    Etching is less important than ensuring that all the surfaces to be fused are completely clean of oil or grease. The solvent weld "adhesive" works by dissolving the surface of the items being bonded, allowing them to mix together. It's not acting as a traditional adhesive.

    Do you have a video on fitting the MCAlpine 22mm condensate pipe connector - Mechanical Boss Connector : Product Code - BOSSCONN-22mm? It's a fitting that needs an odd shape hole in the soil pipe. It says you can use the McAlpine fitting instructions as a template but what is the best way to cut the hole in plastic soil pipe? Do you need to use silicon sealer to prevent leakage? Any help would be really appreciated. Do I need any special tools?

    It etches and softens the surface prior to using the solvent cement.

    • @nobodydoesithalfasgoodasyou
      @nobodydoesithalfasgoodasyou Před 2 lety +1

      Seems likely you've already resolved your problem but here's my advice:
      First thing is to check the diameter of the pipe. Good chance it's 3½" which is not going to marry at all well with a boss for a standard 4" pipe
      Second thing is solvent weld is only for PVC and ABS.
      THIRD thing is I wouldn't recommend trying to glue a plastic fitting to a metal pipe because there will be differential thermal expansion and the joint will not be durable.
      If I were you I'd buy a McAlpine mechanical boss designed for a cast iron pipe. I've never actually used one but it looks sound in principle!
