Sanath Jayasuriya 189 off 161 balls included 21 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 117 and is the highest individual score in ODIs by a Sri Lanka batsman.
Sri Lanka made olny 299 in that innings but 189 of those runs came off Jayasuriya's bat as he mercilessly plundered the Indian bowling attack to all parts of the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Sanath Jayasuriya 189 (161) vs India, Sharjah, 2000/01 is also the highest score by a batsman in an India vs Sri Lanka ODI match and is one of the the greatest one-day knock of all time.
As if Jayasuriya's 189 was not enough, the icing on the cake for Sri Lanka came in the second innings when India were all out for 54 runs only chasing 300 for victory, giving them a huge victory by 245 runs.

I am from India. In my school there were Indian Fans, Australian Cricket fans and South Afrian and Pakistani cricket fans. I use to stand odd always. I was Srilankan fan. I have formally quit watching cricket after retirement of JayaSuriya. No matter what it is, World was playing 50-50 Cricket and this man was playing 20-20 back in 1996. Beyond shadow of doubt the biggest entertainer in cricket history.

Indian here but Sanath was one of my all-time favorite ODI batsmen. Just a pleasure to watch, and once he got going he was unstoppable. I still remember this innings when he had time to get the double century but just went for it every ball. Even as a kid, after initial frustration at his brilliant batting, towards the end I remember cheering for him to get the 200 myself. It was very sad that he got stumped trying to hit another six by dancing down the wicket. I'm sure you Sri Lankans miss him as much as we do Sachin and Rahul.
