17:49 most other artists don't write the kind of lyrics/music that BTS does and they don't credit their fans for their success in the way BTS does and they don't show their personalities and emotions like BTS etc. etc. Thats why BTS's fans are more like "friends" of BTS than fans worshipping idols for their looks etc. and thats why people from all over the world, of all ages, gender identities and sexual identities can connect with BTS music and the members and their personalities.
So it's really not just about them being amazing singers and dancers.

Hello, first off I would like to say that I enjoyed your reaction video to BTS. You seem like a kind person and I'm grateful that you approach BTS with an open mind.
As you will have seen by now, a lot of people in the comment section have requested that you react to the video called "This is BTS - Introduction to BTS, part 1" by the user "xCeleste" from 2020. The reason for that is because this specific video answers a lot of questions that most people that are new to BTS have - such as why they are so popular and have such a big fandom, why they're not considered your every-day boyband, the impact their music have had on the world, and also answers many other important questions about BTS. It is a very well put together, interesting and informative video that is worth a watch.
BTS discography is very broad and they make music in many different genres - there's something for everyone whether your preference is hip-hop, pop, jazz, RnB, latin, EDM, soul, etc. They do not stick to one specific genre.
They are a group that are not afraid to speak their minds and they always stand up against social injustice. BTS have made many controversial statements in their songs throughout the years. For example making references to May 18 1980, about Kwangju Uprising (Rebellion), which was a mass protest against the South Korean military government. Nearly a quarter of a million people participated in the rebellion and it is considered to have been a pivotal moment in the South Korean struggle for democracy. It is highly controversial to mention it, even in recent time. K-pop idols are not supposed to be political, but BTS refuse to live by the rules.
They've even jeopardized their whole career by making the song "Spring Day". It's a song that ARMY have crowned as "Queen" of BTS discography and on February 11, 2020, MelOn made an announcement on Twitter, stating that "Spring Day" is the only song to chart 3 years in a row on the Top 40 Yearly Chart and also charting for 156 weeks on the Weekly Chart. Meaning it has been charting every week since its release in 2017 - and for an update it is still going strong now in September.
In order to understand what's so remarkable about this song, you'll need to know the backstory. The song and Mv is a tribute to the victims of the MV Sewol ferry tragedy that occured on April 16, 2014, which killed 304 people - the majority of them were kids. Sewol's captain Lee Joon-seok was later found guilty of gross negligence and is now serving a 36 year sentence. What makes this song stand out from other tribute songs, is the fact that it was illegal at the time for BTS to make this.
In South Korea, the K-pop industry receieve huge amounts of government funding every year. Also, the government censor songs that are deemed too political, anti-government or pro-North Korean. Even songs that have been played for decades sometimes run afoul of the authorities. Also, they have the power to blacklist artists and groups from airplay on the radio, and they decide whether songs, music videos and concert-filmed-content will be allowed to be uploaded on the internet. They have put a stop to certain artists careers in the past and can still do so if they so choose.
The former president of South Korea, Park Geun-hye (who currently is serving time in prison after having been found guilty of 16 or the 18 charges she faced, formally sentenced to 24 years but is now serving 33 years for abuse of power, bribery and coercion), banned artists and groups from making music about the Sewol tragedy or showing support to the victims, after having received criticism for her handling of the disaster. BTS cleverly constructed their song "Spring Day" and the Mv into hidden messages and used a lot of different metaphors in order to criticize the Korean government and let the voices of the victims be heard, without the government's knowledge. Some people will say that it's only a theory that "Spring Day" is about the Sewol tragedy, because we will never know for certain until BTS themselves make a statement about it. If you watch the very detailed explanation video for the Mv, it's however obvious that the theory is true. BTS will of course never be able to confirm it, because it was a criminal act at the time.
