- The Pier New York 1986. Better quality version of Inwards, with Stuart halting the gig in mid-song to sort out crowd violence. Great to see such concern from the band, usually it's left to the bouncers to sort out while the band plays on.
- Hudba
stuart adamson, the best song writer and guitarist that ever walked this land../
.i.p big man.
glad to know fans still exist. Inwards was absolutely shocking to me in late 1984 when I first heard it. It was the first real anthem song to my mind and one that related to days of past, to heroes, to the working man, to struggle and strife, to the grand challenge of life. I was blown away, a poor 16 year old kid in Canada. Man, I grew up fast and BC changed by life, positively, forever. Stuart will always be with me.
mongo88now88 great tribute, I saw them live twice they were the best band I ever saw live.
Still saddens me today Stuart not being here but his music lives on, still have their music blasting out in the car going to work.
No one carries a sound like they do
Whereabouts in BC are you from?
WOW, have you ever seen a band interupted and then pick up where they left off like that? Unbelievable! now thats a BAND! i'm stunned to silence every time i watch this. Appreciate folks! one of the best live bands of all time.
moonster46 indeed it is
That is so true. This band was so tight!
This song was about a decade ahead of its time! A truly underrated classic. This should be on every "Greatest Songs of the 80's" lists.
Of the World, never mind the eighties, it is timeless, cheers.
Right on
I couldn’t agree more. One of the best songs of all time!! So is Fields of Fire!!
They had one of the best guitar tones around at that time! Loved that bagpipe sound. Still listening in ‘23❤
Stuart was happy, singing about strife. I don't listen to BC much anymore. Especially The Crossing or Steeltown. It's just too painful for me. Those records saved me and Stuart isn't here. I hope that Tony, Bruce and Mark look at these posts. When I was just turning 17, I purchased the Crossing. Strange how these posts don't as much reflect the 'when' as the 'what'. Hearing 'Inwards' when I was 17 was exactly what I needed to stay alive, especially later in '85.
mongo88now88 Thank you. Powerful and respectful and loving words shared.
Are You Mongolian, Just Curious, Great Post Top Fella.
I was there right up front. Still trying to find me. The problem was with the bouncers vs the fans. Their was 3 at least three fight during the show. Stuart calmed things down for a bit by stopping the show. Outside of this it was the best concert I've been too. THANK YOU!!! FOR PUTTING THIS UP!!!
Big Country is the only band to calm my son when he is upset or sleepy. Love them loads!
This is mind blowingly good. :-) Most underrated band ever in my opinion.
Saw these and Stuart said " what a lovely little place you have here derby". He got the place bouncing.I miss Stuart Adamson and I miss big country
we are so lucky to have so much quality live footage from this band on you tube checkout there early live barrowlands concert like this fantastic
Absolute class act, all the way. Rest in power big Stu
I was there with my future/current wife and remember this!! He jumped off the stage because of some commotion!! I also have the video!!
Charles and Denise Moscatello I would like to speak with you and your wife
Your wife has excellent taste in music--my Dad is a huge Big Country fan also, y'all remind me of him!
Broke that fight up.search on hereforThe Seer NYC 1986 you lucky dogs! I was away at USAFBasic
Charles, Current?
Bought The Crossing when it came out, the spirit of this band has stayed with me since. Big echo, big epic, they are their own.
From 2:23 ... that middle section... insanely beautiful.
I am impressed with their live performance - never knew they had such band energy as a whole, and love Stuart's athletic jumps. He looks natural doing it.
Orchestral!
True and also the opening of this song...the run up...is mind blowing
When they jump into that main riff...will never forget the first time I heard it n many years later it still kills
...ridiculous level of talent with this man Stuart
how beautiful is Stuarts solo during the breakdown...worth the concert alone..watch Tony lost in Adamsons flights..amazing
I might be mistaking when Stuart stopped playing and went to the crowd was that Jeff Healy that was speaking to him before he spoke to the guy with the beard he was such a class act it was absolutely brilliant how he continued to play the rest of inwards thanks for sharing never seen it before brought back many good memories of them playing the capitol theatre in Aberdeen on New Year’s Eve what a great way to welcome in the new year 1993 🏴👍😊
The tone of those guitars and bass, and the precision of the drum hits makes me really miss this band
本物のライブバンドですね。素晴らしい~。
Absolute legend of a man. Rest In Peace Stuart..you are never ever forgotten.x❤️
If Stuart Adamson was still around he would still be making music like this.
How after the interuption can you just restart the song so perfectly.
Music is sadly not like this anymore.
Rehearse, rehearse and rehearse again. That's what professionals do.
He didn't hardly stop and had a good laugh about what happened. Absolute legend.
An underappreciated classic, the best song on the album, and that is saying something. Great band. RIP Stuart
sounds so much better live, love you Stuart!!
Superb, Classic Adamson solo here. The way they pick the song back up as though nothing had interupted the performance just shows what first class musicians they were / are.
Thanks for putting this up and sharing.
WOW! How tight is that? The best version ever.
My love for Big Country started when I bought "The Crossing" in 1983 and it hasn't gone away since, unfortunately I never saw them live.......😢
Great band,
Rest in peace stu.
These guys were just freakin' awesome!
