- NARROW ESCAPE - our narrowboat life adventure. In this episode, we take a wander around historic Worsley Delph, in Manchester on the Bridgewater Canal. The area is steeped in history, gorgeous buildings and used to house an underground canal system which effectively built the local area and created commerce, hustle and bustle.
We've got to say it's very nice, nice, nice! Take a walk with us and come and see for yourself.

Well you two (I hope this gets me back into Sue's good books). This vlog was by far, the best one you have done so far in terms of information and history. Better than any other vlogger I have seen thus far.
The history of the place was brought to life by your superb narrative and video.
The houses were built in a Cantilever style. Also known as Jettying, often used for timber-framed buildings, but was succeeded by cantilever, which were used for the same reason as jettying, to maximise space in buildings. This is often utilised on buildings that are on a narrow plot and space is at a premium.
The other buildings you showed on your walkabout looked like mock Tudor to me. Not the real thing, as were the Georgean style windowed house. All very very very nice though.

The cantilever idea totally makes sense and given how tight the footprint/plot was it was necessary on that building.
Mock Tudor seems to be the consensus but when you stand there my word they look authentic. A lovely area for sure.

Hi Elliott and Sue, thanks so much for the in depth look at Worsley Delph and all the research you done. You done a really great job. I’ve heard some stuff about it on other channels but yours was much more extensive. Those letters the kids wrote were rather sad though 😢 have a great week guys

This vlog did last longer…about 6 times as long as it did in edit because Sue kept on getting towards the end of her pieces and forgetting her train of thought 🤣🤣 It is so difficult when you don’t script things though to just say what you want and be factually correct 🤣

@NarrowEscape1 I work at hinkley piont the new nuclear powerstation , or it's going to be when it's finished 😅 its 320 miles for me to get here , I work 10 days on 4 off , I'm a welder 👨🏭 i work underground so I'm not to affected by the weather ,

My local bit of the canal network! we go for walks there most Sundays, the underground mine working extend for miles

I guess I think of that style as Tudor or Bavarian maybe? Some of the older ones sometimes look that old but these seem younger and very well cared for.
It’s funny you say that because our immediate thought was Tudor, and as you stand there trying to video they seem so very authentic but as you say they were well maintained. The windows looked wonky though? Perhaps they are protected under a Heritage restriction and have to be kept really well?

@@NarrowEscape1 Not much happening on Melita this week, came home with the lurgy last Thursday!! Feeling a bit better now, but not got the energy or enthusiasm to get on at the moment. I was told this few years ago I had conkers every corner of the room and hanging but had just as many big hairy spiders too 😅.
Lovely video now that would be fab place to visit if some where close by, bit of a way to travel there for myself.
Looks good kayaking water 💧 is it possible to kayak it looked to me like it had a dead end.

You could potentially kayak there but I suspect you might get in some trouble because we think it’s closed to all water traffic and not just boats.

Just watched your vlog it was really interesting to know all the info and the village looks a lovely little place. Spooky part is and if you want to know any further information other than what you have portrayed. I watch another channel called Paul Whitewick and following your video he was talking about the Navvies that worked on the canal to begin with the stretch that you were talking about. James Brindley etc and then went onto the Basingstoke canal and Staffs and Worcs. He covers a lot of disused canals. Also as interesting as your stories. Just for info, and again thanks for yours xx

Lived in Worsley for year and half,was glad to get out and move back to common grounds,Worsley folk think they are better than anyone from outside,Lovely place but got to have a few bob,to fit in

the reason that the stories get bigger and over hang the ground floor is a smaller land print, so a bit cheaper. Thats what a history guide told me anyway
