    Thanks for the informative video. I'm preparing to change the serpentine belt on my sons 2001 sl2 so I figured I'd change the tensioner pulley and idler pulley as well. This will help me out a lot. Thanks.

    Get your tensioners from O’Reilly auto parts. They will also give you a shorter belt that is the permanent fix is the correct belt.

    "Ain't nobody got time for that"! I laughed mynass off when you said that! This was a great video! Most guys make you listen to a few minutes of music and fancy waste of time video, like they are a show on a tv channel, as well as always talk about what they already done to the car or what's in their garage, or what the weather is like today, blah.blah blah.. I watch these videos because I need to know how too!! And your video was precise and to the point with helpful suggestions and areas where u came across difficulties and how you over came them!! Awesome video! Thank you for sharing it!!!

    The Gates tensioner makes a hell of a difference, my Duralast specials make it super difficult to get the pulley on again after you install the tensioner. I've had to put the pulley on and ratchet strap the tensioner down wards to get the pulley bolt in again!

      Did you change the tensioner or belt? How does it not move? How did you get the old belt off?

    The tensioner I got doesn't even look like that. The bolt is recessed, which makes it impossible to just stick a 14mm belt extension bar down there.

    That's a funny weakness of ratcheting wrenches that can't be reversed. Like driving a car into a parking spot with no reverse gear, ha ha.

    I have a question. When the belt tensioner is free of the belt and I spin the tensioner by hand it makes noise. Is there supposed to be any noise in the belt tensioner?
    Thank you.

    I am replacing the same part with a Gates as well, and I notice the design doesn't mate the surface like OEM, leaving an exposed gap, just like yours.
    Any update of problems with this vehicle?

  • @TheCowgirlNiamh
    @TheCowgirlNiamh Před 6 lety +3

    The new pulley looked like a smaller diameter. Does that matter? Also, I'd be hard pressed to give you a thumbs down!! Never! :)

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  Před 6 lety +3

      I checked the spec sheet for the gates and it said 90mm , measured the old tensioner and it is also 90mm . Even it were a little smaller the tensioner would do it's job and take up the slack as long as it doesn't come in contact with anything. 👍

    So I have the same car same tensioner as your old one. The only one like that is ac Delco. Will anyone work as long as its compatible? I thought that if it is a grouped pulley on the side and replaced with groove pulley? The tensioner pulley on mine which looks the same as yours is a 76 mm that one you replaced with is a 90 mm one into size difference make a difference

  • @olenaerhardt7725
    @olenaerhardt7725 Před 4 lety

    In that new model of the Belt Tensioner can you remove the Pulley, like on the original one. I think it doesn't come off. I tried on a new BT I ordered (not original one) and the only thing you can do with that bolt on the pulley, it acts on the spring inside. Can you take it off?
