My kids are FINALLY old enough where I can have white walls. I have them help me wash the walls now and we all enjoy it as a family.

Great info
EXCELLENT!! Thank you!!😊
Great advice. My new home that we’re closing on at the end of this month is painted a horrible brown and want to paint it white. My worry is that because of how much greener is outside it will reflect on the inside. Do you recommend me trying a white with a warm undertone?
Hi Shannon, what a great explanation. SUBSCRIBED!
I have a few questions actually as I'm re-doing a few things in my bathroom including the walls and cabinets. It's a tricky bathroom and I'll explain why I'm so confused, lol. Here are my questions
1. My bathroom faces North, but there are no windows, However, there is a skylight. In this case, does the rule of "if the room faces North- choose warm white" apply? I find it's warm for most of the day and cool in the evening. (more like the West-East rule)
2. My vanity countertop is a speckled expresso color, and the floor tiles are gray with warm and cool tones. Should my paint for the cabinets be a warm white to match the countertop?
3. If I do the bathroom cabinets a warm white, do I have to do the walls a warm white, or can I do the walls a cool white? I'm asking this because with the warm and cool tones in the gray tile, every time I put a warm white swatch on the wall, it muddles/blends in with the gray tile that's on the floor, and the cool white seems to compliment and give more depth.
If it helps, I do not use fluorescent lighting, I usually use clear/ warm bulbs.
I'm hoping for some clarity. Thank you Shannon!
Just found your channel today. Subbed.
Yay! Welcome!
I have white cabinets that are not stark white. What colour would you go with so that they do not look dingy? My backsplash is very white subway tile.
I use only flat paint in all rooms, even bathrooms. Once, I was talked into buying satin paint. I hated the shiny walls. Make sure you test the sheen as well as colors to see what you like before making a costly mistake.
What color and sheen of white is best for ceilings?
Hi there, I need your help!
I have a northern facing room and I made the big mistake of painting it Graytint, the room became practically blue! Now we have to repaint. I’ve decided I want white. I’ve tried Chantilly Lace and Distant gray, they are both too creamy for me, and the White PM-2 from BM was the best one so far, but I feel like it’s very dull and grayish. Then there’s super white and that just is too stark and I know I’m going to be seeing blue and I don’t want to be seeing any blue. I’m going to the store tomorrow, and I’m thinking of getting PM-2 lightened, maybe try Oxford white, and I know they sell farrow and ball so I might get all white. But I need desperate help in finding a fresh white with no cool blue and very very very minimal cream undertones. Sorry for the lengthy text. Thanks.
I live in Brooklyn I want white walls I get a lot of sun from my windows, I have light brown wood boarder’s N light brown wood floors. What color white should I get. My kitchen is also white but I always get that grease stains from the stove on the walls is their a paint that I can get that will be easy to clean. ?
Hope U can help.
Thank you so much for all the information. I wanted to ask you a question. We just bought an old house and the rooms are painted in different colors. I would like to paint them all white, but we live in the eastern part of the US, get snow in the winter and many gloomy days. We have furniture with some color though, like a navy blue couch. The house has plenty of big windows and some beautiful wood paneling in the foyer. I am thinking either of a neutral or warm white. If you have any other tips, that would be great. Thanks!
maria laranginho definitely a neutral or warm white! Those gloomy days don’t need any extra coldness!
Thanks for the video this is very helpful. I have a question though. There is a big room facing north with a BIG window and the white walls are looking green! Should I get them painted with warm undertones to neutralized this effect. I was looking for a contemporary and clean look for this interior :( Any advice? Thank you!!!!
I would get several white samples and see what looks best!
Thank you. I am dreaming of buying a new home and if it all goes through I am considering painting all the walls white. I don't like undertones or gloss. I love Sherwin Williams Cashmere but the builder uses SW low voc? I'm not sure what that is but hope I can get a near matte finish that you can wash like Cashmere. But am I crazy to want an all white house and it not be warm?
The reason I ask is because I was into creme but did not realize how yellow they are until I had to get those old fashioned light bulbs that were also yellow. Then suddenly I hated creme. I did finally find some bulbs that weren't too yellow or too cold but I want to avoid this in the future. Do you think I will regret an all white walls house? I know I don't want anything that is non-neutral because I change my decorations often. Thank you for this great video.
T Buchanan I’m so sorry that I’m just seeing this now! ☹️ I don’t think an all White House is crazy - it’s your house! Test different whites in your space to see how they look for sure!
