DR #44 - Pioneer SX 1980 Classic Audio Receiver Restoration - Chapter 2

In this video, I continue my restoration of the Pioneer SX-1980. I replace the bulk electrolytic capacitors, install an upgraded power supply board, power up the receiver, troubleshoot and re-work both amplifier boards, and perform some initial testing. A lot of work done, a lot more to go.

I saw a video of you, with the tek scope years ago. I got a sx 1250, so your videos came up on my feed. Great videos on the 1980. The the dual trace on the scope looks so steady, that’s almost a photo of the both traces.

Replacing the main reservoir capacitors was probably completely unnecessary. Those are computer grade caps with a lifespan of about a century. Odds are that they had NO problems of any kind and decades of good service remaining. Value, ESR, vent condition...probably all factors are good to go for decades to come. However it's obvious that most of the rest of the smaller electrolytics were quite due for replacement.
