His Tony Hawk Foundation has funded over 500 skatepark projects in deprived areas of the USA, and aims to bring about social change through the sport.
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.
This man has earned some serious money and has put a lot of what he's earned from skateboarding back into American communities for skate parks for children to keep them off the streets and in a safe environment. Truly a legend of his sport.
@Low I.Q. Researcher unearned wealth, this man has more than earned his wealth.
@@Brock_in_the_North the best way a skateboarder can show his true skill is in the street.
armin38822 By streets, he means crime.
What a modest, intelligent and thoroughly decent person. Thanks for sharing 😎
I gotta say I have watched hundreds of Tony Hawk interviews, and have lived in the era he has dominated, but I gotta say Oxford really did a great job of asking intelligent, competent, inspirational and inventive questions. Way better than the normal questions.. They helped to delve a little more into Tony's thinking.
Man Tony Hawk is seriously my hero. The guy is just so chill and awesome
I love the recognition of Rodney Mullen at the end. Well deserved.
Interesting, I love that Oxford will have anyone speak, it's such a smart idea. More people need to see these videos, much love to whoever is running this CZcams channel and the lecture series as a whole. I appreciate the true apolitical centrist style, the world needs more of this.
What was the social context of the skate park invite 😂
I'm not much into skateboarding but I really look up to Tony Hawk. This video cements it.
This guy is a legend!
"So here I am, doing everything I can..."
"holding on to what I am, pretending I'm your superman!"
Nobody better than the birdman, both as a skater and an inspiration. The GOAT
"Full disclosure, they gave me 2K to spend.."
I really like Sneaker Shopping but I must say it... Busted ahahah Love you Tony!!
The wooden wall behind Tony Hawk's face is perfectly in focus. ^^
God bless him!♥❤
Who doesn’t dig Tony Hawk! What a man! Cool Q&A but the interviewer is a bit wooden
@@mr.firebeard9077 haha Tony would 720 the shit out of him
Probably the coolest guy on earth
Tony is the man. My best friend and i wore out public domain and animal chin on vhs when we were kids.
Such a cool guy. And we're neighbors, too!
The guy is a legend
Why have four people clicked thumbs down? What's not to like here?
Used to play this guy's video games!
Would love to see you guys bring Rodney Mullen for this type of Q&A!
Que homem lindo...😍😘
Invite Rodney Mullen sometime! He is super good at talking
Amazing to see Tony Hawk, but would love to see Rodney Mullen here at the Oxford Union.
Tony hawks one of best early PlayStation games ever 💯
Has he been on ox union before? I'm getting dejavu
The buzz of electric lamplight
Apocalypse was fucking fun man, i remember smashing that shit
Nobody is asking the hard-hitting questions. Can Tony Hawk still dunk?
Next guest Jake Phelps from Thrasher magazine. Welcome to Oxford Jake.
You need to invite the Gonz..
I grew up skating with tony inSan Diego he cut me of because of drugs I am beyond proud of my man
Someone should’ve asked for any anecdotes about Gumball 3000.
Wingardium Leviosa
!!
the interviewer is a robot
Freestyle skating may be a way to get more chicks into it. Skateboarding doesn't need to be harsh and bloody. Personally my favorite skater has always been mullen and I only skate for fun so I'd rather do Casper flips and old school shoves than fall down stairs. Check out this dude if you are interested czcams.com/video/exDyNq2YCQE/video.html
I don't exactly know the policies of Oxford University but isn't it a bit ironic getting someone associated with people trespassing schools to land skate Tricks? Wonder if they allowed him to skate down the halls like he did the white house. I get the impression that the point of these talks is to just here someone speak and talk about their life even if you have no interest in what they actualy do. I am a huge Tony Hawk and skate fan. Even have a signed photo from him. I remember my parents got me a PS1 for my birthday with a copy of Tony Hawks Pro skater 2. Back then I was only just getting into watching skating. At the time kids who didn't know about skating could pick up and play as the premise was to get high scores so knowing the tricks was not that important.
Tony Hawking?
skamtebord
The guy asking the questions has as much personality as one of the sculpted busts when Tony comes through the door. I don't want a stand up comedian doing the questions or the interviewer taking over but by christ please someone with a personality. The Nick Offerman one was terrible as Nick was very dry and making quips and jokes all the way through and it was flying over the interviewers head.
Tony sits with his legs and arms crossed and looks very uncomfortable.
And the interviewer is doing that really comfortable ankle on the knee thing. A lot of guys do this in talk show interviews. Very maaanly.
Dude looks like death....
that's not very nice
He's cheated death in the tens and tens already,
maybe he made a deal or something
He is also 51 he’s looking pretty good at his age and he’s still skating and how old are you bud ?
Everything after THPS 3 is gay. Also, Danny Way crushed him in a game of add-a-trick, way back in the day...madollie, anyone?
@kev I I’m gay but I don’t understand how video games can be. Could you elaborate please?
@@lustforlow-end6022 I'm old school, and we have a bad habit of calling anything "weak", "gay". My apologies
Who comes up with these questions? Jesus. Train wreck of an interviewer.
