- After running a Multiplayer of Avorion I found the thirst uncontrollable, I had to play the game again on Insane mode with the goal to do a perfect run of the game, much like has been done in the past with Patrician IV, Factorio, Capitalism Lab and so on.
The perfect run has the following criteria:
All Single Player Milestones
Legendary versions of all unique Subsystems
Spare Building Knowledge for all materials
100M of each resource, 100B Credits
Giant monolithic statue of Chefren built in the centre of the galaxy
Produce all resources
Entire Universe charted
All Major Factions allied or eliminated
Seems like a massive undertaking and the Galaxy is a big place, but let's take those first humble steps into the unknown and strap in for many, many hours of attaining perfection.

Good memories of Perfect Hansa, it's almost the ideal Jake stream, just hours upon hours of Jake's lovely voice over quality gameplay
I was just scrolling through his videos and then I saw the thumbnail. I may start over with the perfect hansa of Patrician 4.
I remember the Perfect Hansa. I watched that right after 3 Mountains, right at the beginning of COVID.
Your gaming kept me sane through the combination of lockdown and working in the Emergency Room during the lockdown.
And here I thought that watching Perfect Hansa only caused insanity, not cure it.
I'll always remember watching the Patrician 4 Perfect Hansa live. I was so sick I was bedridden and it was perfect for something to watch if I had the energy to do so while also allowing me to fall asleep when I needed to. Also, my dad happened to be visiting when I first got sick and and couldn't understand that I was unable to hang out with him so I used it as a deterrent so he'd leave me alone. By the end I was so invested that after I recovered I went back and watched the whole thing here on youtube to fill in all the bits that I missed. Anyway, 10/10 would pass out to it again
This longplay is going to bring back my Avorion addiction I can feel it. Also starting sector always has a salable asteroid from what I've seen.
In our MP, the starting sector had no sellable asteroid, In fact it had nothing but a couple of gates and some spawn-camping Pirates.
Every so often something draws me to this channel and consumes hours and hours of my life , factorio was the last one but this looks real deep , just settling down ready for hours of heavy nasal breathing
Your original playthrough got be hooked on this game and iv'e been playing it ever since. Seeing another series being posted on the same day I made it to the barrier for the first time gave me major whiplash. I'm looking forward so much to the flood of more avorion coming this way!
Your channel is a blessing, am genuinely impressed at the variety of games you play at maximum difficulty, the knowledge you have and share. Between the caesar 3 custom maps, some bannerlord and now this, it will take me months to watch it all a couple hours at a time, but so worth it !
Cheers. I've played a monstrous amount of games, so it's usually not too much of a learning curve to ramp up difficulty in a genre I'm somewhat familiar with. Caesar 3 custom maps are something I have a growing hunger for though.

New to the channel and Avorion, but I'm watching in the hopes that this'll encourage me to give the game a shot and maybe have some idea of what to do in my own playthroughs (though I probably won't spring for objectives like yours just yet).
I'm a long time veteran of most big-name space games: EvE, Elite, & X4 to name a few. I personally adore X4. But, I recently herd about this title during this years summer sale on Steam.
Thank you for an excellent introduction into the game. I realize this wasn't intended to be a new player tutorial. However, I found the organic way you moved into the game to be a perfect way to evaluate if I should buy it. Very much appreciated.
And it seems I now have a entertaining play through to enjoy next (Perhaps two, given the mention of the 'perfect Hansa' and another title I've never tried)
I did a successful Perfect Hansa run of Capitalism Lab and Patrician IV. Given you are an EvE player, it would probably be bad for your health to check out either of those.

Comfort control advice:
You can hold down Tab to target anything around you and scroll it to the point when you get a glimpse of what you was searching for then hit Ctrl+Tab to reverse the scrolling to the right one
It helps a lot when you want to scan a nearby meteors for a right mineral to mine or something hidden around asteroids
Also you often have a giant asteroid and a hidden stash in the start sector on a start of a new game

I've never played Avorion, was it because your ship was made of a lower tier material?
Iron is a heavy and brittle material to build from, creating slow vulnerable ships. Our ship was mostly made out of it since that was all we could afford.
Investing time in making a Titanium ship would result in a faster, more durable ship that would be better suited for both surviving and evading danger, but the rush for Naonite and beyond was too great a temptation to spend time in the other zones.
I watched the first perfect hansa. Should finish this one in a few months.

@DDRJake i know you will most likely choose to not use it but even on the hardest setting the Rift rebuilders will work you will have to piolet another ship into the same system first to use it though
This game is a hidden gem. I literally made a giant fist ship. I go balls out crazy speed and just ram into a space station sending it flying through space.

