The Five Faces of New Pentaholics
    1. The most common is the Mitch Slapped. Commonly found when Mitch is heard for the first time in Hallelujah
    2. The Wide Eyed Look of Disbelief. Normally found when you hear their Wall of Sound. Found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Imagine, and Mad World.
    3. The I Didn’t Want It to End face. Most commonly found after listening to the 90s Dance Medley. It can also be found after listening to all their medleys and evolutions.
    4. The Teary Eyed Look. This is commonly found when listening to an emotional song of theirs or just the sheer beauty of their work. Commonly found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Hallelujah, Amazing Grace, Imagine and most especially Thank You.
    5. The What Did I Just Hear Face. Happens when Pentatonix starts strong, or when you hear a really special note or Kevin sound. Is usually accompanied by rewinding the video or song to make sure your ears really heard what they heard. Those times are too many to list, but the most common rewind at the start moment is the beginning of Sound of Silence.

I know what you mean. I've seen reactions from men who look, shake their heads and then make a remarkable comment. People are so mechanical these days it's hard for them to imagine other humans with such a degree of talent as all in Pentatonix. Even Freddie Mercury RIP and all of Queen. I watched a first time reaction to first listen to Bo-Rhap just this morning and the man was left shaking his head saying, "they changed up 3 times bruh...THREE Times". YES they did.

This is a cover of the first rock opera ever recorded (1975) and it almost didn't make it onto Queen's album because it was too long for radio play. (Obviously radio made an exception) I still shudder at the thought of what we would have missed if Freddie hadn't told the execs "NO Bohemian Rhapsody, NO album".

I'm stunned after hearing you say how much you love 70's and 80's music, how it is the seed of music today and you don't know Queen? Their music spans decades. Bohemian Rhapsody was one of the first music videos. The story behind the song ever getting on the radio is legendary and put Queen on the map. This cover has to be the best that has ever been done and it had been done countless times. PTX and Queen are two of my passions. They both are beyond amazing.
The do, do, do's PTX sing in this are the piano notes played in the original. Mitch does a mind blowing homage to Freddie Mercury's legendary voice. My two favorite musical phenomenons blended together nearly made my brain melt!!!

@mrelixertv Just a little side note. One of the members of Queen is now an astrophysicist. The shooting stars that pass across the sky are an homage to him. There are a total of four shooting stars representing the four members of Queen. There are tributes and homages like that throughout this video. The sofa is in remembrance of the sofa they sat on while doing the planning of their early releases in the apartment shared by Kevin and Avi. The three, meaning Scott, Mitch, and Kirsten, were in the middle of the couch because they were from Texas, in the middle of the country. Avi, who they got through a suggestion from a friend, was from the west coast near Los Angeles. He is sitting on the left sofa arm at one point near the end or the west coast arm of the sofa. Kevin, even though a California boy by birth, was a grad student at Yale when Scott saw his work on a CZcams video. They invited him, and he came from school, arriving basically on the day of their first episode on SingOff from the East Coast. He is sitting on the right arm or East Coast arm of the sofa. There are a slew of such homages and remembrances like that in this video.

If you don't know this song then you are missing a completely other level of genius. When this came out I went back and listened to the original and can verify that they are exactly replicating everything from the original - from the bum bums at the beginning "playing" Freddie's piano intro accompaniment through the famous guitar solo, the operatic section, the head-banging guitar in the rock section to the heavenly harmonies at the end with meticulous attention to detail including the drum and bass. This is absolutely an homage to the original that even most dyed-in-the-wool Queen fans who've heard it can recognise and enjoy. And that includes Brian May. There's no stronger endorsement than that.

