    DUDE!!! You described the exact symptoms of the problem I was having with my 2011 Honda Insight. It was a very windy and rainy day today and my car alarm kept going off every 10 minutes or so for no apparent reason. My car would also not "beep" when I locked it, like you mentioned. I would have never thought it was due to my hood latch. However, I came across your video on Google and decided to try it. I removed the hood latch assembly and cleaned/oiled it. It was in pretty bad shape. I then slightly adjusted the switch sensor by bending it back to it's original position, like you suggested. Reinstalled it, and five hours later, no alarms. AWESOME!!!!!!! You're the man! Thanks so much bro!

    2002 Acura MDX Intermittent alarm. Disconnected the connector for that latch switch indicator. That didn’t fix it. So I pulled the latch and tweaked the switch tab- slightly un-curling it so that it activates the switch when the latch is closed. I’m certain that over time it becomes ever so slightly in contact to the point that cooler temperatures shrink it away- fooling the alarm that the hood is unlatched. Thank you George!

    If anyone wants to permanently disable their alarm, simply disconect the security wire to the hood latch and short its two connectors. The alarm will think the hood is always open and thus will never go off. No more alarms going off on my 21 year old Accord.

    1999-2004 Acura RL / 3.5RL and some other Honda Acura models:
    Dead car battery/replacing battery and horn honking? If alarm was set when car was parked for a long time and battery is dead, install battery and turn key in the driver's door lock to turn off honking horn. Car may need to have key fobs for alarm reprogrammed if they don't work readily. Key should start car and lock the doors manually though.

  • @va2_lee
    @va2_lee Před 4 lety +5

    My alarm malfunction happens only when it rains. The alarm would go off by itself. Because I have it programmed to where the doors would auto-lock itself after a certain speed, the car would keep auto-locking itself (even though it is locked already) whenever I get past the speed I have it set at after coming from a stop.

    On a 2000 accord the audible activation signal (honk) only sounds when pressing the key FOB lock button a second time... Push lock once and just look for the activation LED through your drivers window... Push it a second time within 5 seconds to annoy your neighbors... I like that option, cause living in an apartment I have a lot of neighbors close by.... I found this out by reading the owners manual (imagine that) after wondering why mine wasn't honking when locking...

A few years ago, my Acura dealer disconnected the sensor under the hood, telling me it would solve my problem. Well it didn't. After going on different Acura forums, I see a lot of people mentioning the door sensors could be the problem. Does anyone know how quickly the problem can be identified and what would be the cost to replace defective sensors. I'm really at my wit's end with this. I've tried resetting the alarm by manually locking the driver's door, something that was mentioned to me by the service guy at my Acura dealer. Is it possible this problem can manifest more frequently if the hood is not shut/latched tight?
    I’m sure this must generate some kind of error code. Does anybody know what error code it generates?

    Is there a fuse for this alarm? On my 2006 Honda odyssey the car alarm keeps going on and off even when I’m driving it.

      Like I said before. this isn't a long term fix. Have the dealer or your mechanic check the keyless access control unit. The one on my 2017 Ridgeline was faulty. Once they replaced it, I haven't had any issues or honking alarms and it's been perfect!

    Have a 2008 Odysseys with this problem. Honda diagnosed and said it was a bad sensor on the hood latch. They told me that if that sensor is deactivated, the rest of the anti-theft alarm system won't work either. i.e. if the car is locked and someone tries to break in, the horn won't go off anymore. Truth?

      Yes but my car is already old. No big deal. Just lock it it will not give an alarm that's all.

    My issue with my 2011 Acura TSX is that the alarm goes off for no reason sometimes when it rains. And there’s nothing that I can do to disarm it. Key fob won’t disarm it not even if I start the car and put in gear nothing will disarm it. After maybe 5 minutes or so it will shut off on its own temporarily only for the alarm to start up again a few minutes later. What’s weird is that even when I start the car and put in drive the alarm won’t shut off but once it does temporarily on its own certain things don’t work in car even while running like I can’t turn headlights off open trunk button won’t work windshield washer fluid motor don’t work. Think this is same issue? Thanks

    Do you know what could be causing my 05 TSX alarm to keep arming itself even with the hood & doors open & the key in the ignition?! it sets itself like 1 minute after I hit the unlock button!? Thank goodness it doesn't happen when the engines running but it's so annoying having to keep tapping the unlock button so the alarm doesn't go off! Also, I got my 05 TSX after my 03 Accord EX V6 was totalled (that I bought brand new) and seeing your key reminded me of how much I loved my Honda key. It makes no sense why an Acura (supposedly luxury version of Honda) that's 2 years newer still used a separate key fob?! And the pictures on it were already rubbed off when I bought the car while my nice compact Honda key still looked as good as the day I bought it! I swear the seats in my POS Acura aren't even real leather.

    Newer models don’t honk when locking the car just a beep is heard.

    Update. Tweaking the switch didn’t fix it. What fixed it was disconnecting the hood latch sensor and jumping the connector with a wire. I assume my problem is the hood latch now. That’s a $200. part. I’ll just leave it the way it is.