Just one idea... did you elaborate any plans regarding playing Open TTD this way?
After running the Whole World mod, re-colonizing the world as the USA on OpenTTD, I feel like I've played plenty of it. Additionally, I cannot think what a "perfect" run of OTTD would be, considering that it is pure sandbox and most values just go arbitrarily high.
This game has that legoish vibe to it and i like it despite it looking old

Sorry to clutter the comments section, but CZcams has thrice now lost my spot and I don't trust myself to keep remembering (and trust CZcams even less to keep it). I am certainly enjoying myself on this series and I think this is actually the first of this genre of game I have ever really enjoyed watching. SciFi really isn't my jam with very few exceptions (and far fewer still of video games). Looking forward to watching slowly this series as the end goal continues to get further away. I'll make sure to leave my bookmarks relegated to a single comment (and replies) when needed.

Man, it's been years since I played this.
I remember my main issue with the game at the time was that no matter how large of a ship you built, you were always hardcapped to X guns, depending on tier of the core system you were using.
Also that those guns were always the same size unless you went out of your way to use make them bigger for absolutely no benefit.
This in turn led me to building a massive carrier, because if memory serves amount of fighters was NOT limited by systems, but rather by size of the carrier blocks.
I used to be aggitated by this too: I felt that I could never get as many turrets as I wanted, so I used the Not Enough Turrets mod. Sadly it's been removed from Steam Workshop, but I have a copy of it backed up here: drive.google.com/file/d/1twNqAXu8RgWId1TcMGos6E_Q7-TJGjmm/view?usp=drive_link

Been years since I played this, and it looks like a lot has changed. The shops look very different, there's this "building knowledge" nonsense, Adventuring Companions. So much different in all the details at least.

Yes, I was able to restart the script for that mission so I could complete it without it glitching out like that.
To do so I enterered the following into the game's chat box:
/run Entity():addScript("lib/entitydbg.lua")
Then I ran the mission script for commanding ships and it reset that mission.
dont know about that insane difficulty ... nice playthrough though! ... subbed ;)
In eve online a common saying is never pilot a ship you can't afford to blow up. Seems like this game is pretty similar in that respect.
@DDRJake have you played EU2 or For the Glory? They are much more focused and immersive than EU4, especially EU2 with its era appropriate music which can easily be copied over to FtG to have the most updated(and it is updated to this day by one dedicated rogue dev)

You ever played the X Series of Space Sims, the economy of this game is as complicated as those games.
You were thinking of Endless skies around the two hour mark, absolutely loved that game, until I realized that trade goods never changed price, so all you needed to do was run the most profitable trade route over and over.. You were also thinking of Endless space for the narrative angle, which was what tripped you up.

SoD hurts to think about. I'd love to play more of it, but I've beaten every map on Lethal, some on Lethal Darkside and don't have anything left to do in the game.
@@DDRJake indeed but istill enjoy it will all the mods i have on it atm,no man's land+rising threat are much more unforgiving than darkside in the earlygame. 3 packs of 4 ferals each in day 3 obliterated my starting base. even i dont know how that happend :)
As an occational voddie, I've seen quite a bit of the Perfect Hansa. Not all of it though, I am not a crazy person. Just like I didn't watch all of 3 Mountains.

I see that the "Limited Adventuring Companion" is present in the game, yet the mod is disabled and you gave it a "No" while going over the mods at the start. Is any other mod adding this?
I wrote a small personal mod called "FixedStatSystems" which removes the random variance of subsystems' stats. eg: Rare velocity boosters that might give +30% velocity, or +32%, or +29%. It bothered me that this cluttered up the inventory so much. As part of this, I folded in the Limited Adventuring Companion subsystem into my mod and removed its random stat variance too.

dont know alot of the ships in this game but are battleships viable? are carriers? or is it better with smaller ships?
bigger is always better in battles when it comes to player controlled, and having a mothership ends up often the end game typical path. each ships' available subsystem slots are determined by the amount of cpu it has, scaling with size and block intensity, meaning having more ship gives you more gun and more stat bonus. carriers can be a bit glorpy, but are def fun, can even do funny things like a mining carrier sending out mining gnats. carriers have a system that involves what fighters you actually carry, and require you either buy or manufacture it in your ship.

The mention of Shin Megami Tensei interests me. Are JRPGs a common genre you play off-stream?
Heavens no. I think SMT is great, but I can't stand playing it. I watch a friend who is very good and knowledgeable with it play it instead. I love the themes, systems and presentation, but when I tried playing it myself I could not tolerate the grind, random encounters or the brutal turn based battles.
About those goals you set yourself, I take it this will be the only game you play for a few months?
They're big goals, but I don't think I need a whole month.

