- I have created so many videos about language learning, but I felt like I have never wraped it all up in one. In this video I would like to highlight what I think are the most important rules when learning a language.
00:00 - Why this video
00:53 - Rule number 1
01:43 - Rule number 2
02:16 - Rule number 3
02:56 - Rule number 4
03:32 - Rule number 5
04:07 - Rule number 6
05:07 - Rule number 7
06:05 - What are your 7 rules?
What do you think? Have I forgotten anything important? What are your rules? Leave them in the comments :)

My number 1 rule is "Have confidence in yourself. " Without confidence, you'll never achieve your goals, but with confidence, there's no limit to how far you can go. Sometimes, I get down on myself, but then I remind myself how far I've come, and it gives me the confidence to speak as much as I can.
That is indeed true as well!
I agree, I have two additional rules that I try to live by.
1. I believe that sleep is super important for learning any skill. I think that part of what our brain does while we sleep is digest the information we've learned during that day.
2. I never try to cram too much studying into one day, because of the above point. If you do too much studying, your brain is overwhelmed and instead of digesting the information during sleep, it purges it. But on the other hand, I try to do some small amount (even as little as 15 mins) so that your brain has *something* to digest.
Hi there, I sleep a lot too, that might help hehehe :)
I feel the same way, sometimes we try to compensate by doing a lot in one day, but it is better to do a bit regularly, I think so too!
Thanks beautiful lady! You have some great ideas in this video! Well worth watching!
You are so kind, thank you very much :)
Great list. The only other rule I would add is 'to be patient'. I've only been a language learner for 5 years, learning 2 different languages over that time, however I have to remind myself regularly to 'focus on the process' rather than on the results. And just accept that acquiring a language will take a few years. I've noticed that polyglots like yourself all have this type of attitude.
Thanks for your comment! Patience is great for everything in life, I agree that it is important for language learning as well :)
Thank you for the video!
Sure :)
Moltes gràcies. I love your rules, I relish them!!! Thank you very much Indeed !!!! 🤗👍🤗👌
Awesome, moltes gràcies :)
great video!
Glad you liked it :)
3:34 very important
Yes! In language learning and in any area :)
agree, and it helps a lot to "dive" into the culture of the country. less memorizing words, more discovering a new and different world. schöne feiertage!
Yeees! :D
Schöne Feiertage dir auch! :)

Hi Laura. Your 7 Rules are EXCELLENT - and identical to the rules I’ve tried to follow. Nice and concisely presented in this video! SUGGESTION - Perhaps make additional videos. Should be EASY to do (ie, esp. in Catalan & Spanish - you could probably translate the English into those languages in “real time” - and WOULD be a NICE resource for your followers, since we are all learning one or more languages together - THANKS again for ALL that you do! - :)
Thanks a lot Ken, maybe I can create a podcast version of this video for the Catalan podcast? Good idea!
Hola Laura.
Sicuramente... 😆@@didiDanaila
That is so true!!! thanks for sharing this story with us :)
You're sooo pretty and intelligent!
Thanks, you are so kind! :)
Could you share your casual routine to study any language?
what I do the most is listen to podcasts or watch videos, I try to do that while cooking, for instance. For Russian, I have one conversational class a week, for instance. And I use German, French, English and Spanish daily at work :D
Great, what should I do to be fluent in speaking, in case of I couldn’t join any conversational classes and I never use this language in my work?
@@michelinealsabea3775 you can look for a tandem or practice with "self talk", this helps a lot as well
Where should I take Spanish classes online? I have tried italki. I use Tandem and Basuu. I use LingoPie. Is there something else I should use? I'm studying Castillano.
I love both italki and Lingoda. You can also take a "standard course" somewhere you live. Or look for a tandem or language exchange group, those are usually for free.
Some other brands I recommend are:
- Lingoda - group classes
- LingQ - learn with comprehensible input
- Speakly - an app that helps you with input as well, where you can also practice your pronounciation
I have videos about those brands in case you are interested :)
@@CouchPolyglot Oh, thank you so much.
How long did it take you to learn Deutsch?. I’ve been learning for about 4 months now and could say simple things but the rate I’m going feels like it would take me many years to master it.
I was learning it at the EOI (a language school) for four years before officially reaching B2. I also had two short stays in Germany during those years
When I arrived in Hamburg I started using German in real life and realised that I still had a lot to learn. After a year living in Hamburg and using German daily, I got to a "real C1"
It takes time for sure, make sure you find ways to make it fun and integrate it in your daily life for faster results 😄
@@CouchPolyglot Where is the EOI language school?
I don't follow any rules, but I follow you like a stalker every day, I like your your voice, no matter what language you are speaking. If I don't understand what you are saying, I look again, and again.. sometimes I activate subtitles. Am I focusing? Yes, I can assure you that nobody and nothing can interrupt me. Some times I am "shadowing" your voice. I hope that one day I can sit on your couch and have a chat with you. 😉
My message has mistakes? Who cares? I know that you understand me 😂
Funnily enough, I used to think I had an ugly voice. Now I have listened to it so much, I got used to it!
@@CouchPolyglot No te preocupes, tienes una voz maravillosa. Buen Nuevo Año!