In October of 2016, a cultural blacklist made by the government, that blocks any public funding or aid towards artists that voice any criticism of Park Geun- hye, was made known.
On January 21 2017, an exclusive report revealed that BTS and Big Hit had donated a total of 100 million won (approximately 85,000 USD) to "4/16 Sewol Families for Truth and a Safer Society". When asked about it, Big Hit confirmed: "It's something that we processed secretly as we believed that donations are meant to be done quietly. It was the artists' decision and personal matters, so we don't think it's something to leave comments on".
On April 10 2018, the blacklist was made public for the first time. It was dated May 2015, containing a 60-page-long list that included 9473 names of people that were excluded from state funding simply for voicing criticism of Park's handling of the Sewol ferry tragedy, showing support to the victims and families in any form, or for showing support for rival political parties. Thankfully, BTS were not on the list, but they very well could have been. This was during a time when they needed all the funding they could get, also they could have been blacklisted from airplay and uploading their Mvs on the internet. One K-pop group were on the list, called 24K, for having helped a candidate in the presidential election.
The group have faced a lot of discrimination throughout the years, even before they debuted on July 13, 2013 (they made their first official appearance on July 12, 2013 but July 13 is still considered their debut date). This discrimination mainly came from and still does to some point, in their home country South Korea. In recent years this discrimination have also come to include the US, where most radio stations refuse to give BTS the airplay that they've earned by having the nr.1 best selling physical album in the US. The Grammys have also created new categories for K-pop Idol groups to secure that only American singers and groups can be nominated for major awards - despite the fact that BTS have outsold all of them.
The discrimination that they've faced in South Korea has been very severe. I would advice you to watch the video called "BTS Hardships: Antis, plagarism, sajaegi , petitions - Struggles throughout the years" for further information. I can also add, which isn't talked about in the video, that BTS have gotten a lot of their songs banned by the Korean Government during the years as well.
BTS fans feel very protective of them because of the levels they go to in order to fight social injustice, all the false accusations they've received throughout the years that have been proven false, and for the huge amount of dedication they have for their fans. There are other musicians that have a good relationship with their fans, but BTS and their fans have a very unique bond. Since even before their debut, they have been having direct contact with their fans through social media, and they still do. They livestream with fans - answers their questions, gives updates on upcoming projects, gives advice to their fans that are struggling with different things, plays online games with fans, recommends music, movies, books and more to their fans, even asks advice from their fans as well, etc. The fans have gotten to know and love them as people and they have in a way become dear friends to them, a lot of people even consider them family.
BTS also created their own variety show, called "Run BTS" to reach out to their fans. The show is still going strong and have over a hundred episodes. The show lets fans get to know them as individuals with all their quirks and habits, whilst at the same time watching them do fun things such as going bungee jumping, having winter olympics between all the members, being chased by zombies and more. Watching the show, can also bring comfort to those fans that feel alone. For example say you're sitting alone by your desk having dinner, it can feel like you're amongst friends in a way - and since fans in fact have become so close to them, they really are. BTS have many different variety shows for their fans, even one called "Bon Voyage" where they go on vacation together with just the film-crew to different countries and explore. They have many documentaries and movies as well, where they give a very honest and raw look into their lives behind the scenes.

