The more you dig deeper into Lao culture, tradition and beliefs, the more interesting it becomes. Great videos mate.
After all this time, it's nice to continually be surprised by the depth of culture here.
Thanks Harry 🙏
@Duncan Donut Donut ,, I did some work for a NGO in Laos that repatriates trafficked women back to Laos. Their stories are all the same how they ended up working the bars in Thailand. Horrible stories and nothing to laugh at. Some of those girls are only 15 or 16.
@Duncan Donut Donut You are heartless. Go educate yourself.
An interesting neat village, full of the old culture rituals. The waterfall was kool....Kenno.....West Aust
Very interesting community and people. Thanks for another great video
A Great Cultural video Todd ! Life's an adventure & ur certainly living the adventure ! 😎👌
🤗🙏🏼!
Great video! It’s interesting , and educational as well.Thank you.
Take care.
Laos has a high culture since centuries ago. Maintaining the sustainability and balance of nature. Lao people are very friendly. The economy is advanced. Greetings from Indonesia. May the people of Laos always be healthy.
Greetings Manx 🙏
Great video mate. Always good to educate the rest of the world to how other people lives. Looking forward to the next video!!
Excellent video,fascinating village. Thanks.
That was a great 👍walk 🚶♂️& talk. Thx for posting!
Great Video Village so clean.
Think how beautiful the People are .
We can learn a lot from them
Interesting culture and nice people.
what a great video and village people
Very cool brother... Very different!
I remember Neenee had her video up sometime ago about this village and I had questions about some of the things I saw in that video. I never got a response, but this video answered those questions. Very interesting people and culture. I am amazed at how clean and well maintained the village is compared to most other villages we have seen in your videos.
Amaizing place
Love wooden Village. Nice
Wow, one of the most remote villages I've ever seen. This is like an archeological documentary. Incredible. Immaculately clean. Beautiful homes all made from hardwood lumber. Friendliest people. Nicely done. I wonder how they have cell phone service up there.
That certainly was one of the most intruiging villages you have visited so far.......an absolutely fascinating view......the thirty minutes seemed like just five. 👍👍😊😊
Definitely going back for the celebrations next year mate. Something different indeed! 👌
Oh oh. What a lovely place/village. 🥰🥰🥰☺☺🙂😉😊😀😃☺🥰🥰
Todd, you put out the best videos I have ever seen on U Tube.I really look forward to your videos. Stephen
Thanks Stephen, I'm glad you're enjoying them mate 👍
Amazing !!!
One of your very best mate.
wow, what a clean and organised place. I didn't expect to see this. Their houses are beautiful.
amazing video
It's nice and clean village indeed
Love ur video thank you for sharing🥰
Amazing. Im so going there.
A lovely and informative video. Thanks for posting it. I travelled to southern Laos and to a Katu village a couple of years ago and was very moved by the experience. I thought your film was so rich and respectful. Please do keep doing what you are doing. Best wishes
Thank you, that means a lot Tony. Will do 🙏
Another great video mate. Thought you were going pull that massive cone for a minute 😉
The thought did cross my mind, but I was on a sugar free diet at the time 😝
@@NowinLao I had a puff of one in Vietnam and nearly passed out from the head spin!
What an incredible people. SO amazing
This village is beautiful and the construction is superior. Fantastic!
Hi Guys, A very interesting and wonderful video. Watching from the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Take care, Jim
Hey Jim.. great to have you along mate 👍
“ Clean & tidy “ - that’s what I was thinking whilst watching - Amazing village - well built homes , the sacrificial poles , dancing etc . Is fascinating - and that waterfall just down the street - special 👌👍🙏😎🇦🇺🍻
Each morning the villagers sweeping around the village to keep it tidy.
wow! brand new village but those house are still traditional and look clean very opening around the village
Interesting
Haha…lovin the water bong….
wow
Wow Todd that was a very unique experience. I’m not sure I could watch that hahahahaha but I guess this is their way of life and I respect that. Todd I have to thank you for all the videos because I am learning something I would never have learned. ❤️🇨🇦❤️ Cheers!!!
No problem at all mate, glad you're finding them enjoyable. Thank you for your feedback on my videos, it really does help 🙏
nice one
Video that yet supplied a new view of Laos and its people thank you as always.
Laos just keeps surprising me 👌
Thanks Geoffrey
What a awesome place ✌👍
Nice video.
Wow, I just love historical traditional homes. When I retire that’s the type of home I want to build. Thank you Mr Todd for bringing your screen to my Home Screen.
