- Hey party people! Thanks so much for hanging out with me while I share with you the ultimate flamingo house flip and then I have the ultimate brownies!! WOW these surpassed my expectations! I would link where I found the recipes but it was literally a video someone randomly sent me and I jotted it down in my chicken scratch! I hope you enjoy the brownies if you make them! What else do we do.. idk we just hang out while I get some stuff done around the house; laundry, cleaning, and more cooking! I share a super simple easey dinner recipe with you too! It's a go-to and I make it all the time because it's delicious!

Yeah - really I don't consider goofy 80's Tuscan, or whatever that is, "character". With the flip you can easily accessorize to individual style. They did a great job.

Loved the after tbh! You can totally add character back in, install your own wallpaper etc. Just got to see beyond the bland mass appeal that they are presenting at the viewing.

@@thewadsquad You would have to spend a lot to renovate on your own. They literally fixed so many of the more expensive/time consuming things you wanted to change anyway. Adding color with paint/wallpaper is the super cheap and easy part to give it the look you want. The house has so many of the items on your dream checklist. You could also add a flamingo window to any house - you have the photo to show exactly what you want to a store/designer and make any house a flamingo house.

@@thewadsquad Yeah, the blinds were an odd choice by them... pretty sure no one can see through the flamingo into the house, so blinds are pointless.
I feel like it was more of a cover up to modernize it 🤔
I liked the house before the renovation! Gave me all the 80s/90s vibes! Being a child of the 90s and all I love anything that takes me back to the best time ever!!! 😍 You are definitely so right about a compliments! I had a woman tell me I was I was beautiful girl the other day (I wasn't dressed fancy I had cool American flag shorts on though) and I has made my entire month!

The flamingo house looks great, the one thing I’d say is with the walls gone in the kitchen, there is a lot less counter space. It would have been nice if they could have made the island longer.

It’s so interesting to see the ‘character’ in old American homes- in England we definitely don’t think of 50s-70s as old!
My home is almost 200 years old, and has plenty of character, but also tonnes of issues 😂 the older the house, the bigger the money pit! Definitely worth doing an update yourself though- ‘flips’ are so impersonal.
Snap mines is also 200 year old, former hospital and military rehabilitation but modernised now, outside still huge thick stone, old ways of building last forever eh?
I’m getting to t he stage, maybe a new ‘town house’ would be easier, but then none of the quirks of my old terrace … I miss the house I grew up in mind.

I appreciate your love of vintage when houses hunting! I’m torn because I love both modern and vintage. As a former cosmetologist I applaud you cutting your families hair because it’s not easy but I think it’s the first time I’ve seen it done without a comb 😊😀 loving it! One time I was at goodwill with all four of my children and my two youngest were having a moment...ehem.... in the fitting room. I was very overwhelmed but somehow I was able to "keep my cool". Though I didn't FEEL like I did. 🙃but I guess I didn't yell... lol
And when we came out of the fitting room, a woman stopped me and said, "you're doing great. "

The wisdom of Meredith. Did anyone notice how she decided to go down the steps in that house? She bent down on her knees and went down the steps. Isn't that just genius. The child is so smart. She is able to pronounce words when she hears them. Anyway she seemed like the baby you wished you had. Very happy child. Love her. I agree with you about complimenting others, so often I find when someone smiles at you when you least expect it can make someone's day. For a novice barber, you did an excellent job giving Wentworth a haircut. Next time though, put some water in a spray bottle to wet his hair. You seem as if you enjoy messing up around you and cleaning up after. Better you than me.
I try and compliment people when I’m out and about. Being old I think I can get away with it! I saw a young woman come towards me in a leopard skin coat & she looked fabulous. I said to her “ you are rocking that coat!” Then I thought should I have said that out loud? She replied “ yes I love it & I got it from a charity ( thrift ) shop. “

