They have also taken money and skills training out of our schools. I took up welding and wood working in high school. We also had small engine repair. This was back in the early 90's.
I disagree with KM. I was incarcerated in the Georgia State system. Many years ago. I got my GED and got strong enough to work in construction. I raised 4 kids, and now I'm traveling the world working as an electrician. I worked my ass off. The fact is that many in prison are lazy and / or have a drug problem. Simple solution to poor black youth. Graduate high school and then find a Mexican construction crew. Join them. Work like they do. Learn thru experience and level up your pay. Give it a few years, then find a trade school. Then, join a labor union. This way, you can learn to work hard. It's a competitive world, and you have to work harder than everyone else.
Y’all already know why, cheap labor and job retention in small communities where a lot of these prisons are ran. I did 4 years in prison and it sickened me how many capable young men were unable to read at a fifth grade level. I am by no means ridiculing them, I took it upon myself as a college graduate and a felon to offer assistance to anyone who has a question or whatever and thanked those who did because I thought it was important to be positive and encourage them. It’s a broken system that has spiraled out of control and while people are accountable for their actions, racism and discrimination are still rampant throughout. I pray that they offer more legitimate opportunities for training and education.

Privatized prisons should be illegal as it is. It should be outlawed in America soon. There are legitimate ties to people getting incentive to have more prisoners. This is not positive, we do not need anything but a rehabilitation program. And it needs to be handled by someone that actually cares about people that have been in situations like these people
It's true in Europe most countries have few programs but I think it's not like holidays. Most people don't use it to get out smarter but it's true of the jails are 100 times more horrifying and early to me it is like modern slavery in your country or South America, Africa or Korea .
Privately owned prisons should definitely be illegal and then the owners paying judges to place people in said prisons should be placed absolute worst punishments EVER

Okay, so I’m not sure. The inmates here in MN have more than ample opportunities to be released with skills beyond where they were when they entered the mix. Believe it or not, they’re more likely to get their GED while incarcerated than if they were free. That’s facts. If they want it. It’s not honest to say that once incarcerated you’re doomed to counting the cinder blocks in your cell. No, it’s not perfect. But if you’re willing to work, you can absolutely better yourself.
Yeah mosts jails in this county they come in as petty crooks. Leave as murderers or have a drug habit. Now they enter back into society with a chip on they shoulder. They have been institutionalized and come out angry at the world. They give off a predator vibe and it will be hard for them to find legal work. Which means they going back in so when are they being reformed?
Well in nyc they can send them to the halfway house and let them hold down a job. That way they can be ease back into society. Since they can't take any drugs or have to be back at a certain time. The person has to make the choice do i do for myself and have a life. Or am i going back to my prison life. The more institutionalized they are they don't care. The whole point is it's a punishment... not making light of this, but think back to when you were a child. When you were punished, the point was to learn and do better. Now imagine after you finished being punished, your parents didn't let you get an allowance, or cook for you, or do anything that let you grow past your mistake. Now you get in a situation where you can get your allowance and food by taking from other kids. Obviously, you'll do that 9:10
