My grandma used to, “have a place for everything and put everything in its place.” Getting rid of stuff can be hard, but well worth it. Less IS more. Organizing is easy, especially if you watched Sesame Steet. Remember, “these three things belong together, one of these doesn’t?” Putting things away is easy once you’ve done step 1 & 2. I think of the “Cat in the Hat” children’s book. The Cat in the Hat ALWAYS cleaned up after himself before he left.

Many, many years ago, my Dad was complaining about super sore glutes and a sore lower back but couldn't think of anything that he had done to make it happen. Then it occurred to him like a lightbulb moment! He had always kept his wallet in his back pocket but he had always had work that involved standing. Once he became a sales rep that required a significant amount of driving - he began sitting "lopsided" on his wallet for multiple hours every day. Eventually, he had to change where he was putting his wallet. He would have liked your broken butt story because he could have identified with you. LOL Heather xo

I’ve found that focusing on one room at a time provides greater success. Kitchen was #1 and it worked. I gave myself a month to declutter and spruce it up either a fresh coat of paint or shelf liner. Then on to the next room. Bedrooms take the most time and letting go of good clothes is hard. But we did it. Good Will and friends are now enjoying all our clutter and we are benefiting from less. Thanks for the inspiration ❤️

Therapist tried to dig deep into my childhood to understand why I felt the need to be so tidy. Fast forward four months - got rid of the therapist and did a serious declutter. I cannot explain to you how BIG of a change it has been to have decluttered! Well, this one was from my 3D printer, and is the only part they DON'T sell separately. I had to construct another one myself, ordering way more than I needed because I didn't know the exact dimensions or screw sizes...it was an ordeal. The 100% most important thing you can do after your big initial clean up, is to change your mindset on shopping. Ever since I stopped shopping for fun, the amount of mess in my home has dropped. Instead of feeling like I need to declutter every week, it's turned into every few months. And my declutter isn't a 3 day affair anymore, it's usually me getting rid of maybe 5 things. Not having a massive amount of things I don't really need coming into my home all the time has been so incredibly freeing

      Same here.
Shopping clutters your home and it destroys the planet.
      Just stop shopping.
And tell your friends and family what you want for your birthday and Christmas so they can buy things that you really need. Right now most homes are filled with stuff they have been given as presents. Every year their homes are filled with stuff they don't need and then they purge most of it. It's so sad and it is killing the planet. 😫

Instead of bringing home every item that’s on sale and pretty I’m treasure hunting for the perfect item that exactly meets my needs and not settling. I find myself buying way less this way. I love digging around for cool things, though I still go in with a general 'try to find' list. I got all of my desk organization things from a thrift store. It also lets me get the raw material for upcycling things, which lets me personalize things for myself and gifts for others with minimal cost and environmental impact. Now that I'm getting treatment and taking Adderall, it is A LOT easier to remember to do something like a daily 10 minute tidy. I think I'll set an alarm on my phone and talk it over with my husband to see if we can start implementing that! (I also found out that I'm totally a butterfly after taking the Clutterbug quiz. Now I tell my hubby that anything we use daily and want to have neatly put away must be in a container that is 1. easily accessible and, 2. SEE THROUGH. If I can't see it it may as well not even exist. :P Practicing that has really helped me from adding to the clutter by buying multiples of things.)

I got my son to clean his room using a timer and turning it into a game! If he doesn't like how or where you put it away because he has to search, maybe he will organize things the way HE wants them, then put his things away. Or...if he doesn't like to tidy up clothes etc and they end up on the floor, don't pick them up and wash them. Sooner or later he is bound to run outta socks or underwear or whatever...if it doesn't go in the bin for laundry it doesn't get washed. Got to get creative. Decide on a nice basket and dump his stuff in it and put it in the junk cabinet/catchall drawer. @@B.I.-EIO_macdonald9786 ..... I'm a " Shelf / partial Open Storage .... because of my " Organizer Type " and I have to tell you it's a lifesaver because I will forget how many hairsprays I have how many hair products I have I want things in bins that's either in a cabinet where the door is off so I can see everything or some kind of storage where I know where everything is is and it's readily accessible because I don't want everything shoved in a cabinet or a drawer ...I can't . I can't do it, lol.
I have a plate Rack in my kitchen for all my plates , serving platters, etc.. all those kind of things. .. it's a tall plate rack, it holds a lot of things there is even a shelf on the bottom of this thing for all the spices I use every single day. I want to have things out and accessible that's part of my organization you know personality and granted , I have a hidden storage too.... but I have to have most everything readily available and see it. Or I'll forget about it. Yep. Lol.

Decluttering has become a LOT easier for me since I started using the container method.
I just decluttered my linen closet (which was an overflowing, hot mess!). I took everything out, and only put in matching towel sets I needed, sheet sets I needed, etc and it looks wonderful and is so functional now! The PILES of leftover items will be donated or tossed (as appropriate). I’m doing this with my entire house!!!

The key is starting and starting small. Find one surface and clear it off. The number one problem people do is trying to have a garage sale. Donate or throw it out. If the item is valuable enough put it on the marketplace. Putting out my clothes the night before and pulling out the frozen meat for dinner the next day makes me pick up the bedroom at night and think organization for the next day. It makes the next morning go well. Lastly, not every drawer/space needs to have something in it. I'm in my fifties and just figured this out in the past ten years. One other thing, it's destructive to keep measuring yourself against others. Challenge yourself and enjoy the progress you have made.

Some suggestions: Buy only what is functional, If there are 3/4 ppl in the family buy only 3/4 plates, bowls, cups, glasses, etc. Every corner of home doesn't need furniture. Just a few suggestions, but most important everyone work as a team to maintain the house/home

When it comes to linens (like towels and bedsheets) they recommend 3 per person; one that's being used, one that's in the dirty laundry, and one for backup for those 'just in case' situations. I'd recommend this for dishes, utensils and glassware, too. I can't imagine only having a single cup, plate and fork to use per person every single day. How would that person eat or drink while their dish was in the dishwasher? Cleaning off the dinner plate and drying it off in order to serve dessert is doable, but sounds like an unnecessary hassle.

I'm going to start with the 5min bag of just get it out and then spend 10mins finding homes for stuff when my alarm goes off for my date with my home. If I want to fix it up I need to clean it up first. Even if I'm at a friend's house I'll make sure I go home for my date! Fingers crossed that I do this. I started watching you 4 years ago when I moved into the home we inherited from my grandparents. Not only was the house their home it was their business for 70+ years. As such they accumulated 70 years of stuff both personal and business. It wasn't as easy as just throwing things away as they hid money in books (they had LOADS of books) and in random containers 🤪🤯 not to mention the money that was sent to them in greeting cards (they 100s of cards) so I had to go through EVERYTHING. I'm down to just needing to go through the attic then I can start on really organizing. Your tips and tricks have helped me get this far. THANK YOU for all you do.

I put a big plastic bin RIGHT next
to my door that I put things to DONATE in.
I also now have a rule that whenever I
BUY something I DONATE TWO things.
This has helped me SO MUCH. Also
keeping your dvds, cds. etc. in the plastic binders & getting rid of all the boxes
helps a lot. I also put all LIKE items

not having to SEARCH for MISPLACED or LOST items this also reduces the CONFUSION too:)
