  • Vlog Description: ⛰️🦅
Welcome back to my Canadian Wildlife Photography adventures! In this video, I will take you on a trip to a NEW local park in the beating heart of Toronto, Ontario, Canada showcasing some of it's bird photography, covering species of Hawks and many other smaller bird species, and a NEW photographic first for me the Screech Owl using the Canon R7 & R3, with the RF 100-500 L IS & EF 200-400 L IS 1.4 Ext
    Location:🍁🇨🇦
In this video I will cover some of the following:
    a. 🦅 Species Information I will talk about the species being photographed including it's flight, prey choice and habitats they prefer to hunt in. I will also discuss some of the essential equipment and camera settings to put you in the perfect position to capture those all important images.
    b. 🌄 Location We will move around the park to cover varying types of habitats that these different species prefer, including the best times of the day, where to position yourself and how best to stay hidden from sight.
c.📸 📹 Photographic Techniques I will help you with all the techniques required to photograph & video these amazing birds of prey. I will also explain the upmost importance of ethical wildlife photography and how best not to disturb the birds and allow them to continue to hunt without any disturbance.
    d. 📷 Photographic Composition I will explain the best way to capture the subject in the frame, which include the rule of thirds and also breaking the rules with new compositions and techniques to get your photography noticed.
e.🦌 Wildlife Ethics: Wildlife Photography ethics is at the heart of what I do as a professional photographer, I will teach you the vital importance of respecting and conducting safe and responsible wildlife photography and how to never forget that it's the subjects welfare that comes first out of any image. I do not bait wildlife and I don't use baited hides to illicit an image, this for me isn't wildlife photography and presents little or no challenge to the photographer. They have their place in some situations but for me it's just not something I enjoy or do.
    f. 🍂 Summary So come with me on my journey of discovery as I venture into the Canadian wilderness and explore all the magical wildlife this country has to offer.
My channel caters for all experience levels, from the beginner, intermediate and Professional, there is something for all. I will give you all the tools required to become a competent and successful Wildlife & Conservation photographer.

Great find with the owl. You work just like me. Get in, get out, avoid onlookers. They usually are not as ethical as I am. Thanks for sharing.

Richard, big fan of the channel, I like watching you do what I do. I call myself a wandering photographer. Getting up early, get to the woods alone and just “see what there is to see”. I too go home and research a species after photographing, especially if I observe something that I don’t understand. I also try to never stress the animal for the sake of a photo. I love your comments on field craft, tracks, and animal behavior. This is something I’m always trying to get better at. I wish I knew more about nest identification, as I see so many now in these winter months! Thanks for taking us along!

Hi Kelly, thanks very much indeed for supporting the channel and enjoying my content it's always very much appreciated. I think sometimes being a wanderer has lots of benefits and can work really well, I love just to be out in nature and see what crosses my path. Ethics are at the heart of what I do and the subjects welfare must always come first. I love doing nature tracking and you always learn something new which makes it so much fun. My pleasure, all the best Rich 👍

A quick tip about those wood ducks if you find yourself in a remote forested wetland next summer!
They nest in tree cavities just like owls! Usually in a forest... always near water.... You can get some fascinating photos of them up in the shaded green canopy (while mosquitoes try to murder you😅)
They're very shy, even when they're up high🔭🦆

Great video Richard. I am east of Toronto, a little more than an hour, and have just stumbled on your videos. I too am in love with owls and birding, and southern Ontario is a great place for it. It's amazing the amount of wildlife in the GTA given the amount of people, but there are some nice parks and nature areas for them. The greenbelt itself is a corridor that is essential for birds and other wildlife and it is amazing to have that across the province. One owl that I've come accross by complete accident is a Northern-Saw-Whet owl, smaller than an eastern-screech owl and much harder to spot, and maybe you'll see one as well (if you haven't already!). I am curious how much you have ventured out of the GTA as well to explore some of the amazing nature we have to offer, especially just in Ontario.

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  Před 9 měsíci

Hey there, great to hear from a local and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment it's always very much appreciated. Yep I am always amazed to see such a variety of wildlife here in the GTA, the corridor that allows the wildlife to flow through the busy parts of the City is essential for the mammal species to roam freely without too much danger from us Humans! I've not seen one of them yet but I'll look forward to when I do, mu gosh they are harder to spot! That's going to be difficult, lol.. I've been North to Kearney, as far east as Rouge PP so far, I aim on venturing further when time allows! Heading to Quebec soon for 5 days, so hopefully I'll get to see some wildlife there. Just trying to get used to my local patch first. Thanks again for checking out my channel, and if you Subbed that's very kind. Hope to speak again Rich 🙏👍

Well said on the destruction. A local wood here got felled recently. This was not for houses, but because the woodland trust wanted to replace the 100+ year old trees with native trees. When I asked why they chopped down 6 old oak trees I was basically told to shut up. Seems a big of money is all it takes to get away with destroying whatever developers want.

Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience with us. That's very sad to hear, it's seems to be quite the "Norm" these days for wildlife organisations to do that type of thing and hide behind the trees have out lived their useful life, which is a shocking statement! Sad times my friend, sad times! Cheers Rich 👍