I took the Limited Adventuring Companion mod files and folded it into my own personal "Fixed Stat Systems" Mod so that I could get the subsystem AND have its stats not vary within rarity.
i don't buy tier 2 captains, tier 1 have the lowest salary and when they tier up they don't cost more in salary so i have extremly cheap high tier captains in the late game. big return on investment

so how good is this game compared to Cosmoteer.. i recently picked up Cosmoteer and am loving it.. i have a few nitpicks with the game like any game and wish there was more to do in that game (so im starting to play with mods) but overall the game is a solid game and does alot of things well for a sandbox game.. so im wondering how similar, whats better whats worse with this game over Cosmoteer and is it worth picking up

So... Trojan Horse. Where did it come from, and was it real?
The Trojan Horse as a term was introduced in the Aeneid by the Greek poet Virgil. The story goes that the Greeks built a wooden horse to honor the god Poseidon in the middle of the siege of Troy, then pretended to give up the siege and sail away. However, they had hidden 30 of their best warriors inside, and when the Trojans took the horse as a war trophy, the Greeks snuck out in the night and open the gates to the Greek army. Thus, the deception know as the Trojan Horse has become a modern-day analogy of pretending to do or offer one thing, and actually providing another that is unpleasant or dangerous.
This IS actually based on real events during the Trojan war, but not as the poet described it. The wooden horse in question was based on actual siege engine designs, which often took on the names and appearances of animals when created. The outer animal-shaped shell was intended to protect soldiers inside from arrows and other missile weapons from the defenders as they rolled the actual siege engine towards the city gates or walls, usually a ram or drill of some type intended to break said gate or wall open. Such siege engines were used fairly heavily during the siege of Troy, and several of them did take the shape of horses.
The event of sneaking Greeks inside the walls was mostly poetic license by Virgil, but is also based on a real event. During sieges, there were often agreed-upon lulls in combat where each side was allowed to retrieve wounded soldiers and abandoned equipment, and more often than not the opposing side would take that abandoned equipment for their own use. In one such instance, several broken and damaged siege engines were captured by Trojan soldiers and brought inside the walls to be either repaired or broken down for materials, one of which was a horse-shaped siege engine that still had dead bodies inside when it was brought in. The common practice for dead bodies of the enemy was to pile them up and either send them back to the enemy or burn them, and it turned out that two of the "dead bodies" piled up were still alive... one knocked unconscious but covered in blood, the other badly wounded but still ambulatory and also unconscious.
When the two unconscious soldiers revived, it was night time and the enemy hadn't had a chance to return the dead yet, so they were in the pile of bodies. They dragged themselves out of the pile, realized their opportunity, and managed to sneak into the gate house and kill the guards there as they slept (negligent in their duty, this story is also a cautionary tale for soldiers on guard duty). The two soldiers opened the gates and ran for it, the Greek guard pickets saw the event happen, and ordered an immediate stealth raid. That stealth raid was more successful than originally expected, and the raid turned into a full-on assault that caused enough damage to the city defenses that it eventually took down the city of Troy entirely.
Thus, the legend of the Trojan Horse was born and romanticized by Virgil into the book Aeneid, and it has been immortalized by the famous trilogy: Iliad, Aeneid, and Odyssey.

I really like this game, but I can't play it. I start to get headaches and start feeling stomach ill after about 15 or 20 minutes. I can watch videos of it though, so that's good.

I don't quite understand, can you not mark objects in this game? I'd assume the computer would track remnants of destroyed ships and you should be able to mark asteroids of interest, no? It seems silly that you run the risk of never finding something again if you focus on anything else for a moment.
Thanks for the series! Also amazing there’s no narcissistic face cam to ruin the immersion and block the screen. I do also like you have chat as a very small box that’s easy to ignore. :)
As somebody never having played this game, I feel the "perfect game" list misses some sort of ship-related goal. Max size ship? x ... million-billion "perfect" DPS? Maybe it's mostly covered by the other stuff anyway.
discover all 1000000 sectors? Even if you discover 1 every 10 seconds thats over 100 days straight. I'm not convinced even you have the willpower to see that through
An explorer discovers 400 sectors every ~20 minutes using the Explore Operation. That's only 2500 commands for the whole galaxy. It only take about 10 seconds to give the command and switch to another ship, so one could likely chart the galaxy optimally in about seven hours.
I tried charting the whole map, but the AI doesn't know how to defend itself when traveling. once you get an AI Captain and get the mod that lets you do looping orders again, You just looped the entire map I did it from the outer is going in so is one big circle. I waited until it had nice beefy shield so when it was under attack the outer rims nothing would hurt it. But it eventually got to a point where it was destroyed to play pirates. 😒.
In retrospect, charting the whole map is a mistake: the performance of the game degrades heavily from it.

got the game years ago with life chaos never got to the center of the world heck got halfway when my pc died have it installed an never got the dlc with my back log built up of epic games and some ea games i got for some reason never was able to complete it when my next try happened my new AMD 5 pc fst1 gen pc had a fault it was warranty repaired. every now no an then i wounder if i want to bother to get to the core game wise nervous with my string of luck if i want sink 300+ hrs in a game world i might lose if this pc has a fault... sigh my last 2 pcs have been lemons sigh...
at first you just wanted naonite for shields to set up miner ships... then you got a whiff of trinium and wasted hours and ample resources trying to get it. also, shouldnt you do more to upgrade ship parts from iron to titanium and naonite, like.. cargo hold, thrusters...?
Trinium is so, so good though, the greed could not be contained.

Avorion is werid game, it looks pretty bad, gameplay is mildly interesting.