@@nathanlongwell Oh, no problem :) Glad I could be of help. I've looked through the comment section on both your reaction videos on BTS, and I don't believe anyone have mentioned this yet to you...
There's a storyline that follows through a lot of BTS Mvs, and it is known as part of "The BU" (Bangtan Universe), and has been going on for many years. I won't spoil anything about it, but in order to understand BTS Mvs, you'll need to watch them in the right order. The members have solo songs as well, and some of them are part of BU too. The Bangtan Universe does not limit itself to their Mvs, it also includes short films, short stories, books and a webtoon - there's also a drama planned to be released in the future. An upcoming game will soon be released as well. There's a video teaser already uploaded for it - now we're just waiting on the official trailer and release date.
You don't have to worry about making long reaction videos - ARMYs will literally watch 2-3-hour long reactions with extremely long analyses for both their lyrics and music videos. We're used to watch long explanation videos for their songs in order to understand cultural and historical references which are often part of their lyrics. Also, in order to understand the storyline that's part of Bangtan Universe, we watch very long and detailed videos to be able to put all the puzzle pieces together.
Because of BTS's complex lyrics that are often inspired by philosophers and psychology (their latest album revolves around Carl Jung's psychoanalysis), a lot of ARMYs spend much time reading literature of past thinkers.
Some very important information so that your videos don't get copyrighted - ALWAYS include Big Hit's logo in your videos if you're reacting to their Mvs, otherwise they will be taken down. I have seen some reactors who don't let the intro be played the whole way through before the actual music video starts - and they always have their reaction videos be taken down. So just remember that. Big Hit are usually fine otherwise with reactors, they even make YT reaction-compilations for the boys to watch, so the members have seen a lot of foreign reactors (the members watch reaction-videos on their own also - the member Suga especially likes to impersonate western-reactors' expressions when they see BTS's Mvs, haha). They don't however, allow reactions of "Run BTS" (their most famous variety show - they have many though) for the most part (there are exceptions to this though, some reactors have been able to keep their videos up - I don't know how and why though).
For some information on BTS fans, if you're interested:
BTS fandom's official name is A.R.M.Y. (often simply written as ARMY). The name is an acronym and stands for "Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth" and the official A.R.M.Y. day is on July 9. During concerts A.R.M.Y.s hold up BTS official light sticks which are called "Army Bombs" to show their support for BTS. These light sticks are linked to the venue's Bluetooth system, making epic seat synchronization to every performance possible.
If you're interested in what this would look like, there's a video called "BTS Official Light Stick Ver.3 (Army Bomb) - Stage Production", which gives a good overview on what the audience looks like at BTS's concerts. I would've posted the link in the comment if I could, but unfortunately for whatever reason, YT won't allow me to post links without removing my comment. I've never gotten a real response from them to why this is, since a lot of people can post links - it's just something I've learned to accept, I guess.
I would also like to add something to my previous post. It's mainly the rap-line, which are R.M., Suga and J-Hope, that compose and produce the songs for BTS (which also sets them apart from a lot of boybands, that usually don't really have a hand in production). However, all 4 vocalists have written and produced songs for BTS as well. R.M.'s studio is called "Rkive" (formerly called "MonStudio"), Suga's studio is "Genius Lab", J-Hope's studio is "Hope World" and Jungkook's studio is called "Golden Closet" (he also has "Golden Closet Film", mostly known as G.C.F. , and it's filmed, edited and directed by him). They do collaborate with other producers as well, but they always have a hand in everything they do.
All seven boys live together in a luxury apartment complex in Seoul in South Korea. They used to live in a very small apartment, sharing one bedroom, when they got together in 2010 and have lived together ever since - R.M. and Suga have lived together the longest. Most of the members do have their own apartments as well but rarely stay there. All seven members are very close and they truly consider each other family.
Outside of BTS they do individual projects as well - such as writing and producing for other artists, doing collabs with other people, and making their own mixtapes. The member Suga is known as Agust D when he does solo work as a rapper. "Agus" is for "Suga" backwards and the D and T stands for "D-Town", which was the name of the underground rap group he was part of back in the day before BTS. The "D" in "D-Town" stands for "Daegu", which is Suga's hometown.
They're extremely supportive of each other's individual successes, which i definitely think is one of their strengths as a group. Not to speak ill of other groups, but instances are not unheard of where individual member's solo projects have caused turbulence within groups due to jealousy. They also encourage each other to step out of comfort zones and try different things, discover new talents and in the process grow as artists and also as people. They don't put themselves into one box, them embrace every member's unique talents, past experiences and let all of these differences come together to create new innovative art forms.
Here's a list of all the members official positions in the group. The list is from an official statement from BTS's label Big Hit, and they make updates whenever positions in the group change (this is from the absolute latest update, from... I can't remember at this exact moment if it's 2018 or 2019... it's one of the two though, that I know for sure):
R.M. (real name: Kim Nam-joon) - The official leader of BTS, the main rapper.
Jin (real name: Kim Seok-jin) - Vocalist, the official visualist, eldest.
Suga (real name: Min Yoon-gi) - The lead rapper.
J-hope (real name: Jung Ho-seok) - Rapper, the dance leader, main dancer, sub-vocalist.
Jimin (real name: Park Jimin) - The lead vocalist, main dancer.
V (real name: Kim Tae-hyung) - Vocalist, lead dancer, visualist.
Jungkook (real name: Jeon Jeongguk) - The main vocalist, lead dancer, sub-rapper, face/center of the group, maknae.
("maknae" is pronounced as "mangnae" and it is a Korean term to refer to the youngest person in a group of people).
Also, in South Korea they put the surname before the first name - so their first names are Nam-joon, Seok-jin, Yoon-gi, Ho-seok, Jimin, Tae-hyung and Jeongguk. As you can see, 3 of the members' surnames is "Kim", but it just so happens to be the nr. 1 most common surname in South Korea (A study made in 2015 revealed that there are only 286 surnames currently used in South Korea). None of the members are related, although Jin and V are however both descendants of the Gwangsan Kim clan (not R.M. though, even though his surname is also "Kim"). Suga has royal connections as well for that matter, he's part of the Yeoheung Min clan.

