    Because you didn’t take a shot doesn’t mean it’s a waste of time. You have gained a piece of knowledge which will help you out in the future, thanks for showing this, it’s an honest video, thank you 👍

    I can really relate to these conditions! I can’t wait to retire and take advantage of our rare winter sunny days. At least my boss understands if the sun comes out, I may take a spontaneous vacation day to shoot! I shoot with the RF 100-500 7.1, so I need a bit of light to get acceptable shots. I try to resist taking bad photographs sometimes. It takes discipline to just enjoy being out!

    Paul you have described my current conditions here in Toronto. Constantly cloudy, sometimes windy and about -8 to -12C. Your video is just what I needed to get motivated to get out and shoot no matter what. We do have access to water and a wide variety of birds so subjects are no problem. Just miserable weather. But hey, I’m going out anyway.

      I'm very happy to have motivated you! I honestly believe you can get decent pictures in any weather. The difficulty is often braving the weather. Take care out there.

    At the risk of causing much spluttering into cornflakes and harrumphs of disdain, I like to use these sort of days to muck about with those seemingly taboo functions such as SCN and Creative Filters (Canon). And I'll also try and frame the more "monochrome" birds - especially swans, I love swans - with a view to converting to b&w birds-in-the-landscape type of shots. Sorry....

    Good point, Paul! Same conditions here in Ottawa. We have rarely seen the sun lately. Even when sunny weather is forecast and you arrange to go out with friends and shoot, it turns out to be overcast. Two days ago, we went anyway and I got one of my best shots in a long time. A male Cardinal had just lifted off from the snow covered ground, wings fully spread. I realised afterward that if it had been sunny, the photograph would have not been nearly as nice as it would have had harsh shadows right below the bird. Very glad we went out. Today it is still overcast and there is a windchill of -24C !! Hmmm....

    Yes , it's all about getting out there. I'm interested in all sorts with my camera so I might switch to landscape or urban in this sort of weather but you have to get out there. 👍

    I really appreciate this video as it shows that it’s not all about going out in perfect conditions - sometimes there are surprises and other times it’s just good practice opportunity. Your images of the mallards look interesting with their different expressions. We have the opposite issue in Alberta with -40C windchills for the last few weeks - thankfully it’s warming up.

      I'm glad you enjoyed it. -40C.. that is absolutely brutal! I can't imagine what that's like. But I bet everything still runs.. not like UK, lol. I'm sure you'll enjoy the warmer weather

    Have to agree, if it's not wind, rain thick grey sky, the frost and snow and more wind and rain due. The roads and footpaths are lethal round here following this arctic blast. Have done little photography. Hopefully improvement soon. Great video again Paul.

      I love the conditions we had the last few days, but it was quite tricky at times. Actually slipt on ice one day. Thankfully it wasn't a full on fall! Looks like back to normal weather tomorow..

    i’ve always felt that photographing when the weather sucks doesn’t lead to good photographs and I still think that’s true. We are having very bad weather in Florida this winter and it’s very disappointing.

      I generally prefer some sun, but I do actually like soft light for the detail in can give.

    Could you tell me how much Canon R6 IBIS is helpful for Canon 400mm f5.6 and lenses without image stabiliser please?

    • @PaulMiguelPhotography
      @PaulMiguelPhotography  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes, I think it does help. In my experience anyway. You just need to make sure it's on - it seems when changing lenses it can switch if off.. I think.

      I'm trying it for a while to see if it reduces rolling shutter. But also should have less vibration than mechanical.
