This is really good tutorial but is there a faster way to place the sea lanterns?

instead of placing sea lanterns, in the water section you can alternate water and lava since lava is a light source

do you need the red stone stuff for it to work or can you just have a drop down than just do that

You need the redstone if you want it to work by only holding down two buttons, you can exclude the redstone and make it act just as a regular vertical farm going side to side.

No matter what you do, vertical farming is fairly low-effort so do whatever you'd like :D

also for anyone else watching DO NOT BUILD THE DIRT AT THE VERY EDGE OF THE ISLAND. i have to wait for the island upgrade now because my dirt is at the edge and i have no room for the redstone

Any idea how big it needs to be to make it an infinite farm?

1 full island layer at max island size, 2 at normal island size

With a bit of math (counting that a pumpking grows in ~30 minutes and you take 30s to travel a normal Island long layer) you would Need ~70 layers, how can 2 layers be enaught to make It infinite
