In this interview, Arshan speaks with Yung Fazo in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene Park during KTO’s recent trip to NYC. Yung Fazo is a 16-year-old rapper from Long Island, NY who’s been making waves in the underground since his start in 2019. His song “Adding” featuring SoFaygo currently has over 5.7 million plays on SoundCloud, while his music video for “Flex Like This'', which released in June 2021, has over 161,000 views. His most recent project, #frvralone, is a 6-song EP which released on August 13, 2021 and is available on all platforms.
During their conversation, Yung Fazo talks about being from Long Island and what his interests were before rapping, envisioning himself being involved in business, real estate, or stocks so he could live freely and comfortably. He outlines his start making music, including participating in choir when he was younger, before talking about his experience as a rapper from a Muslim & Guyanese family. Fazo describes himself as “pretty religious” and reveals that he prays everyday. He details his parents initial reaction to his music and admits that they now are just happy to see him do what he loves. He talks about his “animated” aesthetic and some of his major influences, including Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, XXXtentacion, and rage beats. He admits he’s started to get tired of rage beats so he’s been switching up his sound, like on his newest single, “Let You Go”. Arshan asks Yung Fazo how he would spend a budget to support his career, to which Fazo responds that he would spend the money on new clothes, marketing, music videos, and new audio equipment. Both Arshan and Yung Fazo give props to artists signed to Carti’s “Opium” record label, namely Destroy Lonely and Ken Carson, for having their own aesthetic which is constantly incorporated into their work.
Fazo details how he envisions his sounds evolving over time and the effect he wants his music to have on his audience. He explains not wanting to be boxed into the “brown lane”, aka brown artists being limited to brown audiences. Yung Fazo also describes how he deals with haters and Arshan relates to him on how they are both trolled for being brown and in hip-hop. They also talk about NAV, and Fazo explains how NAV is one of his inspirations and reveals his favorite NAV song: “Fell in Love”.NAV recently followed Fazo on Instagram as well. He details his friendships with rapper peers including SoFaygo, Baby Santana, Xhulooo, and Slump6s. He explains how he’s known SoFaygo since his start in 2019, when they met through a Discord server for upcoming rappers. As the interview comes to an end, Yung Fazo discusses meeting with record labels while considering staying independent, and discloses the biggest misconceptions about himself and his music. Kids Take Over is based in Vancouver, Canada.

W seein the brown community growin fr. We up 🤞
Arshan we need that Dotcom Nirvan interview!
The reason why Anik ain’t get to that “mainstream” level is cuz the things he talks about aren’t as common as others. He doesn’t stick to the typical money, cars, and drugs that most people talk about. He speaks about important topics and still manages to sell out shows internationally. Ya should def do an interview w him to figure out his story
Who? What’s his name
Do you mean anik khan?

bro what kind of ricks does he have?
No wayyy his real name is Fazon 😳🥶
14:48 WWWWWWWWWWWWWWW he follows him on ig
Baljeet 😭😭😭
Shut up
I'm a KTO fan but ngl wasn't feeling the Anik Khan slander in this video, his music is alot more than "mango lassi". It's just as important to have brown artists that talk about the immigrant struggle as it is to have brown artists that just make regular music
Deadass
Nah, no slander at all. Just simply saying the truth of what happened. He catered to majority brown people, so they ended up being most of his fan base, and he didn’t end up becoming mainstream. That’s fine, not everyone has to. I’ve seen cool videos of him bringing out his dad to shows & what not, so good for him 👍🏽 I just compared his path to the path NAV took and what it seems like Fazo is currently taking.
@@KidsTakeOver @Kids Take Over It did come off as disrespectful though bro, imagine putting your soul into music representing your peop and then some dude just talks about you in an interview as the guy who mentioned mango lassi in a song.
You made it him out to sound like some corny brown rapper.
I just realized him and lil peep from the same area. rip lil peep
Damn, wonder if Fazo listened to peep