I have always made it a habit of calling a restaurant and telling them what a good job they did in preparing my order! This is especially true if I made a special request! I remember calling once and after getting the manager on the phone I proceeded to tell them how much I enjoyed my meal and thanks for remembering my special request. For a moment I thought we had been disconnected because at first there was no response from him. After a moment when he started to speak I could hear his voice cracking. I wished I could reach thru the phone and hug him! He to,d me that he had been manager for two years and absolutely no one had ever called to tell him that they were happy with their meal!
How sad is that?!!! You can make a difference! In this day and age we get a lot of delivery orders and pick up!
I loved the potential the old flamingo house had. Feels like someone else’s house walking in it again rather than the same charming fixer as before.
I agree that all of the hard work has been done and it’s easy to add character with wallpaper, paint, furniture & decor. Houses sell better overall with neutral decor so they went more neutral overall. The house does still have character though. The hall bath floors are super fun and the wood/vinyl floors throughout are gorgeous! And it’s easy to paint cabinets. So you could totally make each bathroom different. And same for the island. So much easier to make it your own now. Keep an open mind! 💜
Also it's very functional for a family their size - people won't bump into each other.
I've raised 7 (most ours, but we also fostered). All had 1 chore daily, based on age from age 3, from emptying dishwasher, sweeping kitchen, putting toys in bin, etc., and their responsibility for the week. If they left a mess, not gone after 1 reminder, they had to clean it ASAP plus earned an extra chore. They would call each other out so it became funny, and that started going for friends always over. I would come home, see one of their friends vaccuming my living room, saying, "I made a sandwich and forgot to clean up after" lol. Ok, thanks. Now just 3 young teens & one young adult who moved home since their dad died, to help. Now the 4 boys each have 2 chores a day, plus one big weekly job (like scrubbing shower or cleaning stairs/hall). It's easy to keep all in check, my burden is reasonable and the house chaos is nonexistent. Plus they all now have the habit of picking up after themselves...bonus for their future spouses.
I soooo agree with you with everything matching in a house! I feel that in the (CZcams and tv version of at least ) us every house shown is matching and basically is a store or showroom. No caracter like you Said. I Love that you love wood and vintage things in house and not typically youtuber houses. Your vintage Paradise house is waiting for you!

Even new houses have issues, some family friends of mine discovered the builders had been drinking and relieving themselves (#1 & #2) in the attic. Sooooooo...

I can not AGREE more about spreading kindness. I have taught my daughters by actions and words to always tell others / share kind words, thoughts, feelings…. Just like your story. And my oldest is really good about it, if she sees someone and likes their nails, hair, clothes; whatever she will tell them. Youngest - is working on it - she is my shy girl. :)
Just a tip...I sprinkle chocolate chips on the brownies when they come out of the oven and once they melt, spread around with spatula. Easy peasy!

i agree with you on the flamingo flip. its so blah! i like to see the natural wood of cabinets, colorful walls and "dated" character personally. Also, I love how you showed us that giant bag of pens that don't work and folded it up and put it back in the cabinet. i felt that to my core.
The updated look of this house is amazing! The before looked dirty and old..... You can always add wallpaper having a white house is a blank page to do what you want.

Love the flamingo house so much more.When you have a clean pallet like that it so easy and less expensive to add color with accessories. You could also do pantry shelves in the laundry room since it's right by the kitchen. And the outside is gorgeous!
I love love love the new update. I agree it had lost character, but I prefer it over the dated look it was before. I HATE when kitchens don't have a pantry. I most definitely would be making that room a pantry and mudroom area! I definitely think they would have changed the flamingo window but it would have cost way to much so they sacrificed it. I love it though!
That was great. I agree with you about that house flip. They took out a lot of charm...and the pantry. Those cupboards in the island are under a ledge, that I'd be bumping my head on. And Wentworth is a little star in the making. That hair cut was great!

I liked the one bathroom the flamigo house did in the black and white flower tile. I think the house would've looked better with more of that tile. Your before and after was amazing. The same thing happened to me. Was on a flight with my two year old son and had planned a bunch of simple activities for him. We did all the things and a stranger commented on what a great mom I was - that was 22 years ago and it still makes me smile! Spread joy! Compliment someone! It could totally make their day or more!

