I worked as a helicopter technician on a french air base. I used to put Jet A in my VW 1.9 TDI (same flash point as diesel and waaaay cheaper as it is exempt of taxes). It cleans the injectors and pollutes way less so no problem passing the Motor Inspection. The only problem is that it is less oily than diesel, so the fuel pump is not properly lubricated and can deteriorate. I solved that mixing it with 2 stroke oil (about 2%).

Without even watching 5 minutes of this I know for a fact:
    - Methanol (racing alcohol fuel) requires a MUCH higher stoichiometry compared to gasoline. So simply putting it into a carbureted motor will never run properly. It will be massively lean. You cannot simply "jet up" either. You need a carburetor designed for alcohol.
    - AvGas is similar to racing fuel but is oxygenated to burn at high altitudes. It's high octane so it burns slower so it can be used in high compression engines.
    - "Jet fuel" is basically the purest form of kerosene/diesel/heating oil. So running that in an internal combustion engine designed for gasoline is nearly impossible.
Also, simply increasing octane without making changes to take advantage of it (increase ignition timing, increasing compression ratio), is rather worthless.

Jet fuel contamination is actually a major factor in engine failures in piston aircraft, particularly in light twins where fuelers are more likely to screw up and confuse them for turboprops. Jet fuel will absolutely ruin a piston engine, while something made for jet fuel actually might run (badly) on avgas.

That's because jets are turbines, they have a lot more flexibility in what you can run them on. The US military standardizes all its ground vehicles on jet fuel because it's not as flammable and is useless to most potential opponents if captured, but the jet turbines that the Abrams and our ships run on can actually burn just about anything.

One of the salesman said to the guy " Start it up Let's hear it" the guy replied " It don't even run ". Turns out he was an electrician that did some work for OCC and they gave him the bike in exchange for the money they owed him. Those bikes are for show only. Half of them are never ridden. The Harley dealer was bought out a couple years ago and is now Pocono Mountain Harley Davidson in Tannersville, PA. Ironically Rick Petco from OCC has a shop that was built in the new dealership. He does custom work for their customers when they purchase a bike from them. Now if you want to make that thing run take it to JD Cycles in Nazareth, PA. Dyno Dave is phenomenal with turning a bike.

Jet fuel is nothing special, it is clean kerosene with a few variations for certain aviation conditions.
Aviation gas is available in two grades 80 octane and if memory serves 101 octane ( hard to get it burning hard to keep it burning. I understand an 82 octane fuel is under development, Lots of people think the fuel is the source of extra power, not true the fuel allows other modifications that cause the increase in power. High octane simple means harder and slower burning. Internal combustion engines can burn any flammable substances it you can get it inside the combustion chamber in the correct volume. I have converted Ford , Chevrolet and Dodge engines to run on compress natural gas , the biggest problem in using CNG is the octane is very high resulting in lower power output. Raising the compression would have helped but that was not in the budget.

Turpentine for parasites is more common, and has the added benefit of inducing extreme mental clarity, due to it's dopamine and serotonin inducing effects, because it has Alpha-Pinene in it, a fancy Terpene that comes from pine trees. Turpentine is not an alcohol or a fossil fuel, it's actually produced entirely by the Pine Tree.. There's a massive cover up to stop people from buying or using Turpentine.

I use to watch orange county choppers those 2 would like remind me of my dad & my oldest brother all ways disagreed on little to nothing while chewing each other's azzes out till where I'd get scared till one of them leave and that'll be my big brother it got so bad that my big brother moved out as a teenager to live with my grandmother my dad's mother but never did they punched one another that I know of lol but yep Sr and Jr didn't get along good while I was around except when they go bowling in a tournament so as a child remembered this I gain a whole lot of respect to myself when my first son came into this world I've learnt how to not have the same relationship that my dad and brother did my first son is a Jr I'm Sr he's 22 going on 23 I've just turned 56 we have a good relationship with each other. Not once in his life time under my roof and out from under me on his own had I ever had to give him a spanking 😁 we got along great as much as I hated the way I had to see how father & son didn't get along good at times but it was a learning experience for me. Exactly, why didn’t they try diesel? What a waste of time. The AV Gas is only going to bump the HP if you run fairly high comp too.
Higher octane = less ping with high compression, but less energy per unit. One doesn’t run hi octane to make HP, one runs it because of low octane detonation/ pre ignition in hi comp applications. The lower the octane the hotter and faster the burn.
As comp goes up, HP goes up, the octane is there to allow higher comp, not make HP.
      It was a goofy experiment.

We use Avgas 100LL in our 2 stroke dirtbikes as a source of non-ethanol fuel, since we can't really buy non-ethanol fuel at the pump except in racegas (VP Racing) formulation and the AvGas at $5 a gallon is 1/2 the price. It runs absolutely fine, though I'm always thinking of driving one state over to get lower octane non-ethanol fuel to mix since higher octane fuels don't burn as well as lower octane fuels when the engine doesn't need the higher octane due to compression reasons.

