I have been reading a lot about how many OW players are saying melee infantry is pointless, but in the back of my mind, I’m thinking that these are players coming from 40K and don’t understand how to use common infantry. It’s like if you saw an Imperial Guard list with 20 guardsmen and expected them to do anything. You need more of them to create pressure, board control, screening, and tying up expensive threats.
problem with empire is they are so expensive compred to similar units like men at arms (almost twice)
@@felixarbable not really, a halbird is 50% more expensive (on paper), but there are mittigating factors as well. Though without horde they can't get a third rank bonus, without a need for warband they can go 3 deep, or even 2. If you are going less than 4 deep men at arms you are doing it wrong, and realistically to avoid having your static res and morale tank on any losses you're gonna be 5 deep, Also their command staff is more expensive though thats less signifigant.
Don't get me wrong, moa are better for cost overall, but its not like they are the same.
Whenever you says “BSB” all I think of is the Blood Starved Beast from Bloodborne. What does it mean here?
Battle standard bearer, which grants a +1 to combat modifiers I think.
It also allows you to reroll break and panic test when within 12" of it.

The Old World has been the best game - board, card, or miniature game - that I've played in decades in pure fun factor. I've been in the heavy strategy board game space for a long while, pulled away from GW since 2015 and the End Times, and now have returned. I don't even care about 40K or AoS or any other game they are making right now: I'm all in on the Old World and it is a ton of fun. I've even been selling board games to get my 2 armies fully up and running (Bretonnia and Lizardmen using the Seraphon minis). I hope within the next few years I can collect Dwarfs, Wood Elves, High Elves, Ogres, and Vampire Counts as well (and maybe more). Also helps I found a really good local community.
I had to tone down my core choices slightly, I went from 100 men at arms and 80 archers to 80 men at arms and 0 archers in 2k points. There is easily such a thing as too much, but you want a lot.
In duel nothing can effect outside models, so even template spells/effects hit only duelists. So how the hell explosion from mistcast kill models in units?
That does not seem to be true. And if we consider what would happen in “real life” the channels of the Aether would not respect the rules of mutual combat.
Infantry is worthless against the most over-tooled units, but you rarely see those armies with nothing but Uber units.
The ven diagram of killy enough to kill infantry, and tough enough to withstand infantry, is nearly two separate circles
I hate to ruin an epic memory, but from the sounds of it you were playing phantasmagoria very wrong.
The panic test it causes happens after you end a move in range. By the time you've done that, the window to test for impetuous is already over. if the spell is still around in your opponents following turn, then they have to test for impetuous before declaring charges.
You're right- I think I must have mis remembered the sequence due to being tired.
Once I cast the spell, my opponent had a chance to dispel in his turn in his command phase- he failed to do this, so that's when impetuous kicked in.
I hope the old world community develops as the communities of fan made games like reforged or armies project
Yes on tournaments you face quite powerfull lists (liretally some slan combos that can cast an entire lore without using dice and shit like that) but on casual games people dont care that much about that and runs funny things
Was there an FAQ I missed or why can you not use your generals LD for Stupidity?

@@Jewus19 Yeah Mordian Glory is mistaken. Inspiring Presence says you replace the units LD characteristic with the generals, and Stupidity is worded the same as rallying.
You don't think Inspiring Presence applies for a stupidity test anymore? (it always used to)
was asking the same thing. cant find anything within the rulebook forbidding it. Wouldve turn trolls 100% useless (not the case I think)
Having re-read it, I think it does... You can't use the BSB though, which makes sense.
@MordianGlory Did you consider of paying the extra 16 pts to buy a warhorse on a BSB to give him a 2+ save?
Everyone taking level 4 mages... just like in 8th. I really miss 6th edition where you could play the game without taking high level wizards.
just because everyone is taking them does not mean that you cannot play without them. Vale over at *Square Based* played very successfully in a recent tournament, using no magic and barely any magic items at all (as orcs and goblins). Instead he was hugely successfull due to his superior numbers.
Also, it is a fantasy game. If you don’t want magic play Napoleonics!😊
Bro 6th edition was the heaviest magic edition of them all.
