Larry Linville came to our college to speak in the late eighties and I was in charge of videotaping his lecture. He talked about the various shows and movies he’d been in, and he mentioned “a horrible teen sex comedy that was no one saw.” I knew it from the video store at the front of the theater I worked at on the weekends, so when I was taking the mic off him, I said “I bet I can make you cringe: School Spirit!” His face dropped, and he said “Ugh, don’t tell me that you SAW it!” I said I did, because people were always renting it from the video store I worked at, and he said “At least I can count on residuals from it, I guess.” He also thanked me for not mentioning its name during his lecture!

As students, we rented Captain Lust and his Pirate Women 3 times a week for a year! We had song sheets and everything. One day, we went to rent it and it was gone, someone had stolen it and it wasnt us. That was 37 years ago and I still mourn the loss of that film, RIP Captain, RIP

This movie is 80s to the core. Yes the random party breaking out scene and yes bras weren't cool and losing your viginity was all that mattered. Those were the days.

Great job on the review, Cecil. As someone who was going to college when this film was made, I can say that students in fictional colleges were having a lot more fun than I was and they never seemed to have to go to class.

Yes parties just breaking out seemed to take place a lot in the 1980s. Much like in the early part of the 21st century in high school people broke out in spontaneous dance routines.

Another hidden 80s gem! It's not perfect, but stupid 80s fun! School Spirit is one of those movies were you can just turn your brain off and enjoy the film. Don't think about anything lol just watch it and laugh! You can laugh at the movie or with it, it doesn't matter. As long as you're laughing and having fun, the movie did it's job. I'm really soft when it comes to 80 films! That's just me. Worth a watch! Great video, man! Thanks for reviewing this one!

I remember dad had this movie on VHS. Was one they didn't let me watch right away. When I did finally see it when I got older, I thought best way to describe it is cheesy fun. Yeah, it is very cheesy, but a fun movie to watch too. Anyways, thank you for this, did enjoy it.

@@Steve_P_B If we go down that rabbit hole, then we have to revamp the entire point system. Is half a boob only worth 1/2? Side boob 1/3? That way lies madness and eye strain.

You can't get more 80's than Gleaming Spires. New Wave to the core. "Are You Ready For The Sex Girls" is one of the best music videos ever made. Not coincidentally, I've seen Grimshaw's pool in other sex comedies and Wynorski movies. His house looks familiar, too... I think it was used in "18 Again" - George Burns switcheroo comedy - how do I remember this stuff, but still forget birthdays?

I did some digging, Cecil. And these are not candy bars (I thought so as well), these are basically a bag of nuts that come in a variety of flavors, and shockingly enough, they're still around.
A few people in the comments told me they are toffee covered peanuts and that sounds delightful.