I was a jet engine mech in military. Unlike some think, jet-fuel isn't anymore than çleaner kerosene, or deasil. Like unrefined gas. IT will mess up your engine if it isn't reeked and restructured to use jet fuel. You must tweak the fuel mix and or your motor. Go ahead, put straight jet fuel, or aviation fuel in your car or bike while stock. You will gum up , burn up and trash the works. A mechanics nightmare.
Alcohol straight , if you don't melt the works, you may blow it.
Try experimenting with a mix of clean bonny-light oil with everclear that has been strained. Then you have a chance on a good fuel. Be sure to use goo upper parts that can withstand abuse and heat. Or you may as well pour plain kerosene down the throat and get the gumming up over fast.
But don't disrespect an old Harley or Indian v-twin, sacrilege ! Your stuff, have fun.

Jet A is simply super-refined diesel. It burns really clean so if you run it through your diesel-burning engine it'll run very clean, but less oily, so you don't want to do that all the time. Diesel is designed to lubricate parts in your intake. You put that in a gas engine and you're gonna F that thing up royally.
AV-Gas is about 120+ octane, and burns super hot in your gas piston engine and is great for keeping your innards clean if you only burn a couple gallons per tank mix w/ reg. unleaded every once in a while. it will scorch your rings if you run it straight for too long. Also you need to adjust your timing, because it doesn't burn like 87/90 gasoline.
With Methanol- you can't just pump that through your engine and expect it to behave like gasoline. It's not even close to the same.

I was going to suggest throwing a little premix in when I heard those 'dry cylinders.' That was before the insanely low compression figures. Wonder what it was beforehand... Can't believe after all that money and 'custom work' that they would run a STOCK h.p. motor.. Why?!?! I used to make my own homebrew race gas by mixing toluene with some 93. You can get it at a store like Sherwin Williams. There is a chart floating around online somewhere with the ratios on it. This is only useful if you can tune/ advance the timing to make use of it and obviously it doesn't apply to everything in that sense. Otherwise it'll just keep it from pinging. In the end its cheaper than something like CAM2 or VP, but not as high in octane. You can get around 100 octane or so with the toluene/ super mix. Love the old Wurth cabinet! They make some AWESOME products. Nice pics from the scope as well. Thanks for sharing this.👍👍😁

As a pilot, the very *thought* of trying to run jet fuel in a piston engine (or gasoline in a turbine) makes me very uncomfortable. The NTSB database is full of wrong-fuel fatal aviation accidents. Smart pilots *always* either fuel their own aircraft or supervise the person doing it for them. I recently read one report where Jet-A was loaded into an older aircraft with turbocharged piston engines by a line fueler who, mistakenly, thought the aircraft had turbines. For quite some time, the FAA has required that fuel inlets have different throat sizes and that fuel nozzles have matching spouts for the correct fuel to prevent this sort of thing. The typical accident profile has the airplane taxiing and beginning takeoff on the good fuel and then abruptly losing power on takeoff as it is exhausted which is a nightmare scenario with low survivability.

I've run AV gas in my 1975 BMW R90. It's OK to do that if you're running hard with a high egt. In fact it's a little better for the valves and seats. But jet fuel is kerosene with some anti mist and anti cold gel additives. It's not good. In the 1920s gas often had kerosene in it. Model T Fords did OK with it.

Jet fuel is essentially kerosene, IIRC, and
alcohol makes an engine run really really lean, you have to give it a lot of fuel. Burt Munroe found out the hard way at Bonneville, burned several pistons (or so I read).

here in Brazil alcohol is a common fuel and can be found in every gas station: most injection cars and some bikes are "flex", you can use [and mix in every proportion] gasoline and alcohol (biggest bikes aren't flex, though, and I don't know why).
As far as I know, alcohol needs 30% more fuel compared with gasoline: it means 30% more open time for injection engines or 30% bigger jet size for carburetor engines (worth to mention that brazilian gas already contains at least about 25-30% of alcohol).
Alcohol is slightly more powerful than gasoline.

Smells awesome, runs more efficiently, better for your engine, and it doesn't contain ethanol do your seals don't get rotted. Used to have guys buy it all the time for their snowblowers in the winter because it's way better than gas.

    • @peteloomis8456
      @peteloomis8456 Před 3 lety +1

Yeah but with av gas they have additives to combat against high altitude fuel line freeze & carburetor freezing on carburetor equipped engines so what these guys missed was they should have rejetted the carburetor for the dyno pulls being the gravity of the fuel is so much different from not only 92 octane pump gas but different as well from 100+ octane race fuel used in cars for drag racing . I knew the jet fuel wouldn't work good because I know some modified turbo diesel tractor pullers out by me that run in the open modified class where just about anything goes for engine modifications as well as fuel & they are mixing diesel and jet fuel & are claiming more power with it as a power adder . Alcohol could have been good as well but it sounded like they didn't have big enough jets for it to run on & often times when dealing from gasoline to alcohole you have to jet up 4 sizes or more or it won't run good or run lean to a point it could hole a piston especially if the piston is only a cast & not forged . I couldn't see what carburetor they were using & from the sounds of it , it was probably a factory keihin CV carburetor which doesn't have the jetting ranges or jets sizes compared to a S&S drag carburetor or the Mikuni which are more tunable or can have a 3rd fuel circuit added by the use of a Thunder jet conversion for racing purposes .

Just started the video and I can tell you how this is gonna turn out. Racing alcohol will make less power unless you advance the timing significantly and increase the jetting. AV gas will make the most power but probably not much different than regular gas unless you advance the timing. Jet fuel is kerosine, It will absolutely not make more power.
