AMS2 INSANELY GOOD VR

  • After many weeks of tinkering I finally managed to find settings that allow me to play AMS2 in decent quality at decent framerate ànd capture a smooth video. I had to ditch NVENC and use X264 to capture straight from the game (and not SteamVR mirror) at a lower resolution, but the result is pretty nice!
    My stupid 3090 can barely render this at 90fps driving solo but luckily I have a Valve Index which has an 80Hz failsafe. I can use that for AI races like this with only the occasional stutter. Turns out AMS2 is pretty well optimised rendering AI so it can still maintain 80fps in wet races which is amazing.
    For this capture I set the Index to 120Hz and used quite high settings to force the GPU to render at half of 120 = 60fps. It renders every frame twice so it doesn't look good in the headset but it's a smooth 60. OBS only captures every frame once so it produces a smooth flowing 60fps video.
    NVENC is still broken but my 10900K does a good job using X264 at 720p.
    Enjoy!

    I agree. The Madness engine is one of the best out there. It is such a shame Slightly Mad Studios never got the appreciation of the community for it.

    Looks awesome! I still think AMS 1 feels in many situations a bit better, but AMS 2 improved a lot since it's first release. And they don't stop, they keep making it better and better.

      Hey man, thanks! I updated the description 🙂
      I have an Index.
      I never thought using 120Hz and reprojection to render 60fps would provide such a smooth video but here we are 😎
      Not recommended for daily driving but my machine can just managed a steady 80fps for these wet races, which is pretty smooth with the Index set to 80Hz. I use 90fps for solo driving and dry races. 120 is a bit too much to ask in AMS2, even on a 3090 ☺️

    Oh man! I think this video has just convinced me to finally get into sim racing!! Sorry for the stupid question but in terms of graphics quality is this what you can see inside your headset or does it only look this good on the video capture?? How come this is by far the best vr footage I've seen? (When I watch about 25 videos a day I mean!)

    • @RemcoHitman
      @RemcoHitman  Před 2 lety

      Thanks! Yeah man the capture is from the VR feed that's sent to the goggles (just one eye though). I spent a lot of time getting the best capture settings, to have high quality at a perfect 60fps. I used 120Hz in the headset and forced it to run at half the refreshrate (60fps). That gives a smooth capture most of the time 🙂

    Played it in VR yesterday and was getting great framerates on my 3070ti. Game is pretty tough though and you have to really concentrate to stay on the track and one bump from the AI can send you out of the race. Is there a Le Man's track?

    • @RemcoHitman
      @RemcoHitman  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi, yeah I did change the visuals a little bit come to think of it. In SteamVR settings, there's a setting for image brightness in the headset, I had that at 90% for this race for that extra gloomy look. Hope it helps!

  • @icarustheseamusic2910

    Is the camera not centered i the video or it wasn't when you were driving as well? Since if you consider compared to the realistic position, the camera is a bit off center, towards the right, don't you think? Is there a way to always have it centered and well calibrated?

    • @RemcoHitman
      @RemcoHitman  Před rokem +1

      This is because you have choose which eye to capture in VR. It's always either left or right from center. I always choose right eye for clockwise tracks so you see more of the track. In tintops I choose right eye for LHD and left eye for RHD so you feel more centered in the car.
