    Yes sir i have worked on those craftsman 4 cycle trimmers before and yes it was the recoil pawls that was a common problem, i am a 2 cycle fan, they are lighter, more powerful and more robust. Echo is my favorite trimmer, excellent video and fix,

    The value in these 4 stroke head units lays with the attachments. The tiller attachment's really a killer, does a dang good job. So if you come upon one of these be sure to check for any attachments they may have that go with it.

    Thanks for the detailed views. My Craftsman E Z Pul vintage 2017 is the same trimmer. My problem was it partly locked up due to some trimmer string that got into the cooling air vent in the front, wrapped itself around the front crankshaft and got snagged into the magneto (I know - HOW did that happen?). Vigorous pull starting on my part eventually BENT the pawl posts and cracked the plate, which is unobtanium by itself.
    It had been a good runner for 5 years.
    PS - anyone reading this that has a spare plate, let me know.

  • @cbauer72
    @cbauer72 Před 2 lety +6

    It might just be a trick of the camera, but the closeup of the original fan showing the posts that the pawls live on looked like the metal was bent slightly toward the engine side tilting the posts out of parallel with the shaft. This might have contributed to the wearing of the mounts and hastened failure of the part.

    Well I have an older model Craftsman 4 cycle trimmer and it is on the heavy side. My recoil is a bit different and so far have not had those type of problems--probably should have not said that. It is heavy but quite powerful and does a great job. I can not use for long and must take a break. But I am 78 so I do not have the strength I used to have. Thanks for the videos. Love your videos! I've been learning how to fix my own equipment and your content had been exceedingly helpful, but my 2021 Craftsman WS405 has me stumped!
    It was dying on idle, but ran fine at high throttle, so I adjusted the only screw on the carb which just made it idle a little higher, which worked for a time until it just stopped completely mid-job.
    I removed and cleaned the carb and discovered there is no air filter installed on my trimmer, and the screen had debris clogging it. After reassembling, it started and idled well, but now dies on high throttle. I'm getting frustrated with it and any advice would be appreciated!

    Love the videos, I’m having a strange issue with a Honda mower I have. Seems to run perfectly fine but when engaging the blade clutch the engine dies and then won’t start again until it’s cold. And ideas on where you would start with that?

    • @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
      @INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE  Před 2 lety

      let me get this straight, so the blades engage, and without running for very long, the mower stops? the engine and the blades, don't have to "work" for very long at all? have you tried to spin the blade by hand? because on the model you have, sometimes the bearings for the clutch system, will seize up.

    • @Joshmccaul22
      @Joshmccaul22 Před 2 lety

    Had this trimmer and it was the biggest piece of junk I ever owned. Went through 3 of them on 24 months. Cooling fan disintegrated on the first (lasted 1 year), the recoil starter quit working on the 2nd and 3rd ( had 2nd 1 1/2 months and had the 3rd 1 month). All were within the 2 year manufacturers warranty and Sear replaced the 1st and 2nd but refused to replace the 3rd. I showed my butt in the store and almost got the police called on me. Last thing i said as I was leaving the store l, in a very loud voice was that I now knew why they were going out of business because there products and the customer service was crap. A privately owned Sears Hometown Store in another town made it right for me. Only run a 2 cycle model now.