I only took a cursory check at all of the comments so this may be a repeat. Please react to, or at least watch on your own, the official video of bohemian rhapsody done by queen. It needs to be the official video. Pentatonix stays very close to the song But with their own flair. There is a behind the scenes video for bohemian rhapsody. Pentatonix does do behind the scenes videos for some of their songs. Bohemian rhapsody is considered the greatest rock song ever written and I concur. It would take
pages to talk about the song but only know that it is a masterpiece that I have Never heard anyone repeat it. The guitar solo is actually one of the most famous guitar solos ever. O
The guitarist is Brian may who's actually a astrophysicists As a fall back career in case music didn't work out LOL. At the end Of the video They show the night sky with 4 shooting stars. This is to pay homage to the fact that Brian may is an astrophysicists. I always wondered why there were 4 stars not 5 since there are 5 members in Pentatonix. Then I read in a comment that it was to pay homage to queen (Another rabbit hole you need to go down) Since there are 4 members of queen. Brian May was so impressed with this cover that he put it on all of his social media sites. You cannot get a better endorsement than that.

I guess I'm showing my age here... I can hardly believe that anyone in the music industry has not heard of the iconic rock song Bohemian Rhapsody, the earth-shattering British rock band Queen and the masterful singer, songwriter and performer Freddie Mercury, who wrote and performed this song back in 1975. Before your time, I guess. Still, the group, the singer and this song are absolute rock legend, and well worth checking up on, if only for your own information. Pentatonix waited years before they dared try covering this historic song, because they really wanted to do it justice, which, if you watch the original, you will see that they certainly have done, retaining many elements with their own unique style. They also paid homage to Queen in subtle ways, like the star-scape sequence during the second guitar solo, which is a nod to Brian May, Queen's lead guitarist, who also has a doctorate in Astrophysics. And the couch cuddle in the outro, which copies the record jacket of Queen's Sheer Heart Attack album. I really do appreciate how much you recognize the skill and creative genius of Pentatonix, who I would put in a similar category of culture influencers as Freddie and Queen, since they've brought a cappella into mainstream in a way no one has before. Bohemian Rhapsody was often billed a rock opera, and was notable for its lack of repeated chorus... truly innovative at the time. Apologies for my wordy comment. This is my era, and I love to reminisce! Thank you for taking on a project outside your wheelhouse. Always here to share Pentatonix with you!

I definitely don't mind answering lol love the question...so it basically has to do alot with not only our culture but our lack of openness to the world of music at 1 point and time ..here in the Bahamas our culture mostly relates to soca n calypso and reagge music alot because of how closely related we are now thank God for technology and access to global streaming we can have access to alot more but even then at one point and time because of our location we still was unable to access certain music on different platforms because our location was not recognized..for example think of like cash app ...we can't even download cash app here in the Bahamas lol same as features on Instagram and Facebook they are blocked here but as soon as we go to the USA and we now using your roaming service everything opens up fully ...so that's what kind of hindered us here when it came to music even finding about new artist would be a challenge because it would not be available to view nor listen to from here .....if that makes any sense lol hope I was a little helpful in answering your question

Your explanation makes sense though. It's sad to think of all the amazing songs and artists you've missed out on. Unfortunately because they do so many covers, like this one, AND are an a cappella band, the radio isn't interested in investing their time and money into this kind of music. THAT is why most people have never heard of them before. They've been around 10 years. Thank you for appreciating their talent. Better late than never!!! It will all make sense when you hear the original by Queen. There are a few guitar solos in the original they did with their voices.

    P
lease watch Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and even the movie by the same name. We lost the composer and lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury to AIDS in 1991. He was a musical genius as were all members of Queen. Freddie would have been 75 this past week. A rock song over 6 minutes long in the early 80's was unheard of.

You talked about the "Bohemian" part of the title in your intro. During the song, you repeated something like, "They switching it up. They switching it up!" That's the "Rhapsody" part. Rhapsody is an old musical term basically referring to several very different things building up a larger whole. Freddie Mercury of Queen had a broad musical knowledge, and he chose to combine opera and rhapsody elements into a rock song. It stands uniquely as one of the greatest rock songs ever for its broad approach to music.
