably also help keep the ECU cool.
@@kc9scott eh, it has the processing power of a wet peanut. Thermals shouldn't be an issue.
@@kc9scott About the only engine bay ECU placement that didn't make much sense to me was my friend's TJ wrangler- up high on the firewall, just hanging out. Only say that because of what a lot of off roaders get into in their jeeps. Trailblazers have them up on the side of the intake manifold, but I don't think any serious 'froader would be getting one as deep in water as a jeeper.
ECU will be gone in a minor fender bender
Honestly I've always loved prowlers, I love the open wheel front end design!
I have a 99 300M. The 3.5 HO is a great motor. The torque down low feels like a V8. I lowered my drive ratio by swapping the transaxle chain kit to one from a 2.7L Concord. Very spirited now.
His feeling of joy at the end. I remember that feeling after upgrading my preludes clutch. The mechanics voice sounds like randy quaid.
I love that the Wizard has a big BMW flag in his shop , but refuses to work on them. :)
I think he's happy to work on older ones, mid 1990s back. He's spoken highly of the E30 3-Series in earlier videos
I think he will work on them but not for Hoovie as he doesn't want to support his addiction.
Its strange because I also see a Mercedes and an Audi in the corner at 6:55
I loved everything about this car when it came out. I was a kid and thought it was just the wildest thing. I would love to own one if good examples weren't so expensive...
I've always liked the sound of V8s best, but for a V6 in this little Prowler it sure does sound quite nice.
i love you guys, you seem like genuine friends!!

Bumpers are for 5mph and under...if you are lucky. Ever look at some plastic front end trucks? (Like a 2000s Tacoma) The plastic fascia may look slightly like a bumper, but all that comes into play during a crash are small comes at the end of the frame. Gr8 episode! Very informative, self deprecating, and optimistic. Sounds like a prescription to heal our national ethos! Can do!!🏁🇺🇸
I wish more manufacturers did that. That seems a heck of a lot easier than re-gearing a transmission to change the acceleration or top end fuel economy of your car. A guy in his garage, or a mechanic with a half-hour, could totally change the character of your car with an easily replaceable and relatively cheap set of sprockets and chains. They're probably less durable than a straight up live rear axle and certainly a limited slip differential but would you rather replace a chain/sprocket set that could act as the circuit breaker, first point of failure or a whole rear diff if that's the point of breakage?
I remember when this car first hit the market, everyone poo-poo'd the thing. I always thought it was a pretty neat car and when you give the aftermarket 20 years they come out with some pretty cool mods to create HP and torque it makes it even way cooler. Tyler might keep this for awhile?
Poo pooed them but we still sold them for 20k over sticker
I still remember exactly where I was the first time I saw one in person. I was on Houston Rd in Florence, Ky in front of wal-mart. Thought it was pretty cool looking ride. Not that it matters at all.
I really enjoy the Wizard's channel, but I also appreciate the fact that he takes so much time on your channel to talk about what he's doing and why and actually show us things.

I hired one while on holiday in Florida, what a machine! The best I could do when I got back to the UK was to buy a replica, around 10 of these were made by a company called Fiero. Had a long chat with the owner of the company, replica as meticulously made. My example was one of the best, the show car Fiero made themselves. Only 6 were ever completed and registered for the road. The engine was the trusty Ford V6, as was the rest of the running gear. I had a ball for a few years until we moved. Wish I could afford the real thing!

the response time of that "auto-stick" is comical.
Moving the auto-stick is more of a suggestion than actual control input. Kinda reminds me of the shift speed in my '94 Mercury Cougar XR7.
It is a reminder of how far we have come tho
Dude tell me about it. And downshifting is such a bitch, it catches so hard and lurches the car. So I've learned to give it some gas while downshifting and also braking when coming to a stop. It gives the dope downshifting sound without getting yanked back.
My god the delays in the shift.... Are there manual conversions available for this car? With a manual that car would actually be amazing.
You can do anything with enough money.
@@2Skinny Well sure, you could spend a shitload on making a bespoke conversion, but I'm more so talking along the lines of well established and understood methods of doing it. (like taking a gearbox and the ancillaries from a doner vehicle and putting it in)
Well, if you find another rear transmission vehicle, and someone who can weld to the aluminum subframes on the car, as well as have half shafts and drive shaft (which runs at engine speed) , retrofit the clutch pedal a and install linkages down the length of the car, and all sorts of stuff, sure it’s possible!
The short answer is: YES. There are also LS-motor conversion kits for all those types out there.
It would make more feasible sense to have the transmission rebuilt by a specialist I am sure there is a prowler transmission guy who knows all the tricks to make them better. All the Chevrolet automatics have different tricks you can do to make them shift much faster, and I don't just mean increasing line pressure. I am sure there is a Chrysler transmission guy aswell.
I thought Tyler was an only child. I was surprised when he mentioned his sister.
Hopefully, his sister isn't like Stevie T's "hot sister"...lol
Sweet.....My dream car is to own a Prowler.....But for right now my 99 Porsche boxster is going to have to do.....Can't believe how innovative and easy these machines are to work on.....Pure simplicity at it's finest.....And I agree that the V6 for the time period was the best choice for this machine.

That's because Hoovie threatened to "help".
That’s pretty normal. I mean, if you were really good at your job, but you got payed less because someone not as good as you had to take two hours to do it right when you could do it in a half an hour, would you be happy? I sure wouldn’t be.
@@MicahS70T5M Plus this means that the customer doesn't get screwed over if the mechanic takes way too long

Nice work...car looks great and it's alive!
Came across this when looking to see what folks have done this many years later to Prowlers. Those reduction gears were popular back in 2004 or so with the Intrepid crowd because someone found that the stock Prowler transfer gears fit and that they were the same or similar to 300M Special ones. So then folks put those or the Prowler Pro (brand at the time) gears on their 1st gen LH cars. It was a wild time.
