Good , clear, concise points. I especially like the instructions on 4 lo, going in and coming out.
Very informative! Had no idea about being in neutral firstborn 4L! Thank you!
Love this! This was my suggested topic and the 4lo explanation was simple and informative enough! Thanks so much!
I just bought a 2017 Wrangler Sport and I'm studying up. Thanks for the info and I'll look at more stuff. You have a wonderful family!
This is the best explanation i've been able to find thank you! Buying my first jeep this week!
Prepping for a Mauna Kea summit drive where we will need to use 4L on the descent. Awesome and clear explanation of how to use it. Thanks!
Thank you so much I love all your videos
Just the video I was searching for, very well explained. I have never been off road and I have 4x4 this year....thanks for your video.
Thanks for this! Your kids are awesome!
Best video up for beginners!
Liked and subbed. Just bought a 2023 Gladiator Rubicon to take the grandkids for rides int the summer with the roof off.
So helpful, thank you!
Great information for beginners!
Great knowledge!
Love videos that are informative and straight to the point
Ty. 😊
Nice info. Had no idea the ratios were not the same on some models. I know the axles and diffs are different but that was some news :- ) Thank you
You're welcome 😊
Good job
Nice video. I would say though, I have been driving on the deepest sand beaches of Hatteras Island since I was old enough to drive. Always 4 HI. I have never used 4low. No one that knows beach driving uses 4low on the beach.
Thanks for the information for us newbeeies..
Thanks for the video!
Your welcome. Glad you enjoyed it! 😉

Your welcome. Glad it's appreciated. ☺
You all have really been helping me out with my new Jeep! Question: Do you have a video on using the uphill assist? Thank you!
Are you talking about the decent controls on the center console? I do not... but I can... lemme see what I can do
Loved the one too. Your family looks great! I would have recommended not only mention of the use cases for lo and hi, but the differences in what they're doing to the transmission vs. 2WD. I'm sure I can find videos elsewhere for that, but it would have been a nice addition.
I can see that, maybe getting a little deeper, though I was trying to keep it simple. FYI though, 4hi or 4lo does not do anything to, or change anything in the transmission itself. These are part of a separate unit, the transfer case, that in 4hi, changes the direction of power from rear wheels to fronts also, and 4lo, simply multiplies the gear ratio already set in the transmission..... hope that helps. 😀 And yes, my family is great, and they love doing these videos with me when they can..... in fact, the next release was my daughter's idea, and so much fun... you'll watch it twice. 😉
@@JeepingForBeginners I wouldn't get _too_ deep in the mechanics. There are places to go for that. But, in the interest of, "know your Jeep," I think a general understanding of what's going on behind the scenes would be useful. But that's also coming from a non-mechanic (I did replace the radiator in my 2WD Cherokee about 15 years ago, but beyond that, I haven't done anything mechanical on cars, and that was only because cost was an issue at the time).
Great video!
Thank you! I am so glad you enjoyed it! 😀
Very nice
I took my Jeep out for the first time using a manual Jeep. It definitely struggled on the first hill couldn’t get up. My ignorance didn’t allow me to put the Jeep on 4L 2nd gear I had it in first and still didn’t climb.
Very good
So I have stick shift Jeep Wrangler, how do I use the 4L and 2L?
When do I put the jeep in 4h on snow and ice? Is it before I start driving or after I take off?
Great video...enjoying the whole series. Just bought our first Jeep. Can you do a video on deferential lock?
Like on the factory Rubicons? Or aftermarket?
@@JeepingForBeginners factory Rubicon 2021
Will do!
When I drive in 4H or 4L and turn the steering wheel I fe el like little stops in the front weels; Is this normal?
Nice video! I do have a question though, I've heard that the Jeep should be rolling under 5 mph to change from 4Hi to 4Lo while in neutral, but others say to have it in 4Hi at a complete stop and then change it to 4Lo while in Neutral. Which is it? Thanks
Although I have heard that you "can" shift under 5mph, the safest way is to be at a total stop. In both circumstances however, you have to be in neutral on the transmission.
Question? I own a 2016 Sahara Unlimited JK. Stocked. Presently, no modifications other than a 2.25 leveling kit. .now it's time for tires. Interest in toyo at3 35x12.5 Or toyo RTs. 35x12.5. Question what's the least lift in height I can get by with? Is it necessary to acquire a 4.5 setback wheel (minus ) 12 as you suggested in a video with a 3.5 lift? Or can I avoid buying wheels and use my stock rim and install a 305x70x18?
