- These videos are from a September 11 1970 half hour television performance Graham and David did for the BBC.
It was right after CSNY had finished their famous...or infamous... four way street summer tour. with stories of epic melt downs and cosmic feedings between them all, the all star endeavor which had only began two years prior had all but imploded on itself.
Fortunately, all of the guys didn't abandon their relationships all together. Neil recruited Stephen, David, and Graham for backing vocals on After the Gold Rush and Harvest. Crosby invited, among other amazing musicians, Nash, and Young to sing and play on his consummate album If I Could Only Remember My Name.
(Interestingly, of all the musicians David invited to play on his album: Nash, Young, Jerry Garcia,Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart,Bill Kreutzmann, Jorma Kaukonen, Joni Mitchell, Grace Slick, David Freiberg, Paul Kantner, Jack Casady, Gregg Rolie, and Michael Shrieve...missing was Stephen Stills)
Of all the members of CSNY David and Graham's relationship seemed to be the one that stayed most friendly. In these videos you can really see how jovial and genuinely humorous they were with each other and with their audience. not to mention their majestic vocal blending. (the two part harmonies, which sound like five part, on Guinnevere and Song With no Words are particularly mind blowing)
If you dig this flavor of Crosby and Nash i would recommend finding a copy of their 10/10/1971 live recording Another Stoney Evening if you haven't already.
------------------------------------------------
Graham and David singing swimming around one another and joking a little about the origin of the song title a tree with no leaves.
"That's why i hang out with him; a lot of trips."
The second song is Nash's Teach Your Children.
------------------------------------------------
"[Following the break up] Crosby and Nash embarked on a successful acoustic tour accompanied only by their own guitars and piano, captured for the document Another Stoney Evening.
On tour, Nash and Crosby rediscovered the joy they had felt with CSN at first, minus the egotistic in-fighting that had made the last CSNY shows so difficult. That enthusiasm led to the studio for their first album as a duo, a mix of abstract introspection from Crosby and concise pop tunes from Nash prosaically entitled Graham Nash David Crosby, which peaked at #4 on the pop album chart." - Hudba
I have never understood why this (BBC in Concert) has never been released as a DVD in its own right. I love every second of it. Great songs pared down to two amazing voices, two acoustic guitars.
The bbc have some of the finest recordings of the 60s-70s era. Their sound engineers were really on it and the sound stands the test of time.
The sound, harmonies, performance is Frankly outstanding!!
"i called it a song with no words, he calls it a tree with no leaves, that shows you where HE'S at"
HAHA!
Rip, David Crosby. And thanks for the magic
RIP Crosby. Man I can’t believe we lost such a legend
@LeoMikey80
When I met David in '73 I told him how much I loved his solo album. He said "Oh...so you were the one who bought it" Made me laugh.
THIS is why Graham never completely gave up on David during Crosby's dark years. Such communication. Such beautiful harmonies.
One word why Nash never gave up on Crosby... a hell of a lot of talent.
He never gave up because without David he’s just another little folk singer. David is the star 🌟
@@oksam7667 Graham is more than just another folkie
It's crazy how Crosby kept his beautiful singing voice his whole life. This is a masterclass of harmony.
Anyone listening should realize this is the highest form of this type of art, complete seamless natural harmony
Never cut his hair. Take it easy, David. You'll never be forgotten...
He Almost Cut his hair?
Perfection of harmony. Saw them perform all acoustic just like this back in early 70's...miss this quality of music. So glad to find this for my late night nostalgic moods.
Crosby and Nash were incredibly in touch with other more than Stills or Young. They were able to harmonize so amazingly and their guitar playing matched incredibly. These two were meant to sing together. Now I think it's about time I get high and listen to these guys all night.
Something mystical in those harmonies for Song With No Words, beautiful stuff :)
This show is so perfectly amazing. Two men and two guitars. Simple beautiful music.
They spoke their own language and it was prefect. RIP David.
Crosby of Crystal, clear, angelic, soulful, long delay vocals AMAZING!!🗣️🎶🎸☮️🇺🇸✌️
I think that no one can harmonize better. Beautiful.
Crosby and Nash harmonizing, Absolutely stunning
Once in the lifetime duet. Pretty darn good Trio and Quartet with the others as well.
I could listen to him all day and night… genius of harmonics
It's so nice to escape today's madness by listening to Crosby and Nash singing harmonies in the 70's
Crosby was my favorite song writer. Such a distinct voice, and Nash really puts it together
Not only drooling over 2 of my favourite singers (man do they complement each other) but 2 D-45s as well..dear me!
They performed Teach Your Children very well...It looked like Crosby sings harmony through the verse, but Nash sings it in the chorus...Wild arrangement. It's amazing people can be this talented.
Back when these two could even stand to be in a room together. Magic
Not true! That’s the only who he could bear… and who was cool enough to bear him! He said in an interview
man, i wish musicians now a days could write their own music, play their own instruments, and sing their own songs.
You might want to move to Texas
this is when the melody tells the story and the artist lets go and observes. pure gold.