BTS is literally free therapy. Once you stan them (or like ..become a fan), it's like getting a full package of a circus and bestfriends or smth like that ahahaah.
honestly, I have so much gratitude for them not only because they're giving their all for the struggling youth, but also because they constantly remind people, who feel lonely and lost, that they are loved and deserve happiness in such a cruel world. I pray that those people who feel like they're alone or feel like they're not loved realize is just bs because we here to give them a bigass hug 🥺
they went through soooo many hardships and yet it's crazy how they manage to stay healthy mentally and physically, and I think it's because they know what their purpose is in this world.
Like RM said, BTS's love and music transcend the walls of language, religion, race, nationality, and all barriers.
omg, i fucking wrote an essay uaahahhaha. i mean.. this is just 0.5% proof of my gratitude of BTS, i could literally write a book if i had to fully express it lmao.

Jin is the youngest one in his family, but when he joined BTS, he suddenly became the eldest. This made him feel more responsible for taking care of his brothers in the group. He had a difficult time to do that transition.
Being the youngest and joining BTS at the age of 15 years, Jungkook did not have enough exposure to outside world and was very reserved and shy. This probably made Jin give extra care and affection for JK. Jin really raises him by cooking for him, taking him and picking up from school etc.
There is a great documentary about Jin on YT - Kim Seokjin - Documentary 💜

Because BEYOND The Scene means BTS is not behind the scenes (doing things in the background). It means BTS have the foresight to see beyond what’s happening now or behind the scenes/in the background...as in BTS is the FUTURE.

BTS would never try to disconnect from a person's ability. WE SUPPORT THEM. Full stop. Bighit are rare as a company because they choose to let the members do as they like for solos: BTS members have also created their own singles and albums, and BTS isn't constrained by what the company wants, the company supports them. They have solos, they have their own studios for vocal or video production if they want. It's a band that does everything, and we love them wholeheartedly because of it.

I genuinely enjoyed this reaction because it reminded me of how it was for me finding out all of these things. Thank you for being so open minded when it comes to getting to know them; they truly are amazing artists with an incredibly diverse discography as well as loveable personalities. I think the biggest reason as to why people are so drawn to them aside from their inspiring and thought-provoking lyrics and music, is because of their personalities. They are genuine, humble and incredibly goofy guys that are not afraid to showcase affection for one another and for their fans. In this world where being openly affectionate with another person of the same gender, especially for males, is somewhat considered taboo because of toxic masculinity. Where I come from, people often call other people out as 'gay' whenever they show affection for one another. However, I find it incredibly heart warming to see these 7 boys genuinely care and love one another. Although at first I thought that it was weird, considering that this was a mindset embedded into me, I've come to love that part about them. It's refreshing and of course, allowed me to grow as a person. I honestly think that I have become a better person with a better and open mindset because of them.