Preferably, I like your suggestion in video 35x12.5x17 with a 3.5 lift with wheels and 4.5 setbacks minus 12. However, just thinking about the cost of it all. 😢 My Jeep every day uses no rock crawling in Myrtle Beach SC. Just camping, overlanding on trails in Blue Ridge Parkway in which I found some optical questionable? Thanks
I am form the est cost I have my Jeep steps up differently and I never need 4wd I know how to drive
So would 4lo be ideal for driving on the beach where the sand is fresh and kind of rough
No… 4 L is only for deep desert style soft sand/ beach sand where you are getting stuck and cannot go after than 10 mph. Most often beach sand is compact enough to use 4H … if you’re bugging down in 4H that’s when you switch to 4L
This may be a really stupid question, sorry if it is, but can you explain how to shift into 4l and 4h on a manual transmission?
It's the same process. Both manual and automatic transmissions have neutral positions. With a clutch however, you have to be real gentle when shifting while in 4lo.... usually just pick a gear and stay there.... where as in 2hi and 4hi, you can shift through the gears like normal
Just wondering can I press the gas padel or brake while doing downhill in 4 LOW?
Of course, you still have full control of the vehicle.... just be careful with the gas, it will Rev up fast, and understand the brake will be harder then normal as the gearing is lower and it wants to go...but. lol.... practice makes perfect
@@JeepingForBeginners it's really helpful!
Can you shift 2H to 4H on the fly (in drive moving forward)????
Yes
❤
💯💯
In the city, and highways I am using 4w high. Which one are good for city road, and high way for which one?
On pavement, unless covered in deep snow, should only ever use 2wd. Never 4wd. You would destroy the system. Its a "part-time" assist, not a full time feature
@@JeepingForBeginners In my Jeep 2004 Cherokee, it has only 4Hi, N, 4Low, which one is better for the city and highway ride.
Seems you have the full time 4wd transfer case, so definitely the hi setting. 4lo is for low speed, low traction situations
If I have 4hi and 4lo, WHY would I need lockers? What do they do? Do I use them before, after or while I'm stuck?
I have a video on the use of lockers already in the works. But tell me Mikey, how often do you use your lockers? Lol.... im sure I've used mine less then I expected. 😌 lol.
And of course, I wish you were still in Vegas to help me demonstrate the differences in Jk lockers vs your JL lockers. 😉
@@JeepingForBeginners I've used them on the steep part of angels peak and cover cache. BUT...the switch looks really cool and it's red.. must be IMPORTANT!!!
Haha. Only in the JLs.... the switch in the JKs are purely utilitarian. Lmao
I just bought a 2003 Rubicon, manual trans. So when I am in 2H and want to go to 4H, it says you can shit on the fly, does this mean you don't even have to take it out of gear, just depress the clutch and pull the lever into 4H?
Likewise the manual says to shift into 4L, it's best to do so at 2-3 mph, the manual does not make the rest clear. Can I get the jeep moving in 1st gear, 4H, depress the clutch and shift into 4L with the gearbox is still in 1st gear, or must the gear box be also put in neutral.?
Thank you
Shifting on the fly in to 4wd can be done safely, while in gear, up to about 45mph. To shift into 4lo, should always be in neutral. Now if you are rolling slightly, it will still shift, but if you hear it grind, or feel it bind, come to a complete stop. I recommend that even thought the manual may suggest it is "safe" to engage like that, in the long term use, or a worn out transfer case, it is always safer to be in neutral, and at a complete stop.... 😀 😉 it's cheaper to stop and shift, then push the limits and need to buy or rebuild a transfer case later on....
@@JeepingForBeginners Thank you for that reply. So if you are in a manual transmission, you should still put the gearbox in neutral, depressing the clutch is not enough to go into 4lo?
Driving 4x4 is mot easy
can you put it in four wheel high while moving and at what speed?
Yes, in 4hi only, and safely up to like 30mph, truth be told, if you are traveling faster, you don't need the 4wd, though it is safe to "use" up to 55mph
@@JeepingForBeginners thank you I just got my first Jeep and I've subscribed to your channel you've been a great help
Glad to hear. And don't ever be afraid to ask questions, or suggest anything you want covered as a topic. 😉

not manual trans.
That’s not true you can shift out of and into while moving … at least with manual transmission… not sure about automatic
