  • Today I am switching from Tidal to Qobuz as my primary streaming service. Here is an explanation as to why I made this choice.

    Quite interesting, I also switched from Tidal to Qobuz a while ago. For me the main reason was the combined offer of streaming and buying hi-res music at a discount.

      I noticed very slow download speeds when I purchased music on Qobuz. I noted a better interface on www.hdtracks.com/

    Nice insight. I experience the same with Spotify over others. I feel like spotify is fatiguing ? It's something I notice only after a while. Spotify seems also slightly less vocal forward, more bassy which makes my listening gear even less vocal forward. Could it be the reason or am is it psychological ?

      It's all of the above. Your brain gets fatigued because it can't sort out the unnaturalness of the sound processing it's being asked to do. This can indeed be from frequency response characteristics as you say, but also desynchronisation of the sound waves which can be especially bad in the 320kbps music which is FAR WORSE than CD quality and has all kinds of fake digitalisation. Think of it like pixels on a low resolution screen, they can't make the image naturally.

    • @Studio3BRocks
      @Studio3BRocks  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Thank you... agreed, mp3 quality forces your brain to make up the missing info which is tiring over time.

    Mmmm ok, so does hi-res music quality depend on the artist or the streaming service? Or both as in comparing Tidal and Qobuz? I am just starting my journey and so far I see the artist i like not having much hi-res audio (only using Qobuz). Does that depend on the artist (record co) or is that Qobuz? Can the streaming service make CD quality hi-res? And if so is it true high res or upscaling?

    • @Studio3BRocks
      @Studio3BRocks  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Good question I hope it’s more than upscaling

    So how fast does your connection need to be without roon to downsample for me or whatever? I am thinking of dumping Tidal, but I live in a small se asian village, internet is not as good as what you have, I can get like 1mbps (megabyte) to 1.2

    Do you have a source for that listening fatigue?

    • @Studio3BRocks
      @Studio3BRocks  Před rokem

      Usually happens when listening to lossy audio. Your brain tries to fill in the missing frequencies which gets tiring over time.

      @@Studio3BRocksbut i just found qobuz also have some fatigue song, compare this song in qobuz and tidal (on my own - ashes remain). In qobuz, the synth freq isnt load as in tidak like they lost huge of this frequency

      Tidal was instrumental in the MQA scam. Even if Tidal now have ditched MQA they still haven't answered or taking responsibility for what they have falsely claimed in the past. I think Tidal should go under together with MQA.

      I appreciate the high res for what I can hear from it. But also I like peace of mind knowing the source is top quality. You can always transcode down for more lightweight streaming.

      If you don’t have the quality gear, don’t pay. iPhone with wireless earbuds is fine for free music streaming and you’ll likely not not be bothered. But if you want to hear the difference- plan to buy serious nice hi-fi equipment and about $10000 later, $15/mo isn’t so bad 😂

    I used to use tidal first for a year or so then went to qobuz stayed for 5+ years, I tried to give tidal a second chance and got 3 months free, and I instantly canceled my 3 months free subscription since tidal just isn't my taste. Qobuz way better for me, the drums and vocals sound better and had a detailed clean sound for me compared to tidal. Tidal sounds a bit warmer but overall muddy compared to qobuz..... some say qobuz music gets fatiguing i dont see this at all. I use amps and headphpnes an dont really get fatigued.

      Reports that MQA is a scam are themselves a scam that got started from some people misunderstanding some valid warnings and critiques that got exaggerated way out of proportion by people who don't understand what MQA is at all. This is literally under study now as a psycho-hysteria movement similar to how large groups of people convinced themselves to drink poison koolaid to jump on a comet. It's one of the greatest hoaxes in history and it's sad to see it happen to MQA. Which anyone with a good audio setup can clearly hear is better than CD quality.

    MQA... It's a joke. I have heard many explanations for what it is. Master Quality Authenticated. That means approximately zero. Did they use the 2" tape from the studio.... Who knows. In any case, Qobuz is a clearly more honest service. They also have a Club now.

    Tidal is okay if you’re really into hip hoppy black music, but if not you’ll find there is no way to block out their suggestions (page after page), pretty irritating after a month. Obviously you can search for what you’d like but if 100% of your time has to be on the search screen then why not put it on front …simple like Google. I do enjoy Motown and other black artists, but Tildal isn’t for me.

      This is simply not true, @nomomomo5422 . Go to your HOME in upper left. There you will see: My daily discovery, New albums for you, Suggested Albums, My new Arrivals, and Dig Deeper. This is not one but FIVE different ways to explore music adjacent to what you like, each with a twist and totally up to you to explore how you want to explore and expand based on your listening tastes.
      You are talking about the EXPLORE page which is a completely different animal. There, you will see default suggested solely on your geolocation. Perhaps you live near Oakland or Detroit, I don't know. But even then, the EXPLORE page is still usable if you simply click one of the GENRES tabs below those defaults, then you're right into taste-based exploration again.
      Finally, if this weren't enough, Tidal has Radio-Mix on by default. Any track you play, when finished, will create its own "Radio Station" with a mix of songs similar to what you just heard. (Assuming it's not part of a queue or playlist or album, in which case it will go to the next track in that list/album/queue.)
      PLEASE, in future don't spread hateful misinformation. Tidal is simply the best HiRes streaming platform for discovering new music based on what you already like.
      Qobuz is a trendsetter in providing HiRes FLAC and competition is good for all of us. So I have nothing against Qobuz and wish nothing but the best for them and their subscribers. Indeed the competition is likely what caused TIDAL to release HiRes FLAC on its platform just yesterday. NOTE that this means everything in this video is no longer valid, and TIDAL now has a larger selection of music and better navigation/UI/lists/discovery services.