I 100% agree on the complimenting people. I try and remember to do it as much as I can and encourage my 13 year old to do it too. Honestly to see the surprise and delight in people faces is so amazing. We really don't do it enough.

Many years ago my kids were about 10 & 7 I think we ate at Denny’s and the waitress complimented my kids for having good manners. I was proud of them and they were proud of themselves. At home they are a different type 😬 Also my mom used to buy bags of pens at yard sales. I loved it because you had all types of pens from different businesses and stuff
I’m a nanny and I am on vacation with 5 families at a beach house in Mexico and I just keep thinking of Kim saying “Living the life of luxury” all day everyday! 🤣 Wish you were here to see it!

After having lived in a house under construction for months, I would go for the flamingo house now with it all done. You can decorate each room to your own style. The neutral colors gives you a blank canvas to work with. I am sure the price reflects the increase in construction materials.
Oh my gosh Kim, you are so right about complementing people!! That is such a nice thing to do, extremely nice. There was one time that I can recall just recently that this girl complemented me. I was leaving a restaurant on a first date with someone that I really REALLY like!!!! And this girl was like “Wow, I love your dress.” And her friend was like “Oh me too and I like your hair.” They had no idea how much it meant to me especially in that moment. 😌 I was so surprised that they said that to me in the two second passing of opening the door and holding it open. It made me feel really great and it made my date smile. I was so nervous the entire time I was getting ready for the date and second guessing everything. It only take 2 seconds to say something nice to someone and it can make their entire day!! I hope I can pass the complement to someone else and make them feel how great I felt. We all just need to throw around some kindness like it’s confetti!! 😄🎉
The first time we flew with our oldest who was 5 months at the time, we were so stressed because we didn't want him to cry the whole time and upset anyone. We were so down anyway because my MIL was dying, hence the last-minute trip. I started to sing "Edelweiss" when our baby started to get fussy, and we were doing our best to be quiet. The woman behind us told me that I had a pretty singing voice and that she loved Sound of Music. Then a guy from across the aisle said that he had his violin if we really wanted to make this into a concert. Those kind words helped us more than those people will ever know. I get tears in my eyes just remembering that time of stress and sadness and how their understanding gave us a bit of light in such a dark time. Always, always spread kindness. You never know who really needs it at that moment.
The “you are a great mom” comment brought tears to my eyes! So nice….and you really do look like a great mom😃
Trying to catch up on all the videos I missed and oh my gosh, I’m so happy they kept the flamingo! It’s amazing what a facelift can do to an old home 😍 I personally would have put the washer and dryer where it was originally supposed to go and add built in shelving in that room and make it a huge pantry.

Oh wow, yes I’m the one who loves that bright white flamingo flip !! It is gorgeous and I’m so into the new fresh and bright style !! I know it’s not your style though, but wow that it’s came out awesome. I also don’t have the vision to remodel and would have not it could come out that way.

I had a friend who lost the tray for her George Foreman and she just set it sideways, next to the sink, so the grease drained into the sink which she’d put a pile of paper towels in. When she was done, she just grabbed the paper towels, swiped out her sink and tossed them. I was amazed! She found her tray after a couple of months when she cleaned out a cupboard and decided she didn’t need it!

The laundry room has plenty of space to put lots of shelves for a pantry. I hate how these flippers make all the tile/counters the same. Boring.
Yes! The laundry room is close enough to the kitchen and there is enough space to add shelving for a ton of pantry storage.