This is the best, most beautiful version of TYC I've ever heard. How the heck did they play it in perfect tune, timing, and harmony when Crosby was so blitzed? Boggles the mind.
Yes, you are so right (as well as Garfunkel)
Crosby's voice had the same thrilling
function when he was singing with the
Byrds, "glue holding them together'!
look at crosby's smile when Nash says yes to play ! : D
i love this song! they really are extremely talented musicians. :)
David Crosby is so fucking goofy I love it
Absolutely love it! I ate up anything they did musically like candy! Crosby's "Tamalpais High About 3" no lyrics but so good. Almost ehtereal!
crosby is freakishly talented, stills has said crosby never plays bad, never has an off night never makes a mistake when he plays.always in the zone
I was there, multi-coloured patchwork shirt, front row. Unfortunately I had a bad toothache at the time, but I don't think it shows too much. Great gig.
I'm jealous! That's you at 4:23?
Was that Ray Thomas of the Moody Blues in the crowd ?
i was born in 1950, and did enjoy all of them guys, still do, no need for acid, pot is good enough.....brings back so many memories...life was good...
My son and I did a cover of "Teach you children" on his YT channel a few years ago. Last years'summer vacation, we spent a week busking our songs and covers on the streets of Roermond (Southern Netherlands), and we did a splendid version of our close harmonies in 'Teach your chidren' again.....makes this dad proud we gave the song to the next generation.
Beautiful, simply beautiful.
this is just bliss
Timeless brilliance from both of these incredible song writers and musicians. What a gift to us all. Thank you, Graham. RIP, David. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🎶🎶❤️❤️
thx forever Crosby - Nash ... you guys are the best !!!
man the harmony and melody is amazing..they are so in tune with each other...awesome
I just ADORE those harmonies
they are miracles
this is a masterpiece
One is a musical genius with an angel voice the other just another folk song singer… guess who
are you kidding ?? nash is part of this magic happening just as much as david is ..and my bet is you dont write or sing yourself . ( talking through your ass doesnt count ) graham is also a very warm and sincere person who took the low spotlight to the three others that were more outspoken . they were all wt the top of their game and the game itself
Thanks for posting this much improved version - been watching/listening to the original for years. This is much better. And yes - the Crosby album, "If I could only remember my name", which I have in my collection, is a who's who of that period providing back-up and other instrumental contributions. I picked it up in a discontinued section some time in the mid 1970's!
this is a very beautiful song I remember when this came out I was loving Stephen a lot back then and missed him not being on on this show.
those guitars are two of the most beautiful pieces of machinery i have ever laid eyes on....
so great, just let the sound carry you away,i love it
Fantastic and incredible. Thanks.
Wonderful to hear a couple of tunes from "If I Could Only Remember..." I'm baffled by how well Crosby performs here considering how he's obviously on enough drugs to put down a horse!
this is a great, epic, down-to-earth performance. i love it
I have no words......
Thank you
david crosby says the word "down" in the song with no words if you listen closely
クロスビーとナッシュの見場らしい歌声にただ聴きほれるばかりです。
am glad i found this
I Love David's Jacket! And I won't leave out that I love the green collar button up too
just so good
Amazing!

Maravilhoso!
incredibili.........spegnete la luce........e aprite i cuuuooori.....
i have loved song with no words for almost 40 ears wow---used to make out with my cute hippy/soccer playing boyfriend to that album and song--- song with no words sounds as good every time it spins 'round on my ipod-- i still adore it-- and oh the memories it stokes.
I agree.
Stills was the man who was always in the middle of it with all of them. Even though he was not all to blame. But his ego was the most fiery.
Crosby and Nash always bonded.
Crosby was the consummate hippie.
HE JUST POPPED THE PLECTRUM INTO HIS MOUTH! HAHAHAHAHAHA
There it is.... song with no words...... ;)
Classic !
I have to sing the third part of the harmony with this when they sing teach your children. I sound really good with them :)
Just like Mendelssohn. Song with no words.
Just two guys sitting around playing for the L O V E of it.
great harmonies on teach your children, and they each kept their parts from the CSNY arrangement (probably in case they re-united in the near future). Really miss the middle part but, it's a great spotlight on these two great singers.
a lot of trips man...^^
I call it song with no words, HE calls it tree with no leaves. That shows you where HE'S at! xD
amen!
S U P E R !!!
nash isnt playing anything in some of these songs, but hes making it look like it
Song With No Words is really fucking tricky to play! david crosby is a really great guitarist, no one mentions that!
Krosby's so kool.
Tune into HDNet May 22nd 7:30pmET to watch Crosby-Nash: In Concert, Broadcast LIVE from the Palace Theatre in Stamford, Connecticut.

at 4:54
Shhhh!!!
@BoilingHumans Ohhhhhh yeah. Plenty of tabs man. That's how you see the leaves.
David didn't EVER play sober until MUCH later in life. He was just so used to it he seemed sober ;)
we are sadly gar away from this