Bor pen nyang 👌
No worries 😁👍
Todd, a lot of what I see there reminds me of some Native American beliefs and practices. Especially seeing the totems and the dancing.
Well, the natives are Asian blood
Love watched lao culture .. From Việt Nam
I would love to one of those houses.. Thanks for your continual education!
Beautiful practical homes hey! 👍
It was very interesting and informative. I noticed how clean it was. Remote, but had electricity and the internet 😑. I was noticing that there were no older people, as an old person just wondering 🤔! I would love to visit a village like that. Nice and quiet and only the laughter of children.
Cool that they can hold onto their culture.
Great video, I used to live in a village called Bhan fann in North East Thailand very similar and people are just as friendly. Brilliant job well done.
Would've been a great experience mate.
Thanks
Super interesting discovery and great experience! Your videos always give me a taste of visits that I can do next time there 👍
I should say it's also easy to follow you on Google Maps, your films are showing enough details to get references on the areal photos, it's nice to refer to them at the same time.
That's really cool, never thought to do that. Thanks 🙏
@@NowinLao yeah and it was not the first time I did it, I remember following your route several times on areal photos 😊
Where did you find these unique random places in Laos.. Very interesting.
Nice to see. I have some Katu friends and lived in the same house with them also for a while in Pakse a long time ago. Still have contact with them and visited the village they're from several times. Quite easy to understand a fair bit of the Lao some of the Katu people in the village are talking because they talk slowly and easy (it's their second language).
Good you went there and show this as well. In the end about 40 to 50% of the people in 'Pathet Lao' (the land of the Lao) are not really the 'land of the Lao' people but of many other ethnic groups :-)
I thought Dennis Hopper was gonna come out and photo the ritual sacrifice. Interesting.👍
Great video guys, could you's tell us what type of wood are the houses made from ? Take care ❤😊
Very Kewl indeed!
Happy life
I don't comment often, but, I watch all of the videos. I am currently living in the USA. But, i will be moving to Thailand in February, 2022. Everytime I hear you speak of traveling with some of your viewers, My wife and I think of how great that would be. In turn, we would be happy to host you and NeeNee for a similar tour through Isaan, Thailand. Even if this doesn't happen, we look forward to meeting the two of you during a visit to Laos.
Hey Jim and Mrs Jim... I hope everything goes to plan for you. Wow... Just realised that is only 7 months away. Laos will probably still be closed then...
We will catch up one day... It will happen 👌
Take care guys
This chanting and rituals are very much similar like here in South Africa. I'm about to relocate to Asia, I also took initiative to learn some basics in various Asian languages.
I love those teak? houses. My sister and brother in law live in a very similar type in Mae Sot. The inside however is very modern. Struth mate, fancy trying to hide that smoking gear from your mum and dad.
Also ancestor worship.
The baci ceremony has roots in Animist traditions.
I noticed lots of rice drying. I don't see or hear any birds. Is this unusual? I would think birds would be eating the rice. Not even the chickens were bothering it. Very beautiful village. Awesome video. 72 and learning!
Good Moo nay ing....
Good moaning Billy Boy 😁
"Don't take lollies from strangers", LOL
😲✌
Jeeze thats wild, I had no idea Animists still existed, another interesting thing I remember reading about Laos years ago was a tribe up in the mountains somewhere that has Blond hair, the pics ive seen were young kids but yeah Blond hair, its a bit of a mystery, no idea where it was other than Laos mountain area.
15:55 That is the first Animist discotheque I have ever seen, fascinating Mate
I might take some lasers for it when we attend next year 😝👍
This is nice Town and it's good enough for lao .
I Don't mind if I can retire in good enough village.
💯💙🔥👍
So basically the town square building can become a Lao Rave Club. On another observation, I just saw a scientific test of buildings in China (primarily in the Beijing Forbidden City area) that used this form of wooden construction with pillars free standing sitting on the stone. The tests were to see how these structures faired under various strengths of earthquakes. They were amazingly resilient because the structures could shift and react to the quake forces. There is good science behind these construction techniques.
I just found this clip😁😁
My really good friends, the Weaving Sisters (Facebook Page) are Katu. Mone and Doi and their 5 incredible backstrap weaving sisters. They are in South Laos again now but Mone and Doi live in Luang Prabang usually and sell the beautiful fabrics to the tourists (currently non-existent as you know). Would love to travel there with you maybe 2023 in reality. Lots of love to you both 💕
I was blown away Pari by how rich in culture these people are. To be honest, I had never heard of them before entering the village. Most definitely won't be our last time visiting. Would really like to visit their old village up in the mountains also.