You should react to “This is BTS” by xCeleste, she just updated the new video 2 weeks ago. You will definitely learn more about BTS and understand why their fans the Armys love them so much. It’s ok if you can’t pick out who and who in BTS seriously, you are new and learning about them. I do hope you will continue digging into them more and more and understand their music, message and also get to know them, know their personality as person. They are so real, talented, funny and humble with good heart.
“If you listen to music without prejudice, you’ll like BTS’ music” - by Suga of BTS.

It’s funny, even before I started reading reactions. My thought was, you’re going to say you reacted to the wrong one. X Celeste is really good explaining BTS, In reading the comments army has giving you suggestions which ones you should listen to. I sincerely hope you will so it help you to better understand BTS of who they are and why we support them like we do. I am going to go back and look at your reaction to dynamite what you said you previously reacted to. I’m going to go ahead and subscribe and hope to see more reactions from you on BTS one of my favorites is on, kinetic manifesto.

Even though a lot of people are giving you a hard time for reacting to the wrong one, this was still a nice introduction to each individual. The intro that people wanted you to react to gives a lot of good introductory info about the group as a whole, but not the individuals like this one did.

BTS are totally different to other groups.. I also watched other groups of artist and they are also amazing but the feeling that I can watch their mv and other videos but I couldn’t feel connected to them. But BTS was different, I just loved them and I feel so connected i felt so happy while watching them it’s the first time that I support an artist. Also their performances was really amazing and It was on top,. Others are look good just in MV but BTS was amazing not just in their MV also in live, concert, and award shows performances. Plus points they are very humble, funny, genuine people and very energetic when they perform on stage.

Hey, thanks so much for reacting to this :) It was so nice to watch you learn about the boys and your thoughts about the topics were really interesting. I am happy that you mentioned how vulnerable the place BTS and the company put themselves in is because that's such a huge topic that BTS is aware of and that they talk about as well. And I think you made a very important point that basically describes the whole deal with BTS and their fans perfectly: it's all about connection. I'm glad that's what you picked up cause so many others just say "the hype" and stuff, so yeah. I feel like you understood and that makes me happy. :)

Well what u don't understand is that k pop is very competitive. Hundreds of group either try to or actually debut every year. No she wasn't romanticizing anything. I am ARMY and 48 y.o. this is the first time in my life that any fan has had this kind of connection to a group...each member that Bang PD pick or chose is very important to the group...if one leaves or decides to go out on their own can be disastrous. But these guys have been there for each other and for ARMY.
Please don't don't call them the next Beatles...they may have some successes as the Beatles, but even Suga said they want to be known as BTS of the 21 century...this is just a generalized video about them...there is so much more about them you can check out..

    >Jimin (jm) lead vocalist, songwriter, main dancer, composer.
    >Taehyung (V) lead vocalist, songwriter, actor, dancer, composer.
    RAPLINE
    >RM rap is sometimes poetic/ philosophical, sometimes agreesively fast, sometimes about his growth as a person and a rapper which he show in his mono album. RM ~Real me
    >SUGA rap is like fire for haters and fast, and sometimes raw feelings when he puts his story AGUST D.
    >JHOPE rap is sometimes melodic and sometimes fast with different flow changes. JFLOW
    VOCAL LINE
JUNGKOOK main vocalist, his voice is in middle range with breathy tone. He easily switches to lower , middle , higher notes. Most of the background vocals, adlibs, harmonization with singers and rappers are done by him. His vocals are most stable while dancing to hardest choreography in whole kpop. His vocals are powerful.but when he uses his breathy vocals it's full of emotions.(-great vocal range) Heavenly golden voice.
JIMIN voice is in higher range and he can easily do highnotes and sometimes his voice is raspy
    Beautiful high-pitched voice
Taehyung voice is in lower range and deep. He can do highnotes. (Great vocal range) and his growls.Soulful voice.
JIN voice is in middle range, little bit nasally he can easily do highnotes, his voice is sweet like honey. Silver voice
    DANCE line 4 members
They can dance in all category but I wrote those which is their style
    >Jhope hip hop freestyle dance
    >Jimin contemporary dance style
