I’ll kill any hog with my 5.56mm and I’ve killed some big ‘uns. Got a huge sow at about 150 yards in the snow one day. She was huge; at least 400lb. I shot her twice but I think the second shot wasn’t necessary. I thought i might’ve missed her the first time because she didn’t move much … sort of swayed a little, dropped to her knees and rolled into her side. Dead as a doornail.
I might use a .338 WinMag to hunt grizzlies or rhinos … not that I would hunt grizzlies or rhinos.
Personally, I think we tend to go way too big most of the time. I don’t actually care. It’s your business. Even if you want to use a .458 Weatherby to hunt squirrels, go for it but I wouldn’t call it “the correct caliber.”

Umm, I have a lot of experience that says you’re wrong … and so is anyone who ignorantly disallows hunting hogs or small game with 5.56mm. It is more than adequate for hogs and small game. In Vietnam, Marines killed tigers with the 5.56mm. Any round that will take down a tiger is more than adequate for hogs and small game. However, if you feel safer or more manly using a .338 WinMag to hunt small game, I’m OK with it, just don’t try to blow smoke up my ass. It’s insulting. I’m a genuine expert on this subject.

He turned and smiled at everyone that's when we all started to laugh. It got up and took off .can say he did make the second one count.

I saw 5 Feral Hogs on a 2 lane road less than 20 miles from downtown Austin last week. In Texas, you can shoot them 365/24/7 without a Hunting License since they are considered non-native varmints and are nothing but destructive to the local ecology. Had it not been so close to houses, I would've emptied my .357Mag sidearm into them just for fun.
