Let's go on a bird photography trip together to record and photograph the amazing Bobolink. Many people describe the song of the Bobolink as sounding like the voice of the robot R2-D2 from Star Wars. This bird's population has declined by 90 pct since the 1960s, so we're off on an adventure to see if we can find it and record its amazing voice.

I was out for a trail run today and noticed many of these beauties flying around on the former CRP land I run at. I’ve seen them before but had never figured out what they were. Bobolinks! They are just a beautiful, striking little bird with such a cool call. I have noticed, in my area anyway, that there are more around every year. I’ve been running this trail for about 20 years and had never seen them up until maybe just before the pandemic. This year they seem to be all over the place! I hope this means the population is increasing.

I had a good chuckle when I read the title of this VLOG. Many years ago I had to learn all my grassland songbirds and their associated sounds. I associated the song of the Bobolink with the bird by telling myself "it sounds like R2D2".

I have Bobolinks along the walking route I take along the river behind my house. I've had a hard time getting a good photo of them. They are pretty elusive, but their call is quite recognizable. About 3 years ago, one mated pair showed up, this year I can here several along the tree line between the river and the hay fields. I'll try to capture their song on my next walk. Thanks so much for sharing your work! Great video work, photographs are amazing, and I love how informative you are. Thanks!!

I don't consider myself a professional photographer because in every shot I take, I try to learn or, better yet, find a way for others to identify my work only by looking at it, meaning that I never follow rules. It is like cooking recipes and instructions, in which I take ideas but use them with my own creative touches, for example changing condiments, using what I like instead of processing it following literally as the creator.

Simon you pulled it off again!!! This is fantastic like your search for the winter wren. It’s fantastic to see you go out with a set goal (and take the the opportunities as they present themselves in the meantime) and fulfill it. At the beginning I thought oh nooo. He is in the overly romantic camp now . But you kept the perfect balance. I mean it is kind of romantic what we are doing but we all know that anyways and don’t need constant reminders. We all feel that when we are out. But you sharing your path and slowly getting closer tonality target makes me feel like it’s Weekend again on Monday night:D

Hi Simon: Wonderful video! It's great to see you getting excited after capturing Blue-winged Teal and Northern Shoveler. Here in Alberta, they're more common than Nova Scotia. On Sunday, I was at Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park near Edmonton and photographed both the species along Mallard, Coot, American Wigeon, and Lesser Scaup. As we were walking on the walkway, we heard a Sora. My friend saw it for a moment and then it really vanished among the bullrushes. We waited for over half hour but no luck!! I guess next time! I have been enjoying your videos and suggestions. Thanks for an awesome channel. Mrinal Das, Edmonton.

Nice images, video and area you are in. Just want to give you a tip for birds in water try to get as low as possible. Because you look for them less a threat because your legs are gone less human. And you get less detail in your surroundings then you will create a nicer bokeh and the bird will pop out.