Think of it as a brand new blank slate, you can add your own personal character, what you like, what your family likes, and make it your HOME. I love how they still left small little details like the flamingo window, the toilet paper holder, and now you can also add your own personal touch as well. We lived in Arizona a couple years, but returned to Iowa twice a year (a 22 hour drive, before stops). I did the trip- there and back- about 4 times, by myself, with two kids (they were 4 or younger every time.) People would ask 'how' I did, and my answer was "I just did it." 😂 My husband is an airline pilot now, and my girls are 9 and 7, but people still ask 'how' I do it, and my answer is still 'I just do.'
That’s me these past few weeks with all relatives staying over for few weeks- piles of laundry , lots of kids playing , and I conk out once I sit on the chair for 5 mins before going to bed- the few minutes me time never happens as I am asleep already!!
I love the flamingo home more now. I feel overwhelmed by having to do renovations and now that it’s done I wouldn’t have to stress about it. Yes it lost character but it’s updates you personally didn’t have to DIY ( I don’t have the time or the ideas and it may end up way more expensive if I did it) it seemed finished and had almost all the features I want. I would just be missing extra cabinets/ countertop and pantry which I will need.
Thank you!! I agree with giving complements and encouraging kids to do it. When my kiddos were small, I told them it’s like giving people cake and sometimes people just need to have their cake (complement). I don’t know of many things I love to see other than when someone is not smiling due to what ever reason and I have the opportunity to look at them and see something about them that I truly like and TELL them! Their face lights up!
Oh gosh Kim!! I can only imagine how much these people are gonna make on that flip. That was minimal work even though it seemed like a lot. Oh man! I had to go back and find the first showing. Insane what paint, flooring and new fixtures can do! That house was definitely a diamond in the rough!
I grew up with a pool in the backyard and my mom always made us jump on the trampoline after we were done swimming. I realize now that she just wanted us to dry off most of the way so there weren’t sopping wet things scattered all over the house! We’d also hang dry our towels on the clothesline and reuse them for several days before washing them.
I def HIGHLY recommend the Handmaids Tale. I just finished all 4 seasons and it's prob the one show I wanna go back and rewatch AGAIN!! It and Yellowstone are prob now my two fav shows.
I hit pause to tell you about THT and the second I unpaused you said "I've been watching THT" haha. Yes the season finale was INSANE!!
Love your whisk earrings! I liked the Flamingo house before and those 80s cabinets, love! I was in my 20s through the 80s and I had those cabinets when I got married in 1988. It is good that you are viewing so many houses so you can discover what you like and what you don't even if you get a "fixer upper" you will know what you would like to change over time etc. Just painting walls in a fresh neutral and maybe new carpet can make all the difference. I really enjoy going on the house tours with you.
Kim, we drove from NC to Missouri last week. It was our 3rd time doing but this time we had a 6 month old, along with our other 2 daughters. It normally takes us 18 hours with stops. This time.......24 hours!!!!! We said NEVER AGAIN! We will fly from now on lol. I feel your pain.

Hey Kim, a metal scourer will remove basically anything, instantly, from your pots and pans. Just don’t use it on non stick surfaces cos it will even take that stuff right off lol.

My 13 year old daughter and husband were at the mall over the weekend. They said they saw this dapper 65+ or older man walking with his jacket over his shoulder dressed to the t. We live in a farming community so not the norm here. My daughter loves to tell people how great they look. She clapped at him and said how great he looked she said he gave a big smile.

Why do we as moms feel so guilty for doing things for ourselves??? Its so frustrating and I am right there with ya! Im single Mama and today is the first day I have been alone since March…2020 and I sat down with a snack and a show and immediately felt guilty. Like it was work to sit through it. We deserve it, but its a battle sometimes. We all (myself included!!!) have to try harder to be easier on ourselves! ❤️

I stopped folding my kids' clothes a few years ago...with exception of the uniforms and nice clothes get hung up. They actually put their own clothes away. There are icon stickers on their drawers so they know where to put things and they just throw them in. It have saved me so much time!! I also have the kids bring me all their clothes and they go thru all of them and flip everything right side out. My kids are 10, 8 and 6.
Good morning!! I love that they kept the flamingo window!! Love the toy for Meredith. My kids love fidget toys especially the pop-it things. We have tons of them all shapes and colors.

I like it better now ... but that's personal preference if course. I'd have put in an offer on it now, cause I feel like personal decor, furniture, all those things with break up the white. You'll find the one that screams to you eventually, I'm just happy to see someone taking their time and not jumping in feet first.
