Today I want to share the little things I do to try to keep my home tidy and clean! (These things help me in the decluttering process and moving toward minimalism!)

Having my house cleaned is such a treat to me. I would rather do that than have a massage or nails done. It's my number one self care for me.
Such a great way of framing it! I totally agree.
Good point!
I understand the “clean before the cleaning lady”😂
Never feel ashamed for having a house cleaner!! I used to feel horrible when I couldn’t clean the house because of my extreme pain (I have severe scoliosis) and it was a constant shame cycle. Now I have a cleaner come once in a while to help me with the showers and other places that would put in bed for days!
Even if you don't have a medical condition, I don't think you should feel ashamed for employing a cleaner for whatever reason. It's your choice, really nothing to do with anyone else.
I used to have a cleaning business. Your house would have been a dream to clean, even at it's 'messiest'!
haha, thanks! :)
Quick Summary Here, cause I am starting minimalist journey and need this tips as well!
00:00 Introduction
00:35 Get Rid of Container
01:40 Start and end the day with 5 minutes of tidying
03:04 Use your automated washers regularly
05:48 Have people over regularly (actually super smart haha)
06:30 Hire professional cleaners
Your advice on containers has just helped me organize my bathroom in 10 minutes. Just wanted to let you know that your work is important.
My sister once told me that hiring a cleaning service was the best decision she ever made. 🤣. She and her husband both work F/T and have 3 active/athletic kids. Guess it helps to keep the chaos at bay.
I've just decided to go through tens of thousands of digital photos and delete ones I don't care about. I decided I'll go through all photos from this date for the past years, so on Dec 30, 2022- I'll go look at photos for 12/30/21 and 12/30/20 etc and delete those I don't want. This keeps it manageable and by the end of the year hopefully I'll only have photos I want!
Amazing tips and solutions! ❤ One of my favorite motivations to tidy or clean comes from Dana K White- she says to set a timer when you do a task you don’t like to do (emptying the dishwasher, doing laundry, etc.). These tasks often feel like they take a lot longer than they actually do, simply because we don’t enjoy doing them. You end up being surprised by how fast the tasks actually take when you time yourself- and this can be motivating next time you need to do it because you’ll remember and think “hey, the dishwasher only takes me 5 minutes to empty. I can fit that in right now while my pasta is boiling.” Takes away a lot of overwhelm / anxiety for me! 👍👍
Great points. I started to follow Diane in Denmark’s version of the Fly Lady system and pick one or two rooms a week to clean. In a month, I have cleaned the entire house and it never gets away from me. Part of the process is to declutter in the rooms when you are there so I have my surfaces cleaned off so cleaning is easier. Now I don’t need hours of cleaning, honestly it is ~15 mins and I am done! Good for you for asking for help. that is why it’s there!
I loved the point of the containers. It is true, less things makes the life easier! 😊
I so agree about cleaners! Having scheduled cleaners (even light cleaning) is a great motivator for me. I tidy like for company so that surfaces are clear for them to clean best and so that I get a clean clean house out of the deal. Best decision ever! I always wondered why people used cleaners but there’s still PLENTY for me to do as far as tidying/decluttering/deep cleaning that I can’t lay someone else to do (or not as easily) and they are so fast!
It's lovely to see your dog being featured in the video! ❤
Thanks and take care of yourself. Moderation is key with MS. I recently saw the 30 second rule and it is so easy. If you can do something in 30 secs, just do it; don't put anymore thought into it. Maybe this will help someone.
When my 3 kids were little, I often had a monthly house cleaner. It was the only way I could keep up!
so smart! And thanks for sharing!
We have people to help us too. We are retired and yes, we do clean and keep up the house but is nice to have help for the deep cleaning that is always needed… love it! ❤
Glad I'm not alone! That makes a lot of sense. :)
A hundred percent with you on the house cleaner if/when you can afford it. It takes away so much mental chatter and guilt at not being able to do it all too.
I’m having my flat clean by a professional on Monday. I’m stressed but happy that I decided to try.
I have health issues also and get a cleaner once a week. At first I was ashamed that I couldn't keep up by myself. However it's taken so much stress away that I no longer feel that way.
