Heaven & Helvellyn // The Lake District

- Feeling podged after a Christmas of far too much food and drink I decided to hijack my friend's day off and lead us up Helvellyn. The original plan was to go via Striding Edge and then come back down Swirral Edge but it soon became obvious that this route would have been problematic due to the fact that Dina has never been along either edge and has no winter walking experience in the mountains. So we changed the route at the last minute when we set off from Glenridding.
Well, it turns out that it was a good move! Being able to spend sunset up on the Helvellyn ridge was an incredible experience and one we would have missed had we descended via one of the two classic eastern arêtes.
Dina had a smile on her face from the moment we left all the way back to the van. I think she had a good day in the mountains.

Just found your channel and am starting to enjoy your videos. Only ever been up Helvellyn once, back in Jan 1999 with my late pal. Similar conditions to this video, but clearer skies in the afternoon. My pal had crampons for walking Swirrel and Striding Edge, but all I had were snow springs, similar to chains that went under the boots, but I decided to give it a go, I made it OK and we had some fantastic views looking down across Red Tarn. The springs when I got back down fell to pieces, but they did the job. Look forward to watching more of your videos. Have subbed. ATB Dave.

Oh my goodness ...just found this site ! Brought back so many memories .... Used to take small groups of deprived inner city students .. ! I wanted them to experience the amazing beauty...getting in touch with nature . etc . What a blooming waste of time ... 100% were bored !! Some decided to decend after an hour ...then came rain and fog... Following every safety rules of the situation staying still Etc ( no mobile phones in those days) Just well planned route and mountain rescue team informed of it . Thank goodness for staff so well trained in out doors pursuits and we outnumbered them ! NEVER AGAIN

Great inspiration for some winter walks, although I'm not sure if I'm experienced enough to come down in the dark. I think you ahould be on tv, your presentation, personality and camera skills are so good.

Another cracking film - many thanks for posting! BTW did you know that the trig point isn’t the summit? It’s the rocky ground above the stone-cross shelter. What a great time to be on that ridge in that peachy light, just stunning! I've always aimed to be back at the car before nightfall because I think the safety issue is drummed into us all. Love this scenery! Plus she adds a new 'spin' to your vlogging. There is an air of happy cheerfulness, and she puts a spring in your steps. Plus, I find I am watching for her doing, or saying something odd, or silly, which she did do, so it proves she brings a positive 'adage,' and a change, (upgrade), to your already great videos!

Currently having to endure 35 degree heat in Gambia so it looks very refreshing up there!
Awesome trip…very envious now. My trips to the Lake District have mostly been met with wind rain and low cloud, I’ve yet to see the view from the top of old man of coniston!
