3:18 In 1970 my father was around 12 years old, he lived in southern part of Bangladesh. The coastal line was only 20 miles away from my father's home.
Many times he tells us stories about that Bhola Cyclone. He is still haunted by that night. He had 6 brother and 2 sister and my grandparents. He lost all of them and became an orphan.
He was stuck in a coconut tree with snakes for 2 days.
After the cyclone, everything was just wiped out. Only dead bodies were everywhere. About 10-15 people were alive out of 5000 people of that village.

I'm from Odisha, India, and we face a cyclone every October. One of the worst cyclone we faced was 1999 odisha cyclone. I was 6 at that time but I remember every second of it, wind speed upto 300KMpH, it decimated complete town and villages. And the damage was around 2 billion USD (1999). It was monster of a cyclone. I lost many friends and relatives that day. My Condolences to all cyclone victims all over the world.

In 1970s,When the bhola cyclone hit Bangladesh,My grandmother was 19 years old.She used to live in a beautiful village with around 1400 people.They were the elite ones in the village and inherited the only bricks house.She used to go to a small college.She always told me that she lived like a princess in her family as she was the only daughter in their family.But luckily when the cyclone came,She was out of town for a study tour.That's why she made it.Her whole family and the whole village turn into a live burial.She never found their bodies.She told me that it was like the village were never existed.Later she migrated to Dhaka and had to take a job and become a maid.And here we are living in Dhaka now.

The Yahya Khan administration instead accused India of not allowing relief helicopters fly over their airspace in order to reach East Pakistan, which India denied. This bias culminated in the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman led Awami League to win all seats from East Pakistan in the 1970 general elections. Inspite of having secured majority in the Pakistani parliament, Yahya Khan refused to make Mujib PM. He had him imprisoned on the false charges of Agartala Conspiracy & made Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto (whose party had secured majority in West Pakistan) the PM. That was the final straw.

I had moved to Houston 3 months before Hurricane Harvey hit. It was a terrifying experience. I was stranded at home alone with my cat for 9 days before I could go anywhere.
Atleast you and your cat had each other around! But 9 days! I guess you rationed the food you had at home, right? I mean, even if you needed to, you couldn't go and buy food for your cat who must have been so confused as well.

Basically what Florence did....
5:36 it’s important to note when Sandy did reach its maximum size, it’s winds had slowed down to Cat 1 strength but it had a pressure of a Cat 4 when it hit New Jersey. Typically with any kind of cyclone (tropical, subtropical, or extratropical) keeping the pressure the same but increasing its wind field weakens the Pressure Gradient Force and the winds slow down. But still a devastating storm. Plus Sandy was more of a subtropical storm by the time it hit NJ so it was getting lots of Baroclinic enhancement.

Aside by The Bhola Cyclone ,1991 Bangladesh Cyclone was among the deadliest and powerful tropical cyclones on record.Nearly 140000 people died in this category 5 cyclone.
As someone who lives in Florida right on the coast line I am not looking forward to anything more than a tropical storm. Hurricane are a pain in the ass.

A friend of ours which used to be in the military recently passed through the area. He said he didn't even see that much devastation in Iraq. He said it looks like a bomb was dropped on Lake Charles. I thought that was odd cuz the news reported on it about as much as they would a tropical storm.

I met my boyfriend during Hurricane Harvey! We are from Houston. His house flooded with 5 feet of water, and my mom worked with his mom. Me and her went to their work (where his family was staying because their home was destroyed) to donate some clothes/cooking supplies. I met him there! Hurricanes suck, but Harvey wasn't too bad. :) Haha, my house didn't flood, but during one of the days during the hurricane we had a tornado warning, a chemical plant explode, and Harvey happen. Fortunately, my house didn't flood, but not even a few miles away people had a lot of serious damage.

One important thing not mentioned is that the bigger and stronger a hurricane gets, it drops more and more rain over a larger area. When that happens it essentially cools it's own fuel source which is the warm sea water. That causes the storm to weaken, then strengthen, then weaken and that cycle will continue. So it is doubtful a storm can get much stronger than what we have seen already.

As someone who has experienced hurricane Harvey, it wasn't that bad, but it did make us basically have to rebuild half of our house. While my neighbor's house was unscathed, maybe that was just because it affected Dallas more than Houston.

I remember when hurricane George hit Puerto Rico in 1998, I learned from a teacher there were 5 categories for hurricanes, and Georges was Cat. 4. I remember I asked my teacher if we wouled ever see a Cat. 5 hurticane. He said it wasnt likely. 19 years later Puerto Rioc was hit by hurricane Maria, a category 5 hurricane.
I happen to be one of the very few people from Poland living in the area that Katrina effected LoL.

I live on the east coast of North Carolina, so I experience multiple hurricanes every year. BY FAR the worst one I've ever been through was Florence. It lasted for about 5 days with day 3 being the worst. Me and my family thought we were going to die on multiple occasions. I remember walking outside after it was gone, and it looked like Armageddon. There were rescue helicopters flying over my neighborhood, entire houses were gone like they never existed, and trees were piled up on roads for miles. It took 3 weeks to restore power. I also heard that multiple families drowned in their attics trying to escape the flood water.

I live in eastern Ohio and remember walking through Hurricane Sandy. It oven Halloween weekend, so we had dressed up for school. The wind wasn't that strong all the way out here, but boy was I soggy by time I got home from school.

Hurricane Irma was a messed up storm too. When it came in at Cat 5, the islands around the Caribbean took a bad hit. I felt so sorry for everyone.

Anthony Pirrone but it’s size and surge not wind, Sandy was a Cat 1 at landfall but was so large it pushed an incredible amount of water towards the coast and that’s what caused the damage! I was in the storm too!

In around 2015, I was on a vacation to Mexico. I was woken up one morning by my dad who said there was a category 3 hurricane coming my way. He tried to book tickets to anywhere in the us (where I live) but he couldn’t find anything. I went in the hotel shelter for about a day or so and then the storm passed. Soon, we learned the hurricane was called Hurricane Patricia. We got 4 free days at the hotel which normally would have costed thousands of dollars. Those 4 days were EPIC. I haven’t been back to the hotel since, but my family has been making plans to go after COVID.

Me and my family unfortunately live not too far from the Gulf Coast of Corpus Christi when Hurricane Harvey hit, it did alot of damage and it was pretty damn scary outside but the worst part was, we weren't even the people who got hit the hardest.
That unfortunate honor goes to Rockport, which was devastated so bad that their schools kids were refugees pretty much, they had to merge into other schools including mine and be separated from their friends, it was horrible.
The power being out for weeks did not help either, it was 85 and REALLY humid and not to mention the mosquitoes. We didn't have a generator so we had to wait it out.
