It's amazing to see how you're not stingy with how you feed your family. There are yourubers in 8000sq ft homes who give each child one tiny cube of chicken while going on exotic vacations. It's beautiful that your son just mentioned oranges and you bought it. You seem like an amazing mommy!

I love the way little kid's brains work. It's Sunday, you can let him out. When my daughter was 5, she sat me down for one of her "grown up" talks she liked to have occasionally. She told me that she knew she was adopted but it was ok because she loved me just the same as if she wasn't. She just needed to know if her daddy knew she was adopted....hence the reason for our talk. I thought it was so sweet but was baffled why she thought she was adopted... she wasn't. After reassuring me of her love once again, she said I didn't have a scar on my belly where they took the baby out of. Even after I explained it the best way I could to a 5 year old, it still took me forever to convince her. When her daddy came home, she ran to him and told him to sit down. She proceeded to explain to him how she was born because she somehow thought he didn't know...lol. She's now 24 and we still laugh about it.

Those "emergency chicken" patties brought back a lot of childhood memories. My mom used to get those on super sale and make a cheat version of chicken parmesan (topped the patties with tomato sauce and cheese). I thought it was a fancy meal, but really, it was quick and easy. Hmmm... maybe I should put that on the menu plan for next month.

Congrats on the new DW. When we replaced our probably 15 + year-old DW I was excited to get a stainless model that was also stainless steel on the inside. My husband installed it and when he started it we both stood there staring at it. There was zero noise & we both thought, “Oh great, what’s the deal. It doesn’t work.” We both ended up sitting on the floor with our ear to the door, until finally we heard a noise. The thing is freakishly quiet I tell you, which is great cuz the old one was very noisy. I guess we got used to it but the new model is a great.

Family of 12, same dishwasher 10 years. Trick I learned early on is watch how much detergent you use, they really take very little and you do not need to fill the dispenser. I also do a vinegar rinse weekly and twice a year I take out the racks and clean the water spouts etc with vinegar. It doesn’t take more than an hour, watch a show while you do it or have your older kids help.

Butcher box looks intriguing! I buy the bone in pork butts occasionally, and I typically make carnitas with them....so good with tortillas and the fixings. I cut the meat in large chunks off the bone, brown it in my cast iron pan, and cook it in the instant pot with a lot of garlic and spices and lime juice, and then remove from the instant pot with a slotted spoon , shred it and broil it on a cookie sheet under the broiler for a while until it gets crispy 😋

I am one of the dishwashers in my house so I miss having a dishwasher. I usually would run it before I went to bed for the night.
Also idk what water you use in your coffee maker but I wanted to say that in case you aren’t aware but using the store bought bottle water or jug water actually increases the life of your appliances that utilize water. I didn’t believe until I saw it. We had a coffee maker at work brand new and only lasted 8 months and the current coffee maker has now lasted 3 years. Same model. Only difference is that we use the jug water from our water delivery service. So just a fun fact.

You need to get home appliance insurance. About $500 a year and if your appliances break down they come out on a service call and for $75 they will either fix it or replace it for free. Check into home shield. They cover freezers, washers, dryers all home appliances. You can get it for your heating/ac as well. I love mine.

I hate how appliances have became so disposable
When I first started my adult life if you bought a major appliance it usually lasted 15 years minimum. Guess this was not profitable for the appliance makers.

My appliance man told me recently that Samsung and LG are made to throw away instead of fixing them. I bought a new KitchenAid in November and they are fixable. He also told me that GE and KitchenAid are made in the U.S., so getting parts are easier to get and not as high as the other two appliances I mentioned.

I agree, hubby and I purposefully buy (used) as many older mechanical rather than full of computer boards appliances as we can. Last month we spent a couple hours pulling our clothes washer apart, (was still working but he thought something sounded a bit off) hubby spent all of $10 on a couple simple parts (that came with lots of extras) and replaced them, cleaned it up good inside and out and it’s a good as new!

It's crazy how we now live in a word that things are disposable. I'm 42 and I'm like my Mum and Dad as I use and look after all my possessions. My sister is completely the opposite and does not look after things because she has the mind set that you can just get buy another one. We were brought up in New Zealand but at age 22 she left and has traveled the world before settling in England. She is married to a lovely English man and they have two beautiful children. Our differences really showed recently as they stayed with us for 4 months to spend time as a family as my amazing Mum was dying of cancer. She passed away with all of us with her at home just as she wanted it (Boxing Day 2020). They ruined a lot of our things (I moved back in with Mum and Dad as ten years ago when I was 32 my specialists give me two years to live). I sound a bit old fashioned but I believe in looking after things as there is already too many people living with a disposable attitude.
Sorry this was so long just to over explain how I agree with you. Xx

I went my entire life without a dishwasher until 6ish years ago. I tried it.... now I use it to “dry” the dishes I wash. By the time the dishes are rinsed and loaded, I could’ve just washed them. So that’s what I do. I just can’t with the amount of time it takes. My sister loves hers. She only has one kid at home, so she loads it as dishes are used throughout the day then runs it at night every other day or so. But I’m a family of 8, so each meal is a full load.

I used to work for an appliance store. For the most part it really is what you spend is what you get. However, for HE top load washers they will last about the same amount of time. But I always recommend getting something with the least amount of computer hardware. If something is going to go out it will be electronic and that equals expensive. I have never owned a dishwasher. I would love one but the next type of house we are looking to buy we know we won't have one. We want a vacation cabin that will eventually be our home once the kids are gone.

A tip for all: if you get a greasy spot on your clothing 1) dab between 2 paper towels it cloths 2) sprinkle with a good layer of baby powder 3) press into surface 4 ) gently shake of excess 5) leave sit at least over night 3-6 days is fine 7) brush of powder vigorously 8) launder as usual with stain remover if needed. I’ve even been able to wear a garment without laundering. Most of the time no pre-treatment needed. It’s amazing!
