Pay attention people. This guy is dropping serious knowledge. I'm doin this 28 years. He covered everything. I agree with everything he said. You have to wreck jobs to learn what he is givin away for free !!
Hey Kandy Man. I always appreciate all the tips and tricks you bring to the table. I’m sure it comes with years of experience. Silver for sure is a tough color to blend. True master of your craft. The job came out beautiful. Enjoy you weekend in sunny Florida.
I appreciate that!
Hi Kandy Man. I was taught by a paint tech rep to use blender before AND after the basecoat application over the ENTIRE PANEL to be blended!
However, I think they are wrong, and agree with you that applying the full coat of blender at the end, gives you the opportunity to remove the pesky little atoms of dry spray from the original unpainted surfaces beforehand. However blending at the start before basecoat, just makes those little flecks of silver stick to the panel. They say it’s to promote adhesion & uniformity etc, but I disagree with their advice, & glad to see you do it the way it makes sense.
👊👊👍
MAN! You drop more Jewels on this video than most combined. You are a paint and prep Monster for sure Brother! Thank you for all your awesome videos!
Appreciate it 👊
You are a brave man painting a silver with the panels off the car but like the pro that you are you pulled it off👌🙏👍john UK
👊👊👍
Brian from Paint Society, his statement dont overthink it, its just paint, seem a little off. there are tons of stuff to think about when painting a car or any other thing for that matter.... i used to work as a house painter before, but painting automotive stuff seems like expert stuff in comparison.
Thank you
Thank you too
Love the vids
Great Tutorial KM! Thanks 👌
Glad you liked it!
I remember doing these same steps with sw's AWX line. Don't miss those days at all
Great minds think alike.I've been using the aerosol blender on sealer edges for years. And using the wetbed over the completed blend has several benefits when spraying the waterborne base.Much respect.
Good stuff!
Looks great silver can be a royal pita , im on my 3rd try 😢
Excellent video. The POV is awesome 👍
Thanks 👍
Be cool to see a video breaking down the use of the sun light. A How to and use of the different spectrums
I’m new to painting and honestly your videos have been helpful fr fr , I went from doing cutting in parts and priming for the painter to becoming one myself . I just started painting back in November since one of the painter left due to being sick and is going to be out for a while and won’t be coming back as painter . So the head painter who’s in charger of the painting department asked me if I wanted to take the position or they was gonna hire somebody else , so honestly I just said yeah I’ll take and ruled the dice . Knowing dam well the only thing I knew how to do was prep cars , didn’t have a clue on how to spray certain colors even tho I’d ask for help but the other two painters that work at the body shop , the methods they knew weren’t really working for me until I started watching your videos and from there my work has been coming out way better and less buffing I gotta do
Awesome 💪💪
I have never turned my fan 90 degrees for blends. I think I will try this.
👊👊
Great video man
Glad you enjoyed
Great job..Nice to see someone not blending the hood 👍🚘
Great job in 1 day!
Thanks!
Definitely will have to give this method a try. Never tried it like this. Also you should do a video about fixing issues in the waterborne base coat
Will do
Thanks for posting this! Job turned out sweet.
Love the videos , really helpfully and another beautiful repair.
You enthuse me to learm more and try painting and car repair.
Thank you .
Awesome
Can you do a Basic color matching demo. Thanks
Love your, too the point explains and why’s!
Angelo the Kandy man artist when you have your hair net on , Man ...
Much appreciated!!!! Excellent work
Some colors they come with a black primer from factory, these I usually spray right over the e coat for cheap jobs (dealership work)
However super super good knowledge on the color match, your right what's the point if it looks like dog poop in a few months.
IMPORTANT QUESTION
how do you feel about non sanding primers that go straight over e coat without sanding before hand?
Ours is cromatic but I sand the outside of the panel always .but the inside no .it's a approved process from ppg
Excellent job 👍
I have an issue with silvers.
