  • Enjoy this all Cantonese vlog, my way to keep a dying language alive in my generation. But making a Thai dish...kind of weird?? Not illegal though right? :)
This laab (larb) recipe is from my friend's family which has more herb to meat ratio compared to the traditional restaurant laab, hope you enjoy!

Hi Wah! I never comment on anyone's videos, but I just want to say that I've been really wanting to relearn my canto as it is my first language. But, after attending school I lost it all when I was younger. Watching your series really inspires and motivates me to learn and speak it again. Love this series so much. Hope you, Weylie, doggos, and bun buns are well x

Thanks for sharing, I'm sure you're not the only one. Most second generations outside of HK/China barely speak enough to order at a restaurant, so the fact that you want to get better is a major step! TVB drama/movies are great ways to keep up. Even Canto YT channels!!

As someone else mentioned, you're actually supposed to ground the toasted rice. Try doing the recipe with a piece of meat that you'll slice up yourself instead of ground meat! It tastes so much better! Anyway, if you like laab, definitely you'll like Lao food because laab is originally Lao. They have it in Thailand because the northeastern part of Thailand is actually of Lao ethnic. The French gave away that territory of Laos to Thailand back in the early 20th century. Anyway, for Lao recipes, check out Saeng's kitchen!

I don't why I slept through the first 5 minutes of the video, I think the Cantonese was so soothing it knocked me out 😂I am learning so much about the culture and the food in general. I honestly love seeing how different people from different cultures and backgrounds just do their own thing. I am straight up African and seeing this just sooths my heart. I love it.

You could take your roasted sticky rice you put in your laab and put it in your mortar and pestle and grind it to a powder before you put it in your laab, that way you get the flavors and it’s a nice texture and not a whole rice grain

I've been dying to learn how to cook this. It was so helpful to follow along even though I had to read the subs. One thing I really love is how the food not only looks good but is presented in such a way as to elevate the meal. That's one thing I've noticed from yours and Weylie's vlogs. Can I ask...would you mind sharing where the wire basket (where you put the fried fish) is from? As well as the tree stump serving platter you guys used for your thanksgiving hosted dinner? I just placed an order from crate and barrel after watching that vlog :D