Mark, Bruce, Stuart and Tony. Thank you for sharing your songs with us. This song takes me back to the BC gig at the Birmingham NEC in December 1984, i had only days before become a father, now that child has made me a grandfather, where the f*@k have all the years gone?
This is immense!!!!
For years Stuart was one of my musical idols, with his contributions to a book called "Play Rock Guitar Now!" being one of the most important things I ever learned.
Seeing him here shows that there so much to look up to him for.
Stuart Adamson: An amazing musician and an even better human being. May he live forever in his music and in our hearts!
It's mind boggling how these guys weren't more than a one-hit wonder here in the U.S...how could it be that at least a few more songs didn't make it here? I like that in this video Stuart immediately stopped at the sight of something not appropriate going on in the audience...kinda sexy.
@mongo88now88 Beautifully said Mongo. You articulated better than I could have what this band and Stuarts music has meant to me and will always mean to me. Cheers from California.
so powerful live, wow. this debut blew my mind as did many in the 80s. the decade when great music went underground.. forgotten debuts, the hurting, soul mining/burning blue soul, two wheels good and this.
and rattlesnakes
Good man Stuart!
I could see it in his face the moment he realized how rowdy some in the crowd had become, and I admire that he stopped to do something about it..
RIP Stuart. You left us all missing you.
From 2.25 to 4.07, pure musical bliss, stunning, majestic, superb, I wore THIS part of the tape out.
THIS is Big Country. Stay Alive!
Amazing. It looked like it was the scene of a movie or something! :D
Stu we still love you, forever with us ,Big Country Fans unite
Awesome. Would've loved to have seen this band live.
3.18 - 3.38... the greatest 20 seconds of guitar playing ever!!!!
wonderful
Wow, a great song done exquisitely live!!!!
Wish I could have been there!!!
Thanks you for posting this gem!
Yes, I was at this show at the Ritz on 11th Street, NYC. Fantastic night, can't remember the other band 🙏
Love how they can just start again like that
It’s so hard for me, huge BC fan since USA ‘83, to say which tune is most Rippin’-but this is definitely it or tied as such! A Survival Song!
the Best in 100 years.
Just seen them tonight in Sunderland and god bless them they acknowledge Stuart Adamson 2024
Only saw this band play live once...and this was the gig. Legendary as were many of those summer time gigs at Pier 86 in NYC (owners of the new condos built in the are had a big influence on killing this venue).
RAMBR0 how many people were in the venue? Did they play 1000 stars here?
Big Country are without a doubt the best band to come out in the last 45 years!!!
Oh Yes Jon.J in Total Agreement, A Rocking Guitar Lyricist Legend. Loved Him, So Missed.
Hello 2021, I still remember this clip so searched it up :)
Haha, back again, no one else cares :P
oh the memories the best gigs i was ever at,sadly will never get to experience them live again,it was a pleasure and a privilege
Watson is a machine!
I agree..sooo underated
@@cejannuzi Also is true
I came to the Stuart Adamson party late. My issue. What a presence.
wouldn't want to home on a night like this lucky people
Dec 3rd 1986 Avoniel Leisure Centre Belfast BC concert. Amazing....
an oddity, dunno if it was part of the set or if the song created a fighting mood, but the very same thing happened at Glasgow Barrowlands on the tour that same year!
R.I.P Stuart, sadly missed
Big Country without Stuart is like Thin Lizzy without Phil. Im not saying he was the only important member but when your such a unique and original frontman and performer like them they cant be replaced.
god bless stuart adamson wherever his beautiful sole is now a legend that will be truly missed by so many
Well Done Mr. Adamson! Proud of You ;->
Again, I always come back to this capturing as this is what a man, a band of passion, compassion do: Just make you wake up and realize life in full.
rip big man miss u loads x
The first time I saw this, years ago when the video came out, I was struck by how quickly Stuarts face drops when he realises whats happening. Such a concerned look. I couldn't stop watching it. I think I wore that part of the taoe out. I wish it would come out on DVD.
I have heard before that Bruce used to get annoyed with SA for stopping songs and other things, but hey, there were in a band for the best part of 20 years, so they're allowed the occasional spat.
Best Band for me opinion 80' fantastic
beautiful man, RIP Suart Adamson.....
Saw them twice in the mid 80's amazing times, best memories x
My god just effing magnificiant!!!
Man what was the crowd on? Constant fighting! This was Big Country at their best. Unacceptable that certain hooligans in the crowd were disrupting this song.
Genius....
Old school 70s punk rocker...but Big Country were untouchable live...the Crossing top 10 Los of the 80s
thanks for putting this up:}
5:10 face change!
This was my very first concert. I was in the third row wearing a U2 Unforgettable Fire Tour Shirt...those were the days!
Just simply " BRILLIANT"
Tony Butler brilliant
The sound at the start 😍😍😍
Wow, Stuart. Brave man to jump into the crowd like that. Who the heck would start a fight at a Big Country show??
So happy for you, John! That's so cool, it was indeed my pleasure!
SA RIP pure brilliance
Nothing short of incredible
I love it. This song is speaking to me

Stuart A ..you did change the world for some of us PEACE.
Its such a shame that had to happen because this is the very best live version of this song, and so much better than the track!!
Brilliant
Thank God this is loud.
Who hasn’t felt like this???
Thanks for “Turnin’ it up to ELEVEN!”