Even though I have a good match I still see that the section of the panel I painted is not a sparkly not as metallic as the factory.
under certain angle you can see the "flatness" in my paint.
anybody has a suggestion on gun size , tip size, nozzle size, pressure or whatever I can do to help my issue greatly appreciate it thank you
Tight work.
Thank you
Great video kandyman before wetbed I use to hit my sealer edge with some reducer ,but I use wetbed now
The wet bed is not what he used for smoothing the sealer edge- it is a spray can solvent/blender. Like your reducer! He used the wet bed after the base coat silver. to see how the blend looked.
@jaykrom7639 yes same thing you use to melt in clear for spot repair
@@johnpoccia4981 I feel there is some confusion going on over wet bed and blender in general. And the industry doesn't help much. I have two totally different products calling themselves blenders.
1) Spray Max spray can "Spot Bender" which is really just a slow solvent great for smoothing out the edge of a clear coat blend- flows it out to a flat gloss (don't buff it much- of course the edge is now thin) This is what is also used to thin out the edge of the sealer before base coat. Don't use it on basecoat.
2) Automotive Art "Basecoat Blender" which has solids in it and is also the 'wet bed'- basically a clear paint base coat.. This is good for spraying out before you have to blend a silver base coat (so the silver particles in the paint don't lay flat and give you a visible halo edge- they stick in the blender like in the rest of the fresh basecoat.) KM used it above after his base coat to see what his blend looked like. If it had been noticable he would have dusted more silver on it, but he didn't have too at 10:15. One would never spray the thinner/solvent blender here -especially on solvent based base coats- you would ruin the blend. Just putting this out there as I had a lot of trouble with it and trial and error.
Thanks for the knowledge 🤘🏻💪🏻
Great job Kandy Man👌👏
😁
Awsome 👍
Would be nice to tell or write the pressure in your steps
👍
Another great video and top job. Can you remember what air pressure and tips you used on the 3m gun.
1.2 15 psi
Nice!
Thanks!
Great video. Thanks for the tips, I'm still trying get the whole blend thing down you make it look easy. And you use a clear base for your wet bed? And use it from the same line on paint you used for the job?
KM didn't use it to blend here. He used for inspection. See my comment on blenders aright above to johnpoccia4981.
How do you prep the fender flare? 600 grit + adhesion promoter?
It was primed prepped it with k600
6:17 hi buddy! I have another question, how about the ECS25 sealant? Is it the same as the ECS85? I want to apply the ECS25 sealant over the SX1071 stripper, is it possible? I consult all my doubts in the official ppg technical sheet, but I still ask your opinion, I am about to paint my gmc sierra. greetings!
Sealer over etch 👍
@@kandyman5315 Thanks again brother!👍🏻👍🏻
For some reason silver metallic I have an easier time than cement. The cement we have has a very fine metallic.
👍
Does all that blending need to be done because it is silver and with silver you can see through it?
Silver shows everything
Great video . What reduction on the EHP base 20% and which clear EC530
Thanks Kandy Man
20% , clear ppg 2021clear
What blender are you using on the sealer? I only have base coat and top coat blender. Would those work or would it be better to use the reduced I used for the sealer as a blender?
That blender your using will work on the sealer as well
One day when I can afford it I’ll buy one of those 3m guns.
Have you used the new PPG binders yet that allows the 1.5 coat process?
Not yet
What temperature you spray your basecoat and clear coat?
80
Blending primer?.
👍
Do you think waterborne is gonna be the new solvents I’ve talked to a lot of older generation shop owners and they get defensive waterborne not gonna last. why do I need to change. You need special equipment. Solvent the way to go. I try telling them change is good an the industry is changing an I believe if you don’t change with the times your gonna be left behind yes it maybe working for you now what’s the future have in hold in like 10 or even 20 years
Yes I've been spraying water for 20 years
@@kandyman5315Been spraying solvent paints on and off for50 years. Time flies. Water seems to blend a lot easier, but I'm not having much luck on the colors. Videos like yours help a lot. (I had a Toyota grey that had 9 different chips- non matched!)
I guess the prep guy didn’t work out I’ve been seeing you prepping everything yourself
👍