I agree with all these tips. When I was a young RN with a family working 12 hour shifts I finally got housecleaning service and oh my what a joy. Later I quit nursing to homeschool our then teens through high school and stopped but I’ve never forgotten the benefits.
I would spend my limited time & energy budget de cluttering & putting away so they could physically clean my space.
A lot of people confuse those 3 aspects of having a clean space. De cluttering and putting away aren’t “cleaning” but to clean effectively they need attention and those are things the cleaners can’t do.
I didn’t even think about it till I hired them but I immediately realized if they had to move my clutter or pile up some stuff to put away that still left me to deal with the stuff plus it ate up their time. I wanted them to clean, but only I knew where stuff lived or if it could be tossed or donated instead.
Yup, I do all these things! You rock! Same exact thoughts on cleaning!
Amazing! And Thank you!
i really appreciate the content of these videos regarding decluttering. The emotional aspects of it are addressed intentionally, not just how to declutter and by more stylish storage containers. The questions answered are why, what is the driving force and how to go about solving it. Please continue Eilan!!!
I used to clean homes in my 20's and 30's for extra money along with my full time job. I remember some of the clients doing some tidying before I would come and some would clean along side me to get big jobs done. Have a great day!
Greetings from Argentina. Very helpful ! 🏘🙂
Thank you for sharing these great tips. Wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2023 🌳
Regarding #1 about containers, my hubs and I got rid of our dresser (hello closet storage system!) and our microwave. Removing both of those items opened up the respective areas, and we cook so much better on the stove because of it. As a family of 2, we run our dishwasher every night. It makes me proud that we have dishes to wash, since it meant we didnt go out to eat.
Favor is get rid of your container like your tip happy new year ready for 2023
I love the idea of getting rid of the container. I'm pretty minimal, but I haven't really thought about seeing if I actually need all the containers I use. Also, I love the idea of having a house cleaner come on a regular basis, because it helps another small business owner and keeps my home cleaner than I would without help. We're almost done building our dream home, and while it isn't large, is a lot larger than the 600 square foot home we've been living in for the past 7 years, so having help cleaning a larger home as I adjust will be nice! I don't think we need to meet any prerequisites to justify having help. We can just have it because we want it. :)
Thanks for your ideas. I totally agree with you. I loved to have a housecleaning - unfortunatly they stoppen with covid. Our Apartment felt so tidy, they did the hard jobs and I did the rest. I think it is easier to clean if friends and family come to visit us. We also do a 10 min. Tidy up after dinner. Happy New year for you!!!
Thank you for the tips! Happy New Year to you and yours!
Same to you!!!
So ironic that just today, it crossed my mind to have company at least once a week to force me to keep things today! Excellent tips, I'm going to incorporate the 5 minutes into my routine... Thanks so much! I look forward to the next video..🙂
Thank you for such solid advice. Really think that the container and 5 minutes twice daily are so good. Totally workable in my life. As someone with social anxiety, I'd decline visitation as motivation but it certainly makes sense. A professional cleaner isn't really in the adverage budget but I'm happy you get that assistance.
Thank you such a motivating sharing ..great tips
I too started to get my house cleaned with my cancer diagnosis that turned into a life with lymphademia in my right arm. I need help with deep cleaning the bathroom, kitchen, and washing the front and back stairwells. My husband does the vacuuming and I can do the light tidying and dusting. It's the best thing for my mental and physical health.
Hi Elin. Happy New Year to you. I noticed your new make-up immediately - lovely and dewy. That's a great idea getting a house cleaner. You won't know yourself. Amanda x
Aw thank you, Amanda! :) Happy New Year to you too!
I follow the Organised Mum method where you do basic jobs + 30 minutes of cleaning of different room every day and it’s life changing. Laundry daily, dishwasher gos on as soon as it’s full, dishes don’t go into the sink they get rinsed and loaded straight away.❤
I have started her method and its SO good! I had the daily (teir 1) tasks underhand but I wasn't doing the more deep cleaning in any proper routine so I never knew what was due to be done. Now I feel productive doing my daily 30 minute task and nothing gets out of hand. The only thing I haven't got in the routine with is the deep clean zones
It's okay to have help some of the time in all aspects of your life. I have someone that cleans our rugs. I actually like doing housework but I not a fan of rugs, yard work or windows.
