  • Welding Blind ?? Help! I Can't See When I'm Welding! Visibility during welding is probably the most important thing for a new welder. Are you new to MiG welding or flux core ? When I first started to weld I could never see what I was welding. Metal fabrication is a great hobby but can be very frustrating if you cant see what you are doing. Flux core welding is about the easiest welding process to learn for a new welder but we all seem to suffer from the same thing we cant see what we are supposed to be welding when we are learning. Sometimes it may depend on your welding helmet but more to the point it will be your welding technique. How to hold your welding torch has a lot to do with it because if you are on the wrong angle you are almost welding blind. Checkout my video and i will show you how i overcame my welding problems.

Cateract surgery cured my “can’t see weld” problem that slowly progressed after 60 years of welding.
I mounted a cheap LCD forehead flashlight on my welding helmet for use in dark areas, also pop riveted a thin leather curtain to the back of the helmet for working with the sun behind me.

I just looked at my plexiglass today. Also didn't know about recharging in the sun, assumed batteries were just replaceable. Thanks Pete!

All good tips, and I learned something new- been welding since the eighties- just tried the sidelight trick, and jeez, does it make a difference!!!- Old dogs can learn new tricks!!!! (just went to Bunnings and bought a LED '300w' rechargeable spotlight just for welding!!!! about thirty bucks...)- I dare say it will come in handy elsewhere, but for the welding it is great...