Yes, travel here is not looking good for a while yet. Take care 🙏
7:19 That sign:
ຕົວແທນຂາຍປະກັນ Insurance sales agent.
Excellent Video.
Somehow I knew you'd be able to help me out. No matter how boring the sign turned out. Thanks Nick, hope you're well over there 👍
@@NowinLao We're enjoying UK summer! 24C at the moment - just like being in Laos on a cold day! sok dii falang
The people of Laos look very much similar to my people, the Mizos from Northeast India. Because we are all Asians and we are brothers and sisters 🙏
Hey Todd,,what an amazing place. The building style is so practical and commonsensical for homes in a hot climate. I love it! The kids dont seem as shy as some places. The one little girl when the 2 men were water bonging it,,she was a strikingly beautiful little girl,,kind of fragile looking,,,but I bet in reality, she was tougher than an entire rugby finals team. I'm with you brother,,that entire village was very clean and organized,,cool looking homes with rocking underporches
Yep, "underporches" works 👍
Learnt a new word today. "Fon lin". It means, not heavy, nor light constant rain. Not letting up. (Fon by itself is rain). The wet season is well and truly here mate. This is about the 5th day straight of rain, but today it is not stopping. Love the wet season here, you know that. Mainly because you can enjoy it without being miserably cold like it usually gets when it rains back in Oz. It's currently sitting at a comfortable 24 degrees Celsius. I'm out on the patio (porch to you guys) taking it in enjoying my morning coffee and trying to respond to some of the great subscribers that I have.
That's awesome you had a great trip mate and dad enjoyed himself. I really enjoy those aimless type drives where great food is involved. Say hi to the ol' boy for me will ya, and be sure to squeeze some more in with him. Take care of each other, ok.
Todd
Good life in Laos
What type of wood do they use to make the houses?
27:00 The Cookie Monster strikes again==Or in Aussie, 'The Cookie Mate'
The village is tidy because there's no western junk wrappers and packaging
Their clothing is Western. Perhaps they're just a tidy people.
Mate I sacrifice my liver every Friday at the Golf Club bahhha , now that makes me very happy ,
Thank you for your sacrifice Gordo.. you're a good man 😁
Can you research Lao Occult themes more? It would be interesting
i've witnessed pretty much same sacrifice ritual way back in late 1980 in southern vietnam
We have Montagnard Katu live in Central highland what they called today Central highland Vietnam , love Katu Laos ,we lost brothers, sisters . In Central Highland is home of Montagnard indigenous we have 30 tribes such a Jarai , bahnar , bru , S’Dang , Katu , bunong, Rahade , k’ho , Chru ……. We play gong , drink rice wine
Reminds me of that scene in apocalypse now... killing the Buffalo
Lol,,true dat
I am Laos, when I visit Laos in 2006, I heard human sacrifice was practice in the past.
Lao is same to same as north east state of India
Lowland Laos was part of Greater Siam until the Paknam incident (Colonial-French land grab by gunboat diplomacy) of 1893.
Thats wsup 😅
I'm from laos
Hi 👋
smook on the wather*deep purple in lao*
... Is it legal to smoke Opium in Laos? It should be, Because it is a good plant medicine.
Some times I worry about you Joe 😐
It is not Opium, it is tobacco, I am katu Ethnic they are katu too
Similar to my Hmong cultural.
This is not a poor village! It must have had some assistance of some kind! It looks planned too, with an open road in the middle n houses aligned. Would b nice to get background info!
I thought I saw a reply, but cannot find it now!
Wow! This is an observation of mine only! Im a Lao Australian, n proud of it! Such attitude by the replier! Good luck with videos, I am no longer a follower! Bye.

I stuffed up my comment. Sorry Tod and Neenee.
That Lao boy cute lmao
Todd do you eat old ox gulasch I think young be ok but old no good
I love the smell of dead buffalo in the morning. Feels like ... breakfast carnivory.
There is a house in New Orleans they call the rising sun, & it's been the ruin of many a poor boy & God I know I'm one:)
I am surprised that the young man speaks English as well as he does. He very likely writes even better, as is the case with so many students. Where did he go to school? Is there a larger city with a good high school in the area? Perhaps his family could afford to send him away to a city to study. These are rhetorical questions, of course.
Here in Thailand, many English teachers cannot even carry on a basic conversation in English. If the teachers cannot speak English, the students surely will not be able to acquire greater facility than the teachers. Regrettable.
Nope. I don't know what a bong....I mean that water pipe is...
Yeah mate.. 😐