Wonderful insight!
I read that paying someone to do the things you dislike the most is the best way to buy happiness, much better than buying things. There’s no need to apologize for hiring help with cleaning after your diagnosis.
This is so true! Ive also heard the mantra of 'splurging'on the things that add the most value to your life. So for example when you are travelling, if you love experiences the most, spend the majority of your travel budget on tours and go budget with meals and accommodation. If you are a foodie, skip the expensive guided tours and eat at amazing restaurants instead... etc etc. I like the way of looking at this. It takes the guilt away too because what we value is different than others and that's ok!
Thank you so much for the great tips!!! I use merit makeup too and just love it! It’s so simple and always looks great. I’m patiently waiting for the serum to become back in stock.
I’ve been thinking of getting a cleaning service too. I went back to work full time and I have two very busy teenage girls… I’m finding I just can’t keep up. Also, do you typically leave when they come to clean.? Is it a faux pas to stay while they clean? I don’t know the proper thing here. What do you do?
Thank you so so much!
💛Stacy
Hey, thanks for all your videos, they are really helping to motivate me living a more simple lifestyle. I admire some of your gold jewellrey. I wondered if you could do a video on your jewellrey and where you buy it. Is it real gold? It looks good quality. Best wishes.
Hi Elin! Looooved this video! So helpful for starting the year of on a good, clutterfree manner. I just wondered Where your errings are from? The look fantasic on you! 💜
Thank you! I think they might actually just be from Target!
Living a minimalist lifestyle makes cleaning my home so much easier and less time consuming.
Happy New Year!
Happy new year to you too!
Another tip is to make sure that you have a place for things you own, to land. A place for everything, and everything in its place. Also, make sure that you can actually see the things you own, especially in the kitchen and for cleaning products. That prevents double and triple buying; because you're able to do a quick visual inventory; on shopping day.
Stumbling upon your channel. Is that a gurgle pot in the background? I have one too 😍
Well, that's a nice set of instructions for people who can afford to hire cleaners and throw parties.
Where did you get your rug and lamp from?! I've been looking all over for something like it and a rig that isnt really gray but not white!!!!!
You should never apologize for having a house cleaner. A LOT of people have health issues or are just plain exhausted.
Tip three was good perhaps in different times and with less awareness, but with the big increases in running costs in this changing world, it's not economical to run machines only part full. It's also not good for the environment to run them more often than needed. Even if you have part-load programmes, two or even three of those still use more power and water than one bigger load. You can still bring washing or dishes to the machine a bit at a time, and things will be tidy and organised hidden inside until they are full enough to run.
I run the dishwasher every night, even if it’s just a small amount of items. Don’t feel guilty about using the dishwasher for small loads. Using a dishwasher uses less than 4 gallons of water. Washing by hand uses, on average, 4 gallons per minute.
I used to be a professional cleaner and I’m surprised at how much stuff people have, you have to lift and dust as well as dust the stuff your lifting
Omg I could not handle all the stuff on your benches, I have eliminated so much recently. I have put my house on the market and I thought I had eliminated lots, when the photographer came to do the house photos, they eliminated more from the benches, my kettle, my key bowl, my room atomiser
Even in the bathroom, the toilet brush and everything on the sink
cupboards and drawers and storage bins stress me out.
Totally! Me too!
Top tip: have a box of stuff that you're not sure if you will need and if you haven't touched it in 2 weeks toss it or donate it
Why do you cram three things in the corner?

I realized I didn't need a coffee table. It really served no purpose.
Wow, you're more minimalist than I am! :)
@@ElinLesser Instead I have 3 small side tables by various seats for drinks. I removed my coffee table when my mom lived here with a walker. Then I saw no reason to put it back. Sometimes these things are just habit or tradition.
Great tips! I must admit that the flip flopping of your video between the original and mirrored image was distracting. I personally don't think that it is necessary to have a good video. Your composition is beautiful and your voice is soothing. You interact with your audience well. That's all you really need 🫶🏼👍
