I explored the country as a budget traveler first and as a wealthy tourist renting a car and cruising up and down the highways. I visited one of the most expensive hotels in Asia, the largest stilts village in the world, Brunei beaches, the jungle, browsed its crazy markets and befriended the locals.
▶ WHERE TO STAY IN BRUNEI CITY
I went for a budget Higher Hotel in an area that is 15 mins walk away from central Bandar Seri Begawan. I chose this hotel based on reviews and the fact it was completed very recently. I found the Higher Hotel to be an awesome value for money and a good compromise location wise.

@@byteme9718 A corrupt dictator? Do you mind sharing the source of information you got? Thanks
@@hikaze9306 Really? I suggest you start by researching why he's not Brunei's rightful leader and how he maintains power by hiding behind the British arny. Then you can move on to how by the mid '90s he pissed away half of Brunei's fortune. This is a tiny country with a population of less than half a million and yet his unbounded vanity sees him live in the largest royal palace in the world.
@@byteme9718 Really? I'm a citizen here and I feel pretty fortunate as our Sultan has provided a lot for us. At least, I didn't feel the 'dictatorship'. That's an interesting history to know though. Thanks for sharing =)

I love Brunei, It’s such an amazing place and definitely has the most impressive mosques you’ll ever see. I got to meet Rowan Atkinson at the Empire Hotel. What I can’t understand about Brunei is the stray dog situation or “Simpang dogs”...for such a rich country they need to put some of that money into looking after them better.
I make you understand!! Why don't you think the other way round POSITIVE WAY!!! Rich country does not mean there is no poor, put some money teaching and euducate fellow human how good is CHARITY, LEARN, CARING, DISCIPLINE AND UNDERSTANDING TO UNFORTUNATE HUMAN AND ANIMALS. SO WHY NOT🤗🙏
Flying Turtle Dragon About the dog thing I don't really know but true, I take pity for the dogs but most people here can't touch the dogs to take care of them or keep them since........ they're dogs but most of the money the government lends is for the people and education but yeah, I agree about the dogs...
Lucky you to meet him
Ok fair enough but what do about the everyday people who aren’t rich? They see starving dogs covered in skin diseases, blind, walking around with broken legs and suffering yet no body even thinks twice about it. For me that was totally wrong.
Don’t worry a lot of NGOs in Brunei are trying their best in helping out the stray animals in Brunei and educate the public about the stray situation for example the care and action for strays (CAS)... and some more... You should reach out to any local NGOs to know more...