Great advice! I was searching and searching for a choice of white paint. It’s very hard because my living room only has the sliding patio doors not much light. And my dining room kitchen and bathroom and hallway no window either. What’s best white color would brighten up my apartment?
Glad it was helpful!
What do you think of Behr Simply white and Sleek white? Thx.
kristine Kerr they’re lovely! Whether they’ll work depends on your space and your lighting and your other colors though.
I am currently losing my mind trying to choose a white paint. The built in bookcases are Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze. They read as straight GREEN in that room. (Thankfully, I like it. It looks like a very dark sage and that's one of the few greens that I'm comfortable with.) Every white chip I bring in reads as either taupe, peach, or grey on that one wall. When I leave the room with the color chips the colors read as pure white, tan, or pinkish.
I've decided to go with the Wisdom of the Crowd and picked six samples - two of which are the whites that Sherwin Williams suggests to pair with Urbane Bronze and four are the most popular whites out of the Sherwin William colors. They go on tonight and I *MUST* make my final decision tomorrow morning.
I'm ready to rip my hair out. I tried to go with a neutral grey for my kitchen, but once it went on it is now looking purple/taupe and I despise it. I'm terrified to repeat this mistake in my study. smh I think the problem is that we live in the desert and our house is surrounded by red dirt. That red seems to be reflecting off of everything. (Which is why ALL of my white outbuildings look PINK or peach, depending on the time of day.)
Yes!!!! Paint will look so different in each room and depending on what’s outside the window too. I have to use VERY warm colors in our back rooms to read even a little warm because of the reflection of the pool.
I’m painting my bedroom and am currently choosing paint colours, do you think white wisp with chantilly white trim would look nice?
Ummm I’d have to check white wisp...I don’t know it off the top of my head
Chantily is very nice. My cabinets are that color
Great info; I think slides would have been nice. :)
Yes, I can see that!
What would be the Behr equivalent for Benjamin Moore's Simply White OC-117?
I’m sorry - I don’t know. You could have Home Depot color match though.
@@HomeMadeLovely Thank you!
Thank you for all your great information. I want to paint my house all white to get it ready to put it on the market. My question is my rooms livingroom and a bedroom have natural light east and south light. Will I need to prime my walls to cover the gray paint that is on the walls? The middle rooms are gray with with white trim. They get east and west natural sun light. Again I want to use the same color of white paint for walls and trim. My rooms are small and they all have hard wood floors. I want the wall white with a contrast white but not the bright white trim. What colors would you suggest. I like Benjamin Moore paint. All my walls are plaster my house is 100 years old. Thanks
Well first, congrats on getting your home ready to sell! :) Whether you need a primer or not depends on how dark the gray is and if you use a paint with a primer in it (a paint and primer in one). I personally use Sherwin Williams and I'm not in your space to see it. I would highly recommend getting swatches to see how they look in your rooms, observe them over a day or two and then choose the one that looks best.
What sheen do you recommend for a bedroom ceiling? I plan to use eggshell, cool white with blue undertones for the walls and a semi-gloss, classic/pure white (?) for the doors and trim. The windows are on both the North and East walls. Thank you for all the great information in the video!
In my experience, ceilings are usually in Flat.
I'm doing my home in Behr's Ultra Pure White. It's such a beautiful white! The only problem - and it is a REAL problem!!! - is that it takes several coats before you have nice, even coverage. Most of my public areas were painted in an off-white and it still took at least 3 coats to cover! And on walls where there was this ubiquitous red from 10 years ago - remember that red? - it takes 2 coats of Kilz and then 3-4 coats of the Behr white. Bear this in mind when planning on the $$, the number of gallons of paint you'll need, and the time you'll put in to paint the rooms. But, because I wanted a really bright white and I love the way this looks, I'm just taking my time and hauling all those extra gallons of paint home from Home Depot! It really is gorgeous, so it's worth the effort and cost.
Margaret D my advice to you, because you are putting too much work into painting when you use Behr paint. Find the equivalent color in Benjamin Moore, and then happily enjoy your newly and beautifully painted room sooner. I’ve been there.
The ultra white needs white added for cover
Why people always scare from yellow undertones white
Is creamy color a good natural color
I wanted a white with natural undertones please help ?
Renad MH yellow undertones can appear very yellow in certain lighting (like incandescent bulbs and south facing rooms) so a lot of people avoid them. My best advice is to bring home paint swatches and check them in the actual room with actual lighting used in the space.
I’m pretty sure no one will EVER paint their entire wall in semi gloss or gloss paint.
You’d be surprised! I’ve seen it many times!
