    I really don’t see the point of having an automatic choke on a trimmer, this is a prime of example of having more features just means you’re going to have more problems.

      i totally agreed 100% what you are saying its a home owner project in the winter if you like to tinker with small engines to bring it to a small engine shop 100% no way the cost of repair will out seed the value of the trimmer i just seen it today and many of times over that trimmer was never meant to be repaired its just a throw away .... hey get video Mr Inside Garage looking forward to the next video

    I wouldn't do that repair professionally due to a risk of a warranty return rather do it for a friend or a relative.
    I used to use an aluminium piston stopper tool & a soft faced hammer 🔨 to remove the clutch on the Ryobi trimmers over 20 years ago & it was supplied to us by Ryobi since we were their warranty service agent in our local area !

  • @WalterKnox
    @WalterKnox Před 2 lety +2

    I am still running a Homelite SX-135 from 1995. It still runs great after all of those years. I did have to replace the piston ring one time about 2 years ago, but still not bad. And it doesn't have any of those weird mechanisms to fail like a lot of these ones today.

      Those 80s and 90s homelites are THE BEST little trimmers! If you can keep them running , they'll keep going for years. :)

  • @shaffersmallengineshop5957

    Way too complicated!! Those plastic rollers are doomed to failure and I hate the spring loaded staters on all brands. Great video. I have three trimmers and my favorite is an old Homelite SS26. Easy start, plenty of engine and light weight. Kinda like your Weedeater!

  • @haneyoakie14
    @haneyoakie14 Před 2 lety +3

    Suppose you WANTED to fix this. Maybe it had sentimental value to a loved one, or something like that. I would think suitable rollers could be fabricated from plastic tubing or even, since they are ridged, from drywall anchors of sufficient diameter.

  • @apatterson8128
    @apatterson8128 Před 2 lety +1

  • @Nukemann64
    @Nukemann64 Před 2 lety

    I take one look at this trimmer, and think to myself, "my god MTD, wtf were you thinking?!"
    That auto choke system alone, is just asking for something to break. I mean what engineer at MTD thought that a weedeater needed an auto choke? I mean it's not at all difficult to press a lever, and pull the rope.
    I probably would've declined working on this thing, to be completely honest with you. I've gone down the MTD rabbit hole too many times and got burned and wasted SO much time with trash equipment, that deserves to be in the dumpster. And i hate saying that, because this thing has a massive engine on it! I've used the older Ryobi's designed like this, and they were powerhouses. But working on them was a nightmare. Great video as usual, IHG! Thank you for the info! : )

  • @Matthew_Does_To_Many_Things

    We have a similar trimmer. It’s a 1995 ryobi that’s more barebone. It has no clutch and no auto choke system. One time I was trying to start it and then the rope wouldn’t go back in. I wiggled it around and then it went back in. I really hope it keeps working because I don’t wanna mess with those springs. I say get rid of that auto choke system or rig it up differently so you just pull the cable for the choke. Anyway great video.
